fosamax

Avatar n tn There are reports that link people taking IV fosamx to osteonecrosis of the bone having oral and maxilofacial surgery. Treatment really depends upon degree of severity. Most of the time patients are advised hyperbaric chambers.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar f tn I had gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago. My PTH was 101 in June 09, and now in Aug 09 has elevated to 141. My calcium levels have been normal. (None done since June 09). My Vit D is also normal at 55 in June 09. I developed osteopenia in 2008, one year past GBS(rou-en-y). in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn No I am not, I am only on tapazole, don't have a problem with bones yet, I am going to have surgery on feb 6
Avatar f tn She had dental surgery about the time this started - a scrapping of the gums - but oral surgeon says its not related. Retired ENT says it is Pytalism.Current ENT has never heard of it. She takes multiple mental health-type drugs for depression and anxiety - which allow her to sleep. Her psychiatrist says drugs cannot be problem. Anyone have any idea that we haven't thought of? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar n tn I also have osteoporosis with the degenerative joint desease. I take fosamax 70 mg weekly. I have been on the fosamax for 2 1/2 years with no side effects. Two weeks ago I developed pneumonia and was given levaquin, prednasone, and an albuterol inhaler for use three to four times daily. I think I remember some warning from the doctor that gabapen may cause joint pain. Thank you for your e-mail.
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar n tn I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years. One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.

Avatar f tn DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's. My GP suggested I stop the Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished, which miraculously it has.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
