Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?

Up to this point I had the Nurse practicioner give me the shot at the office every friday. I'm in the 6th week of vertex study and was required to go for bloodwork every week anyway so I figured let them do the shot. I don't like needles to much. well this was the first week I did not have to go to the study center so had to do the shot myself today.
As for myself, I am a patient suffering from severe osteoporosis. My doctor, realizing I cannot afford Forteo ($950 per month!), has suggested I try to find how I can take the equivalent, generic version, which is Bonista.
Please, if anyone can tell me how to get ahold of this medication, any address, emails of sellers, etc! I would be so grateful!

Hi l am having cataract surgery later this year, l saw a youtube video where a guy who had cataract surgery was given a needle either in or near his eye before surgery , l think it was either to numb the pain or to stop his eyes from moving during surgery, he said he had some long term problems from it. If you don't want any needles pre surgery as ananesthetic or keep your eyes still can you have the option of just having eye drops only? .
Hi-- When you say Medicare, I assume it is Medicare Part D, administered by an insurance company like Blue Cross, etc? If so, you might be in for sticker shock. I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more.
He now wants to schedule me for a fluoroscopic shoulder injection. With the continuing pain, I am having some serious reservations. Has anyone else out there had a similar experience?
I am being treated at a learning hospital and their SOP was to have a session w/ an educater to teach you how to do the injection.
Some doctors' want you to do the first shot in their office.
I am sure that if you are unsure of what you're doing they will set up a time for you to go in and do with a nurse.

So, tonight I went home and watch the video for the injection site for Repronex. Well, my DH missed it by a couple of inches each time. I am so upset right now. Could this be the reason why I'm not getting more and the little ones are staying little? My DH said it's fine I'm still getting into the muscle, but a couple of inches over. Do you think it's fine just as long it's in the muscle??
For almost 2 years, I have been, and continue to be, treated for Fibro, Osteoarthritis, Senile Osteoporosis (daily injection of Forteo), high blood pressure and low/none vitamin D, and periods of low white cells. Was checked for the usual, RA, Lupus etc. Nothing showed up. Previous health-worked fulltime around 50 hours a week or more, constantly going and doing, did many family dinners, active runner, won divisional 5k first place and masters and weight trained. BMI is around 20.
Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.

I have not watched it as I am the type that does not want to see that until after and maybe not even then...I have a sensitive stomach.....
