Gleevec for stomach cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec for stomach cancer

gleevec

Avatar n tn Hi, I don't really know the answer but if you are getting reduced white-blood-cell counts, then I'd especially want to avoid any food with possible bacteria. Maybe Mocha can say more. Also, since a few patients get heart damage, I'd look into possibly using melatonin and Co-Q10 (OTC supplements) to try and prevent that. I'm not a big fan of alternative treatments for cancer, but I think that a few things do have value.
Avatar f tn 00779/full The last thing anybody would want is to stop the Gleevec, which is a wonder drug of anti-cancer treatment. So we must think of "managing" the hyponatremia problem. I haven't found anything about long term use of Gleevec. But what springs to mind is that she might have started some other drug recently, which is turning mild hyponatremia to severe hyponatremia. Even ibuprofen. Has she?

Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar f tn Hi there. It is important to be empathic, and let your brother know that you are always there for him. However, you should not overdo this, since this might lower your brother's self esteem further and cause him to have self-pity. CML is a manageable disease given the appropriate medications. Not all CML's are candidate for Gleevec. Only those who tested positive for the philadelphia chromosome or the bcr-abl gene would be candidates to receive gleevec.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn Hi. Response to imatinib (gleevec) can be dramatic just like what you experienced. Myelosuppression with neutropenia (decrease in neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count) can be a side effect of treatment. Usually, discontinuation of drug intake is advised until the blood counts increase. You should have your white blood cell count repeated after 1-2 weeks and see if it already improves. You should report to your doctor if you experience any symptoms like fever.
Avatar n tn Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
225036 tn?1294509400 Taking Gerri's hand and praying for Becky. Praying for strength, for cancer to be reduced and abolished through a higher power with the help from Becky her family and friends and most importantly to find the right drug(s) and Oncologists to be on board. Thank you heavenly father for Becky and her caretakers. Thank you for each day and all the smiles and laughter we can get.
Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with cml in march of 2009 and was also taking 150mg of elavil at bedtime to control migraines for like 10 years. then this past dec. a heart test showed i had prolonged qt of the heart so i was stopped 'cold turkey' by a dr and its been down hill ever since. i have had the shakes, loss of appetite and constant nausea. i wake up evey morning shaky really bad.
Avatar f tn I also probably should have mentioned that we have a family history of stomach cancer and stomach ulcers, which is also what got me to thinking this. My diet, when I do manage to get it down, is good - no worries there. I do not smoke, and drink alcohol occasionally. My specialist told me about an endoscopy but he said he didn't think I needed one, so instead, told me to wait. Do you really think it's worthwhile going back?
Avatar m tn I am very disturbed that the discomfort is not going. I have made 4 trips to the doctor and he is not worried. Do I have stomach cancer ? what should I do now ?
Avatar n tn My father is infected by adenocercinoma (cancer) in his stomach(prepyleric area).this in moderate stage and well differentiated. I showed the report to several doctors. All of them advised me to do surgery. My father is suffering from digestive problem last four months and constipation for long time.He has no diabetic and heart is in good condition. We did diagnosis couple of weeks back and confirmed about the cancer.Should I let my father to go for surgery first or Chemotherapy than surgery?
60505 tn?1313946644 "I am a 46yo (white) female, I have been checking statistics for stomach cancer and I do see as a female and with my race the odds are very low. For the last 2 months I have been getting stomach "pain" more uncomfortable than pain, along with a feeling of "fullness" sometimes with a sense of nausea. No weight loss. I would say I have been getting indigestion and reflux for as long as I can remember.
Avatar f tn Six months is a too long time and you should have got evaluated by now. Stomach diseses, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, stomach cancer all can lead to nausea and loss of appetite. Do you also have yellowish discoloration of your skin, eyes and urine? That could be due to gall bladder disease or hepatitis. Eat small healthy meals. You need to consult a primary care physician. He will further refer you to a gastroenterologist.
Avatar n tn Yes, but even if you had all of the symptoms for stomach cancer, it is much more likely to be something else.
Avatar m tn I should mention that I have CML but it has been in remission for the last two years and I am no longer taking Gleevec. I am scheduled to be looked at by a group that kills the nerve endings in the heart that causes AF but there is an 18 month waiting period. My question is how many times can I be cardioverted and what is the downside of having it so often?
Avatar f tn There is no genetic basis for the CML therefore she was not put on Gleevec. She is on Hydrea to keep the wbc count down to a more normal level. I think the only thing that led to the CML diagnosis was the extremely high wbc with no sign of infection or other cancer. Mayo did the same blood tests as the hometown doctor, as well as the lab in Iowa City. I would like them to run other tests but havent a clue what to ask for.
Avatar m tn My father has a stomach cancer that can`t be removed by surgery, and that would be next to impossible to cure it using chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Well, that`s what his doctor told him. My question is: does anyone here knows "Hippocrate`s Institute"? Its in Florida and probably one of the best clinic in the world. A lot of extremely sick, half-dead cancerous patients have been succesfully cured there, so does anyone can tell me a bit more about this clinic?
Avatar n tn to my intestines since this started, but sometimes seems to be in/around stomach too. It comes and goes -- no link to eating -- and I sleep fine. Now for the last 2 weeks, I get bad cramps when I run. At first, they seemed closer to stomach, but now they're near the hips, on both sides. I run on an empty stomach and it's not side stitches. I've also been gassy & get gurgling in my lower abdomen.
