Fosamax with d

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax with d

fosamax

Avatar f tn I take Fosamax with D once a week. Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.
7469840 tn?1409845836 He started me on a regimen of weekly Estrogen patch, weekly Fosamax, and Citracal Plus D. It took a few years, but I am now back up to normal bone density. I would not trust just any old Family Practive doctor or PCP. You want someone who specializes in Osteoporosis and who will tailor the treatment to you. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar f tn in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
Avatar f tn I do want to caution your use of the Fosamax though. New studies have shown issues with femur bone fractures (brittle bone) and esophagal problems. There are other ways to strengthen bones naturally without taking biphosphonates. I'd get your vitamin D & calcium levels checked too since an underactive thryoid can cause problems with metabolism/regeneration of bone (so can too much thryoid hormone!) That is what makes Hashis difficult to deal with due to the hyper/hypo rollercoaster.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar f tn The doctor is currently looking into possible causes, she wants to talk with my gastroenterologist and so on. I will certainly ask about Fosamax next time I see her. I didn't (and can't) say that TX was entirely responsible. I think it was likely to have been a significant contributing factor. I had no idea about the bone density loss issue until now. I would have liked to have had it monitored/managed in association with treatment while I was undergoing it not find out afterwards.
Avatar m tn Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. In about 2008-2009, Fosamax became widely available in its generic form (alendronate sodium). Side effects of Fosamax may include the following: 1. Esophagus problems including irritation, inflammation, or ulcers 2.
Avatar n tn t deal specifically with osteoporosis but as far as I know, there is no jaw bone loss associated with fosamax usage. There is some concern about possible delayed healing or risk of infection after removing teeth with patients using fosamax though.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar f tn I don't know anything about 'bone-building' meds but I was diagnosed with a Vit D deficiency some years ago, and assume it was to do with the HCV. I was prescribed a monthly tablet. The more I look into Vitamin D, the less I would think of 'self-prescribing' this particular vitamin. It can be taken in many forms, and if incorrect, I think it can affect other areas, particularly around calcium absorboration, thyroid (and I would assume liver).
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn yes it is called dead jaw in many of the class action lawsuits. it usually occurs in people with cancer or with serious dental problems. the jawbone actually rots away and can become quite painful and disfiguring. your friends dental problems combined with the drug caused this problem. the good news is she found out before the situation became too extreme.
Avatar f tn I am on thyroid, but have it checked regularly, am a breast cancer survivor, take fosamax, and prescription Vit. D. Could any of that be associated with being unable to loose weight?
Avatar f tn No she is not taking anything else except Fosamax. I did see a couple of sites on the internet that said they did a clinical trial and 20/10,000 people reported hallucinations. One other website had that as a rare side effect too. I'm sure how reliable these studies are but I wanted to see if anyone here had experienced hallucinations. She is legally blind due to drug toxicity that she hasn't taken in years now for Lupus (hydroxychloroquine).
324691 tn?1302551842 my tsh is now .0009 My vit D is 24.2 and my calcium is 9.5 My doc thinks I have thinning bone, When I lower my dose of Armour 150 mg, I become diabetic with metabolic syndrome. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar f tn A plausible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together with bone protective agents such as fosamax, though the effect of pain lowering may not be immediate. Tamoxifen treatment may increase bone mineral density and has less skeletal complications compared to the aromatase inhibitors, but it has more vascular side effects such as venous thrombosis. I suggest you discuss all of these options with your doctors to come up with a tailor fit treatment plan.
Avatar n tn What did your prescribing doctor say about the side effects caused by the Fosamax and how to deal with it? I understand your feelings about how the facial pain affects your quality of life. Because it's something people can't see -- it's sometimes hard for our families/friends to understand. It took me a long while to get my husband to understand what I was dealing with, with symptomatic TN.
Avatar f tn m taking weekly generic Fosamax, daily 1200 calcium, daily 1400 D, and every other week 50,000 D. I hit menoapuse about 4 years ago. I have some pretty bad arthritis in my R hip, but my L is much more normal, though not totally normal. I walk briskly and climb stairs 5 days a week. > > 2-3 years ago I had taken the high dose D for 1 year, so my scores momentarily shot way up. Then last year my osteoporosis scores dropped 0.1 or 0.2, ending at: femoral neck -1.3, total hip -1.9, spine -1.
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
