Common Questions and Answers about Forteo pth

forteo

Avatar n tn My experience with Forteo is that the calcium does not rise much and these are not common side effects - but it is possible. Also, would re-evaluate pre-Forteo PTH and calcium levels to make sure you did not have mild primary hyperpara before starting Forteo. If still in doubt, sometimes a break from the medication and a future re-challenge can help establish cause-effect.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar f tn For almost 2 years, I have been, and continue to be, treated for Fibro, Osteoarthritis, Senile Osteoporosis (daily injection of Forteo), high blood pressure and low/none vitamin D, and periods of low white cells. Was checked for the usual, RA, Lupus etc. Nothing showed up. Previous health-worked fulltime around 50 hours a week or more, constantly going and doing, did many family dinners, active runner, won divisional 5k first place and masters and weight trained. BMI is around 20.
Avatar f tn As for myself, I am a patient suffering from severe osteoporosis. My doctor, realizing I cannot afford Forteo ($950 per month!), has suggested I try to find how I can take the equivalent, generic version, which is Bonista. Please, if anyone can tell me how to get ahold of this medication, any address, emails of sellers, etc! I would be so grateful! This discussion is related to Bonista-side effects.
908504 tn?1269103899 He also wanted me to try the injections of Forteo but my Aunt had bone cancer in her hips so I am somewhat leary of that drug. Any info will be greatly appreciated as I am in really bad pain.
Avatar f tn Hi You probably know by now, but hypoparathyroidism (HP) is rare. It can occur due to low Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), inability to form active PTH and inability of kidneys to respond to PTH. Low PTH usually is a complication of damage to parathyroid gland following thyroid surgery or neck surgery or any damage to gland for any reason. Inability to form active PTH is either acquired or congenital.
Avatar f tn I was sent to the endocrinologist because of high PTH levels with normal calcium and low vit. D levels 19 PTH 121 calcium 10.1 My most recent labs are PTH 131 calcium 9.7 and vit. D 47 I am taking 50,000 units of vit. D once a week why is the PTH not dropping and should i be concerned?
Avatar f tn Primary hyperparathyroidism as both your calcium and PTH is on abnormally high. PTH needs to get reduced when calcium is high. Your calcium level is very high and in emergency situation so don't delay.
Avatar m tn NON PTH Hyper a b n o r m a l b u t PTH intact 32 = normal calcium 10.6 and prior 10.8 = HIGH protein 9.6 (high) (I do have kidney disease with a pretty consistent filtration rate and an autoimmune disease) anyone out there to help me shed some light on this?
Avatar n tn I have not seen anyone post a PTH level this low. I am confused because one site says low PTH and high calcium means the parathyroid is doing what it should when calcium is high, but also implies that this is not hyperparathyroidism. That makes sense - hyper means high and my PTH is low. So why is my calcium level so high? The only info I can find indicates that I have cancer but does not say what kind and where.
Avatar f tn I didn't know what forum to ask this question...but...Is it possible to have a PTH test when there is vitamin D deficiency?
Avatar n tn Calcium came back slightly elevated, it was 10.7 mg/dl (8.3 - 10.5) Doctor had me come in a week later to test calcium again along with PTH The results were: Calcium: 10.1 mg/dl (8.3 - 10.5) Intact PTH: 6 pg/ml (10-69) 2 years ago when I had routine blood work done, my calcium was within the normal range(don't remember the exact number, same lab), but 2-3 years before that, I remember my doctor telling me my calcium was slightly elevated(same lab).
Avatar f tn Hi-- When you say Medicare, I assume it is Medicare Part D, administered by an insurance company like Blue Cross, etc? If so, you might be in for sticker shock. I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more.
641850 tn?1274893485 Ok......I just got a call from my Family Practicioner yesterday.....He said my PTH Levels were high....Did not tell me how high, and wants me to go for a PTH scan. Did not tell me if my calcium levels were normal. I am going back to discuss this further with him in the morning. I am also going to go to an endo.... I have hypothyroidism as well, that is being treated with 50mcg synthroid. I have had a vitamin d deficiency for about a year, and also the hypothyroid about a year.
