1154462 tn?1327434379 I have bipolar disorder I and am considering talking to my psychiatrist about Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment. this is because I feel that the current combination of anticonvulsants and antipsychotics I'm on isn't working and honestly I'm tired of the rapid cycling. I have read about the success rate of this treatment and how it's the most effective treatment for manic depression. Would you recommend having this discussion? Currently I am on 300 mg Lamictal, 0.
1713494 tn?1327519682 After trying a variety of medicines and combinations of medicines my doctor has suggested ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). Has anyone undergone this procedure and if it worked well, how did you feel afterwords? Could you go back to school? Did you have side effects? Please respond if you have had it recently (like in the last 10 years). Alot of horror ECT stories stem from the 60s, 70s and probably 80s.

So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...

Avatar m tn It's my belief that depression sometimes is a defense mechanism that the brain uses to defend itself against anxiety. For instance I have had thoughts of death before while depressed but never a real thought of committing suicide except while experiencing severe anxiety. Are you in therapy? I think cognitive therapy will help and possibly some temporary drugs. I've been thinking of ECT myself.
Avatar f tn I would recommend therapy, if you're not already in therapy. Many people do well with CBT. You've most likely heard of this kind of therapy. Keeping your stress level dwon whenever possible will really help. Doing anything that makes you happy like a hobby is a good idea. So is any kind of exercise.
Avatar m tn i have seen many people have ect some it can help, some it hurts after so many the DR and nurses call them burn outs as you know electricity can have an effect some good some bad, some DR will not even consider giving them, before meds came out most people were given nothing but shock or cold water tratments very cruel indeed some DR beleive in them, i myself have seen what they can do to some people so i am against them, but if you are really depressed it is your decision, the reason being ca
Avatar n tn Objective: Lamotrigine and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) are both safe and effective treatments for bipolar depression. Concerns exist that anticonvulsants may interfere with seizure expression during ECT or may exacerbate cognitive side effects, potentially affecting clinical response. This report examines the clinical use of concurrent ECT and lamotrigine for acute bipolar depression and the transition to maintenance therapy.
Avatar m tn Fosamax has been linked in long-term users to the development of low-impact femoral fractures. In the event of a fracture fosamax may interfere with remodeling and healing. However, the decision to continue or quit would need to be taken by his treating doctor; keeping in view the initial condition for which it was advised and the risks Vs benefits. You may like to discus in detail with his treating doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn 10 it is more likely) but usually in these cases the Ca is in the 8.5-9.5 range) and taking extra oral calcium and vitamin D is the best bet. Fosamax may (although this is not definitively proven) increase the risk of atrial fibrillation but parathyroid disease does not.
248382 tn?1274938634 I have done all 3 therapies, Peg-Intron,Infergen,and Pegasys(102 weeks).I could clear for 5 or 6 mths. on therapy and then it would blast me again. The Hep C has brought along Neuropathy, Cryoglobulinema, and Vasculitis. I have taken 4 infusions of Rituxin,(which is the normal dosage to begin with)),hoping to control the cryo and they are now having me take 1 infusion treatment of Rituxin, every 3 mths. So possibly the Reclast is a maintainence therapy also?
Avatar m tn You need a psychiatrist evaluation for these symptoms with a change of medication if this is not helping. Behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and electroconvulsive therapy may also be needed in the course of treatment. Wishing you all the best.

4430245 tn?1354476034 ve tried many medications but none of them seemed to help me so my doctor suggested I get ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) to treat my depression. I have recieved quite a few treatments now but my question is: Is there anybody else who has recieved this treatment and did it work for you? How long does it take to work?
Avatar f tn I had 6 Electroconvulsive Therapy treatments eight months ago. They failed to work. Ever since I have had memory problems. I was told this would get better after six or seven months. I am really worried about this and embarassed. My children ask me if I remember certain events and I can't remember some of them at all. I also have bad balance. I have to hold on to stair railings and I trip alot. I should add that I quit snorting speed six months ago.
