Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec in gist

gleevec

Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn I have been on Gleevec since Oct. of 2000. I was in one of the original clinical trials for it, and I am still on it to this day. I am doing very well with it, and you can ask me any questions you might have.
Avatar f tn html#s-34084-4 From that document, hyponatremia seems to occur in less than 1% of patients on Gleevec. It also might possibly be from the blood disorder itself. Are the doctors at the A&E or the GP's surgery saying it's not related? That would be odd. Here is a 2010 paper: https://www.nature.
Avatar f tn so i will know about this tonight when someone calls me about his appointment today, i believe he is starting a drug called Gleevec today also, i guess dr has some samples in his office but told him this drug cost 2,000 a month...he has no insurance.. well he lives in northern ca, and im out here in fl...
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn Myelosuppression with neutropenia (decrease in neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count) can be a side effect of treatment. Usually, discontinuation of drug intake is advised until the blood counts increase. You should have your white blood cell count repeated after 1-2 weeks and see if it already improves. You should report to your doctor if you experience any symptoms like fever.

Avatar f tn At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen, hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form, just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.

1004138 tn?1316251113 also keep in mind what Susan said: you want to be very careful never to take anything that could reduce the effectiveness of the regular therapy - for instance you don't take antioxidant containing substances when on certain types of standard chemo.
Avatar f tn Its a lot but the gist of it will be if I say one thing they do another like when other ppl try and raise your children like if I say she's going to this doctor oh no she not she going her she has a scar from my hard birth don't touch her there why she not hurt
Avatar f tn I'm a 42 female and had a GIST in my stomach that the surgeon removed along with a part of my stomach and also my gallbladder was removed almost 3 months ago. The GIST came back as non-cancerous. I just started experiencing moderate pain right under my right side under the last rib right where my gallbladder was. The pain comes and goes every 4 seconds and lasted for 4 hours. It started out earlier today with being sore around that area and then the pain started.
225036 tn?1294509400 I wish I could have seen that episode. Gleevec (discovered by Dr. Druker - a real cutie pie with lots of energy, works here in town) seems so promising. But like all medications, they take years to test it and test it before it's really out there. He's been working on this for years but I don't know how many. I do hope it works just as well on other forms of cancer.
Avatar f tn Since Friday Ai have noticed every time I eat no matter what it is I instantly start to feel pains in my stomach accompanied by nausea and this lasts for a good 3-4 hours and slowly starts to subside..Ai gist thought it could be a bug but being that's it's lasted almost 5 days now is quite unusual for a virus...Any other ladies have this happen?
Avatar m tn I am a 34 year old male. About 3 months ago I noticed a lump in my left armpit, it was only noticeable to the touch, not visible. At that time, it was round, about the size of a nickle, and hard, but did not hurt. I ignored it because my family had been sick, and I figured swollen lymph node. I also have dropped about 30 lbs without any significant effort in the last 6 months, not sure if this is related, but a data point. I saw my PCP about 2 weeks ago.
Avatar f tn Congrats
Avatar f tn Hello, I could really use some advice about a problem I have had for 3-4 years with episodes of nausea and vomiting, often followed by a terrible headache as well as other symptoms. Initially, I would be woken at random several hours into the night with sudden onset of vomiting undigested food. I would be violently ill with sweats, shaking, and ears ringing as if I was going to pass out. This would happen every 2-3 months or so. I also had some gnawing stomach pain.
6013893 tn?1378341898 Ive been recently diagnosed with crohns and all my work experience is outside in rough conditions or food service and call center all of which my dr has said are too high risk for my meds because my condition has been undiagnosed for 15-20years

754966 tn?1233876815 My father told me that my mother sees a gastrologist liver Dr, in ann arbor, mi. Everything I have read talks about a hepatologist. Are they the same thing?
Avatar m tn I should mention that I have CML but it has been in remission for the last two years and I am no longer taking Gleevec. I am scheduled to be looked at by a group that kills the nerve endings in the heart that causes AF but there is an 18 month waiting period. My question is how many times can I be cardioverted and what is the downside of having it so often?
Avatar m tn Hello. I've been having very bad pain in my upper back. The pain reaches from just beneath my left shoulder blade to the top of my shoulder, and I've also felt some pains in my left arm, although that could be unrelated. I've been experiencing this about four years, and sometimes it's in my right shoulder blade. It will hurts for a couple of weeks and then be gone. I've had an x-ray done about three years ago and I went to physical therapy.
