I had a Nissin back in 2004 for hiatal hernia and have taken 2 40mg Nexium a day since. I have a slight scarred esophagus and only occasional breakthrough at night.My ergo-temperpedic bed has been a blessing for my occasional breakthrough acid reflux at night.
I have joked with my Dr. that if there was a natural disaster in my area, I would grab my Nexium and my cat and flee.
That is how important this medication is to me.
So, there may be other issues that need to be evaluated. I suggest that you should test for Reverse T3, and Free T3 again so they are from the same blood draw. Also, don't take your thyroid med until after the blood draw, to make sure you don't get false high results. I also suggest that you test for Vitamin D, B12, ferritin, and morning serum cortisol.
The ratio of Free T3 to Reverse T3 is important. High Reverse T3 can negate the effect of your Free T3 level.
I was wondering if anyone has ever tried Nexium (for over acid production). I infrequently have stomach pain, pop a nexium, and its like a magic bullet. Not only cures the pain, but I have the best dreams and generally well being feeling. I was thinking that the stress of life leads to acid production and that the nexium fixes (tricks) the brain into thinking more positive thoughts or whatever, thereby stopping the cycle of stress and acid production. Anyway, it really works well for me.
I just do not know what to do about this anymore. I do not know what it could be caused from. If maybe I could get a diet for this type of thing so i knew what kinds of foods that would be best for his stomach and or a better diagnosis. Could this be IBS? We will be following up with a G.I. some time in the begining of next month but with most of the doctors we see they do not care to look further into this and just listen to his symptoms and give him whatever and send him on his way.
I have to use heat packs to help with the severe pain I get and I pass blood in my stool. I had none of this until I was put on Nexium for 4 years!!
And my tongue is discolored and dry I do believe nexium caused all my medical problems. Since I stopped the nexium my tongue does look a little better. Still dry and rough looking and discolored but looks better then it did. I called the FDA and they are sending me out a form called med allert to fill out.

You should make sure to always get tested for Free T3 and FreeT4 (not total T3 and total T4), along with TSH each time you go in for testing. Free T3 is the most important because it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. Scientific studies have shown FT3 to correlate best with hypo symptoms, while FT4 and TSH did not correlate.
When taking thyroid meds, TSH is even less reliable than during early diagnosis.
Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
Well, i tried experimenting by taking Prilosec for 2 weeks (instead of Nexium, which i had been taking successfully for about 5 years).
I found the Prilosec to be not as effective as Nexium. In the 2-week period, i took one pill each morning after waking up. I had acid-reflux symptoms (i.e. acid pain in my upper stomach area) about 3 or 4 times within the 2-week period.
Still haven't been able to get doctor to test for Free T3.....or even test for vitamin deficiencies yet.
My symptoms have been nervousness, anxiety, hair loss, muscle twitches, some tingling every now and then, shakiness, dry skin, heart palps. Exhausted after work but can't seem to relax. Pain in legs.
Dr. had thyroid checked becuz I nhad went into ER due to side effects from Nexium...... Made me feel even worse anxiety, etc.
He prescribed muscle relaxers (baclofen) to see if I was having muscle spasms in my chest and Nexium for heartburn, no improvement. And most recently the Ibuprofen 3 times a day for 3 weeks for costochondritis. As I've said in my previous post...last month was by far the worst. 7 attacks and the pain in between attacks was worse. Pain is also spreading up to right above my collar bones during attacks.
But you still believe heart burn or acid reflux could be the cause of the pain?
My Dr believed I had gastritis related to Naproxen. I was treated for 30 days with losec, no real improvement and then 30 days with Nexium and not much improvement. My symptoms has lessened, but not gone completely away. I have been under a fair amount of stress this year for various reasons and I'm also a big worrier at the best of times, so I believe that is contributing.
I was lucky enough to get into see a gastroenterologist yesterday. The next appointment was in October!
I am 40 years old and I am experiencing severe heckups and and I constantly awake choking on my saliva. I am currently taking Nexium once a day, so I don't suffer from heart burn at all, but I am not getting any sleep at night due to this choking sensation, it's like my throat is closing off. I have changed my diet and I do not eat past dinner time. I too have my bed elevated but I have to be in a sitting position to get any rest at all.
I have not had a gastric bypass but I feel like I have. I tried Nexium daily for months and it did very little to nothing. Zantac, Omeprazole, Tums, complete change in diet.. none of these have helped. The pain doesn't come and go it is all the time but worse after eating. It is also worse if I skip eating. My diet cannot get any more correct for acid issues and I don't know what else to do. I'm also now broke after paying for this $1100 procedure that turned up zilch.

(I'd already tried other meds similar to Nexium or Pepcid, and had side effects from those too.
my insurence does not pay for brand Nexium. Only brand Nexium works. The company who makes Nexium will ok brand if I have a rejection from my Ins. Co. I called my Ins. co and they said that the do not send papers out that they do not pay for brands. How can I resolved this problem?

s leaking/dripping and gushing urine. He was taking a medicine for two weeks previously for gerd called esomeprezole (nexium) which was causing him to be incredibly thirsty drinking huge amounts. We stopped themedicine and the thirst is better but incontinence remains. We've had multiple tests, urine, blood, diabetes, MRI, ultrasound all normal. The drs are baffled! I'm at this moment in hospital awaiting a urilogy Dr on monday .
