Alendronate and oral surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate and oral surgery

fosamax

Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
Avatar m tn Hi, I asked a question previously. I have a 3.5 x 2.5 cm supra-orbital bone tumor that is believed to be fribrous dysplasia. I began having an intractable pressure headache behind my forehead which became worse just over 3 years ago, and this is what lead to a brain scan. Since it's discovery in 2005, the tumor has remained completely unchanged. I have the monostotic disease.
Avatar f tn thankyou,i am with contact of my doctor ,he said there is no solution for damaged vertibras, but calcium and vitiman d and alendronate sodium/cholecaiciferol tablets will help spine and bones from further damages but what to do with prednisones i cant stop them because of asthma and taking of them will damage other bones isnt there any other solution instead of prednisones, i know there is nothing accept these because my doctor told me:(
Avatar m tn The last thing the periodontist said to us was if we had to choose between the periodontal and orthodontist was to get the teeth straightened and if there was problem we could then address that problem. The last thing the orthodontist said to us was we should have a strong foundation to start the straightening process. We are now so confused we do not know which way to proceed. Should the periodontal work be completed prior to the braces or what???????
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn s flare, severe nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss of 18 lbs in last 6 weeks, steatorrhea, pain in mid chest and right upper quadrant. Had CT scan 2 weeks ago which showed significant inflammation in terminal ileum and old pancreatitis with calcification. Gastroscopy last week showed oesphagitis.Biopsies taken. MRI scan Nov 2007 showed two strictures in small intestine. Gastro has advised following until I see him in clinic 23 July: Double my mtx injections to 25 mg weekly.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn I am currently 15 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I just had my wisdom tooth pulled out. I am a little paranoid and I know i should trust my doctor( i guess cause hes only a dentist and not my OBGYN doc) when he said it was perfectly normal and no harm to the fetus , since the infection i had would have more effect on the baby then getting the tooth pulled. But he gave me an xray before hand and also penicillen(sp?) and told me to schedule a sonogram in a week anyways just in case.
336365 tn?1213319598 My normal levels in the morning are between 79-83 and two hours after meals my normal readings are 89-95 Two weeks ago I had oral surgery and had four wisdom teeth taken out. The surgery went well, and my dentist says that I am healing very nicely and everything looks really good. Since the surgery my sugar levels have been elevated. Now in the morning my levels are 88-95 and two hours after meals its 95-120.
Avatar f tn Partial jaw disection and reconstrution with fibula free...things have only gotten worse for me...short version; I continue to have major swelling and pain on an hourly basis. And because my fibula is too thin, I live with possible fracturing. No infection at or around wounded area; however, in January, I had a low grade fever which let to a massive sore throat, dry heves....went to er, was told I had allergies, went to a dentist was told I had an abcess and cavities...
Avatar f tn I am 36 weeks today and had to have my wisdom teeth taken out everything went OK but I'm starving to death and I trued to eat ice cream as suggested and can't.
Avatar n tn He said that the problem was not excess fat in my cheeks but the alignment of my jaw and referred me to an oral surgeon. My concern is that an oral surgeon will notice the erosion of enamel on the back of my teeth (my four center, front teeth are all yellowed - I've seen pictures and it's nasty), know that I have an eating disorder, and then not just refuse to do the surgery but also tell the plastic surgeon.
Avatar n tn What sort of "invasive, extensive Oral Surgery" are you referring to? The more specific you are the better we can understand your question.
1480441 tn?1287706112 Is it safe for me to go under anethesia and have oral surgery with my heart condition? They will be pulling out 15 teeth at once. Any responses are greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn Long story short, I received oral from a female (I'm male). I had a test at 8 and 11 weeks (both anti body tests). I have read this forum quite a bit and see that you guys say 8 weeks is conclusive for anti body tests but I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled and just wanted to make sure that wouldn't have changed anything and that I can trust both 8 week and 11 week tests. I have read about people on imunosupresive drugs and chemo taking longer to test positive.
Avatar n tn Thank you. Interestingly enough, my gyno referred me to the pharmacist and the pharmacist couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know from the internet- so-- if you would be kind enough to offer your opinion - ..... if the mechanism of action is to decrease osteoclasts (thereby dead bone cells are not removed) - is this helpful to have denser bones made of dead bone tissue?
Avatar m tn I need to have my wisdom teeth removed and will be under deep anesthesia. I have HSV and take valacyclovir daily but would prefer not to have that known by the surgeon for personal reasons. I understand it is best to always tell them all medications, but is there any chance of an issue with the meds (or HSV) and surgery? Other than maybe a flare up? I'm mostly concerned about serious interactions/side effects.
222267 tn?1253302210 Yes there could be an effect and certainly an interaction with your current medications. Make sure the oral surgeon and all doctors involved are aware of your full prescription regimen and go through any potential interactions as well as voicing your concern of any of them worsening mania or depression.
Avatar f tn I have oral herpes. I need surgery on my wrist. Will having oral herpes pose complications with any surgery? This discussion is related to Herpes of the throat?.
Avatar n tn Prior to this incident I rarely brushed my teeth and but I have no oral problems . And I do not think I had any cuts in my mouth. I know I shouldn't be worried but, I need re assurance that I had no risk.
Avatar m tn The left one started bothering me a couple years back and after consulting with my dentist he gave me the number of 3 different oral surgeons. I went to see all three just for the heck of it. The first two were pretty non-nonchalant "you have a wisdon tooth lets get it out." The third fellow I went to was very thorough and really looked through everything and recommended that I "don't kick a sleeping dog.
Avatar n tn I would suggest you speak to the oral surgeon who is doing the surgery.
Avatar n tn No, there is a big difference in the answer when it comes receptive and giving. Receptive oral sex is not a risk. Someone that has had oral surgery or meth-mouth could "theoretically" get infected. Most people don't have oral surgery and give head the same day and most people don't have meth-mouth.
Avatar m tn Ok thanks! I have not had sex in 7 months and it was giving oral to a male, I had anal sex 16 months ago, I believe is was protected, I asked the guy to use a condom but can not confirm he did. Could a swollen lymph node apear now? I just have a single bump, its tender and it kind of behind my testicles, on my leg closer to my but cheek.
Avatar m tn I am 31 and am on my 3rd KCOT recurrence in the past 6 years and this will be my 3rd surgery. I strongly recommend getting an oral maxillofacial surgeon. I made the mistake of staying with an ENT and that has left me with another huge KCOT that has eroded more of my maxilla and jaw. Thankfully no visible deformity but they are very aggressive and have a high recurrence rate.
1958049 tn?1325094006 Diagnosed with pneumonia a few weeks ago, put on an antibiotic. Cleared the lungs, but the coughing and choking has been extreme. I get to the point where I can't breath in. I am on a nebulizer, 4 x's a day. Gerds and larynx spasm have been mentioned and meds have been given for this. That was on the a week ago. The coughing is not making me weeze as much now, but is still extreme and causing a great deal of pain in my ribs and chest.
