Fosamax for men

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax for men

fosamax

Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
Avatar f tn Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn I took Fosamax for only 7 weeks but am having prolonged diarrhea and esophagus problems. Gas build up is hard to release. Burps are few and far between causing a build up of pressure in the esophagus. I, too, am looking for help and guidance. My doctor has sent me to a GI specialist, but the first appointment I could get is in July.
Avatar f tn I was dx with osteopenia a month before I started treatment for C and began taking fosamax weekly - the low dose 35 mg per week. Before tx for C my hip T score was -1.7. After treatment my T score was -1.3, so it did improve. The lumbar spine T score imporved during that time too. I continued to take the fosamax thoughout my tx and did not clear the virus, so would surmise the improvement was from the fosamax and not anything else.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn Hi Shelley, thanks for those links - most useful. I received my blood work results today, and although the Gamma G.T. was down (106, - had been 161 and 183 over this past month) it is still extremely high. Previously - for the past three years - it had always been within range - 22,19 and 20 - average range is up to 36. I phoned the endocrinologist, who thinks I may have had acute hepatitis, and she is also happy for me to stop taking the Fosamax.
Avatar m tn Anyone hear the All Things Considered piece on how Fosamax became a bestseller for bone density? A great story, and a cautionary tale of our current pharmaceutical industry and their voracious hunger to sell meds.
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.
Avatar f tn Many thanks for your response and advice. I have been on both drugs together - Arimidex for 4 yrs, Fosamax for 3 yrs. I stopped the Arimidex 4 wks ago but have continued with weekly Fosamax. The bone pain in my hip and foot has diminished considerably, although I still have shooting pains in both thumbs and 1st 2 fingers. I am a little confused as to your advice......when you say "a possible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together WITH bone protective agents...
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar m tn My mom is taking Fosamax [Alendronic Acid], she is taking it exactly as directed and is still getting terriible burning in her esophagus. She is really suffering. She says there are no alternative medications she can switch to. Are there any remedys she can take to help ease the burning in her esophagus? Supplements, Vitamins, anything like that? Any help anyone can give me would be greatle appreciated, as i Said, she is really suffering Thanks in Advance!
Avatar f tn I would search for any lawsuits against the manufacturer of Fosamax for injury like this resulting on facial bone loss and tooth loss. Seems to be me they should pay for any corrective dental or medical treatment and pay compensation for pain and suffering. I've read negative things about this drug and it's ironic that it is advertised as preventing bone loss, and yet it accelerates it.
Avatar f tn Primary still says no, so I will listen to him, for the time being. I see the GI Doctor again in March for a follow up for Gall bladder and Barrets. I was told he would recheck esophagus at this time. (Although, I'm not sure insurance will pay for another EGD under one year.) Time will tell. My first Amylase & Lipase numbers were very good. I will repeat the test again in six weeks.
Avatar f tn Last year I had my first mamogram, was called back for futher evaluation that resulted in a stereotactic biopsy. Results were benign - atypical ductual cells. I am not but 42; however had a complete hysterectomy at 21 and have been on hormone replacement. I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
7469840 tn?1409845836 So hopefully we have caught the osteoporosis in time, and only have to be on fosamax for a year or two. We will do another bone screening in a year. The fosamax is affecting my ear buzzing too, so really don't want to be on it longer than necessary.
Avatar n tn No I am not, I am only on tapazole, don't have a problem with bones yet, I am going to have surgery on feb 6
Avatar f tn I take FOSAMAX Dentist won’t pull my tooth? Why?
