Fosamax calcium

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax calcium

fosamax

Avatar f tn After gastric bypass, malabsorption is common and the PTH level will increase to help regulate calcium. Taking vitamin D and calcium can help with this. Depending on the serum calcium level, there is an outside chance this is a parathyroid benign tumor (ie if Ca is >10 it is more likely) but usually in these cases the Ca is in the 8.5-9.5 range) and taking extra oral calcium and vitamin D is the best bet.
7469840 tn?1409845836 So hopefully we have caught the osteoporosis in time, and only have to be on fosamax for a year or two. We will do another bone screening in a year. The fosamax is affecting my ear buzzing too, so really don't want to be on it longer than necessary.
Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar f tn Thanks Susan. It is interesting that 30 days was enough to bring about a BMD reduction. I wonder if some people are more susceptible than others. I am certainly going to try to reverse it. People have been telling me that it is very hard/impossible to reverse. I won't accept that until I have given it a good try. Good luck to you too. I hope your exercise/diet help. Did you get advice about that? Did anyone mention Fosamax to you? My doctor didn't.
Avatar n tn t prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again. Thank you in advance for any comment.
324691 tn?1302551842 my tsh is now .0009 My vit D is 24.2 and my calcium is 9.5 My doc thinks I have thinning bone, When I lower my dose of Armour 150 mg, I become diabetic with metabolic syndrome. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Other hip and spine are in the yellow zone for osteopenia. I am allergic to Bonita and Fosamax so for now trying exercise, calcium, vitamin D to combat it. My mom has it and I've been menopausal for 10 years now at the age of 43. I don't take magnesium. Should I be and what would be a good starting dose?
Avatar f tn I took Fosamax, calcium, magnesium and vitamin D - along with multivitamins - throughout treatment without any adverse effects.
Avatar n tn FosAMAX FOR YEARS last two years two unusual femer bone breaks CALCIUM + MAGNESIUM VITAMIN D FAITHFULLY....
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for # months but am worried about the side effects. Is there any calcium that works better than others? I have been on calcium and vitamin D supplements for years but went from osteopenia level to full-blown severe osteoporosis in a few years I would appreciate any advice since the medical field tells you nothing but to take medication and deal with the outcome!!
Avatar f tn t take estrogen due to having previous blood clots and I have 1000mg of calcium a day and vitamin D is at 60. That is very normal. My doctor is going to increase the vitamin D to 80, towards the higher end of the range. I can't take fosamax either because I took it before and it gave me bad muscle thigh pain. There was a period of about 8 years where I was sitting way too much due to back pain. So I am trying to start walking more.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn Actually after several staff meetings, it was decided not to operate, but that I should just take fosamax for osteoperosis, and do blood workup and 24 hour urine collection twice a year to make sure that the calcium in blood as well as PTH stay in normal range, and the creatinine, calcium, and phosporus in urine are normal. I also do an annual ultrasound of the neck, which shows that I have an adenoma of 0.3x1. So far the doctor says not to operate on parathyroid .
Avatar f tn It is possible that you could have increased bone pain with the addition of calcium plus Fosamax, because you could be feeling (what is known as) bone remodeling. This is the activity that is occurring as calcium is replaced on the bone. About suitable therapy; it depends of course on your gender. I'll assume you are female, since you mention Evista. If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, it is almost essential that you are taking Fosamax (alondronate).
10947 tn?1281404252 I am 61 and taking calcium and fosamax for osteoporosis so wonder if that is producing too much clacium?? Or am I just imagining this?
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
