fosamax

Avatar m tn Food and Drug Administration raised concerns about the potential for some serious side effects in women taking bone-building drugs called bisphosphonates, specifically Fosamax, Actonel and Reclast. The published findings are not new.
Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
Avatar n tn He does have a tiny sacral dimple, which is why they wanted the ultrasound. He can feel pain in his legs from pin pricks and the broken femurs, but has no movements in then whatsoever, not even a muscle twitch. His upper body is very strong and active. I've tried to lay everything out as simply as I could, does anyone out there have any ideas as to what could be affecting his legs? His doctors seem to be out of ideas.
592624 tn?1219167162 I am a mom to 4 wonderful girls ... (ages 10, 8, 21 months - and another is on the way (due date 10-22-08))... I'm NOT quite 35 - I'm 32... but thought my question would pertain here better than a younger crowd... I've had pre eclampsia with all 4 pregnancies... as well as horrible morning sickness... and gestational diabetes with them all too... I'm currently (as of Aug 17th) 30 1/2 weeks along with this pregnancy.. my gestational diabetes is worse this time..
Avatar m tn Fosamax has been linked in long-term users to the development of low-impact femoral fractures. In the event of a fracture fosamax may interfere with remodeling and healing. However, the decision to continue or quit would need to be taken by his treating doctor; keeping in view the initial condition for which it was advised and the risks Vs benefits. You may like to discus in detail with his treating doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn Does anyone else's baby have really uneven measurements?? I had a scan today at 32w6d and baby's head measured 35w2d and his femurs only measured 30w5d. Is it crazy for there to be such a big difference between these measurements??

Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.

Avatar f tn I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
Avatar m tn 'm 4'9 my husband is 5'7 I just had my 18 week ultrasound and my baby's femurs were measuring short. That was the only marker he had, is it possible he is just short and doesn't necessarily have DS? there were no other indicators that the doctor told me of (18 week 2 days the day of ultrasound) Cereb 1.90Cm BPD 3.81 Cm OFD 5.81 Cm HC 14.41 Cm NF 2.66 MM AC 12.81 CM Fl 1 - 2.29 Fl 2 - 2.
7469840 tn?1409845836 He started me on a regimen of weekly Estrogen patch, weekly Fosamax, and Citracal Plus D. It took a few years, but I am now back up to normal bone density. I would not trust just any old Family Practive doctor or PCP. You want someone who specializes in Osteoporosis and who will tailor the treatment to you. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...
Avatar n tn I suffer with dwarfism and over the years had my femurs broke surgically twice, and both accidently. In 1993 when i was 15, i had my left leg repositioned and pinned for the second time, I decided since they were not causing problems to leave them in. Over the last few days ive noticed some occasional pain when bearing weight on my left leg.
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn ve had two ultrasounds since and the tech is now saying my baby has short femurs and humerus bones. I know these are makers for ds and other complications. She is now in the 18th percentile for her gestational size/age. Has anyone had this told to them during ultrasounds? What was the outcome? My other two children were very big babies.
Avatar f tn DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's. My GP suggested I stop the Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished, which miraculously it has.
Avatar f tn He looked at me as if I was nuts when I told him I was even on the fosamax, and recommended I stop it altogether. Having said all that, I realize many many need the med, but I guess my suggestion would be to see an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor - he may have some suggestions for you, and would be able to see if any damage is done. Best of luck to you!
Avatar n tn What did your prescribing doctor say about the side effects caused by the Fosamax and how to deal with it? I understand your feelings about how the facial pain affects your quality of life. Because it's something people can't see -- it's sometimes hard for our families/friends to understand. It took me a long while to get my husband to understand what I was dealing with, with symptomatic TN.
