Common Questions and Answers about Forteo in canada

forteo

Avatar n tn Hello hillre, Forteo is a man-made form of a hormone called parathyroid that exists naturally in the body. Forteo increases bone density and increases bone strength to help prevent fractures. Forteo is used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have a high risk of bone fracture. Forteo can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or try to quit smoking altogether.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar f tn Previous data suggesting that bisphosphonates have antitumor properties have come from trials in women who already had breast cancer, which showed a reduction in breast cancer recurrence, as previously reported by Medscape Oncology." Best wishes...
Avatar f tn I did not have this problem in previous years. This has just started after about 1 year of being on Forteo and Chlorthalid. To me it almost seemed like the Forteo (perhaps it's base) increased my allergies and now combined with stress my stomach is super sensitive. If you have insight and thoughts on this I would love to hear. Thank you.
908504 tn?1269103899 He also wanted me to try the injections of Forteo but my Aunt had bone cancer in her hips so I am somewhat leary of that drug. Any info will be greatly appreciated as I am in really bad pain.
Avatar f tn Hi-- When you say Medicare, I assume it is Medicare Part D, administered by an insurance company like Blue Cross, etc? If so, you might be in for sticker shock. I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more.
Avatar f tn Also, when a treatment gets approved in the States, it takes some time for it to be approved in Canada as we are behind the U.S.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any names of docs in Canada who deal with AD. We were vacationing in Australia, both got bit by jellyfish. I had AD for 3 months and it went away. He still has it after 2 years. He was healthy, young 35 yr old with no health issues. It's crazy, I could make a movie out of our experience. Any help is appreciated.
Avatar n tn In February of this year I broke my ankle. It required ORIF with plate and screw. After 8 weeks the cast was removed revealing an almost black to purple foot and ankle. The Doc diagnosed it as RSD and sent me to see a neurologist. I received 4 nerve blocks, and the color was returning to normal, the swelling was decreasing. The pain remained significant, but I rode it. The Doc then sent me to Therapy.
Nicelady Hello, First line prevention of osteoporosis consists of adequate calcium and vitamin D in your diet.In premenopausal women it is 1000 mg and in post menopauasal women,it is 1500 mg/day.This is achieved by taking diet rich in calcium. Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures.
Avatar f tn   His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal.  He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began.  He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.  Pain  slowly disappeared over a 3 year period only to return May 2009.  He is now unable to walk much and is on medical leave from college. He has started Forteo injections hopefully to remove t he pain.
Avatar m tn I have developped a constant swelling in my left foot. In the summer, when I take a hot shower or just when I wake up, my foot becomes red and swollen. It has evolved to the point that both my feet and hands have this condition. My injured foot is worse. I live in a cold, winter climate and my feet turn purple as well. I have lost feeling in my left foot and it is becoming scary. Meds (to increase circulation) have aggravated the problem).
