Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax once a month

fosamax

Avatar f tn I have cirroris and was prescribed Fosamax by my Doc's. I have also had a liver transplant. They now are prescribing a once a year Reclast infusion for my osteporois. Thats seems to be a lot less taxing on the liver. Big bonus for me was I didnt have to remember to take those pills everyday!!!! Good luck!
Avatar f tn ll agree that I should stop taking the Fosamax for a least a period of time to get it out of my system before having more blood work done.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar m tn My son has been taking a daily dose of Fosamax since suffering a C7 spinal cord injury three months ago. He is on Fosamax after developing Heterotopic Ossification in his right hip area. Last week he suffered a femur fracture in his right leg. I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar f tn About two months ago, it got so bad, I had to buy a suppository laxative... It helps a lot, but it still is a pain. I also get diarrhea a couple of days later, but it's not as painful or as bad as the constipation. Outside of these times, I usually can go every day or every two days. I eat foods with lots of fiber, changing my diet, and I can never predict when this will happen.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?
Avatar n tn I was lucky that I had a female rheumie many years ago who thought to order a bone density test that caught it early. Fosamax has brought my bone density back within normal limits, and I continue to take it to maintain. As for RA itself, I don't think Fosamax has any direct effect on the disease, though it does prevent bone degeneration that could lead to increased joint pain.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn I have the same problem, I stopped taking Tapazole since the headaches are excruciating and only eating rice/potatoes and glucose-rich food helps (I'd rather lay off the painkillers since I've been on them for about a month now). My headaches seem to be less intense now that I stopped my meds. I don't have any palpitations nor tremor since I stopped so it's not really worrisome. I instantly felt sad though the day I stopped Tapazone.
Avatar n tn HI I believe that fosamax is a PPI which after long term use can affect vitamin and mineral absorbtion from natural means as well as suppliments. Most PPI's help heal the lining of ur esophagus ....ur Dr or pharmacist should be able to help u with this question. In addition to taking meds, u do need to adjust ur lifestyle and diet.....please see the Health Pages here on MedHelp. U will find a list of foods to avoid and foods that r safe, plus lifestyle tips.
Avatar f tn m high risk so I get them once a month

Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Doesn't appear that you are a doctor. It IS a symptom of Fosamax. Please don't reply if you don't know what you are talking about.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn I'm a bit confused since the original post was well over a month ago. If you have already posted and want to make an addition just click on your first post and add it as a comment. The previous answer you refer to would be with the original post back in January I suppose. Bone pain is a side effect of the medications you mentioned but a bone spur is an entirely different matter and no doubt the cause of the pain. Regards ..
Avatar f tn in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn I had Osteopenia several years ago and applied an estrogen patch once a week, took Fosamax once a week, and took Citracal Plus D 5 tabs a day. After several years (13 years) of treatment my bone density gradually went from pathological fracture stage back up to normal bone density. It was well worth the treatment in order to avoid hip fractures and vertebral compression fractures. About 2008 I stopped the Estrogen but continued on the Fosamax and Citracal Plus D.
