Avatar f tn My  20 year son has severe chronic bone pain, osteoporosis and has had multiple fractures.  We have also had bone biopsy with showed a mineralization defect(focal osteomalacia) and high turn bone turnover but these do not lend themselves to a diagnosis.  His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal.  He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began.  He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.
Nicelady Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar f tn I had a BMD issue a couple of years ago (suffered 3 hip fractures over 2 years) and after seeing 7 different doctors my Primary Care seemed to put a ton of things together and believed I was not absorbing calcium and may estrogen levels were super low and virtually non existent. I was put on Ogestral and Forteo and knock on wood- no more injuries and a BMD increase of 22% in 1 yr. However, I started having what I thought was food allergies.
Avatar f tn I have worked with this site for many years assisting people to get the medicines that they need. You should check and see if you qualify for the Forteo assistance program: http://www.needymeds.org/drug_list.taf?_function=name&name=Forteo Good luck! I am a breast cancer patient in a drug study taking the osteoporosis drug, Zometa. There is some promising data that suggests osteoporosis drugs may help prevent breast cancer patients having recurrances of cancer as bone cancer.
Avatar f tn m wondering what is her out look for recovery and the best home treatment such as the safest exercises and should she use a donut coushion or what not to do .
908504 tn?1269103899 My new doctor thinks I might have osteomalasia. Does anyone else here have that? Could you tell me alittle about it?
Avatar f tn I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more. Depending upon your income, and your stage of cirrhosis, you may be able to get your meds totally pro bono, side stepping Part D completely.
Avatar n tn I have been reading information on penile fractures - is it likely that this is the cause? Will this heal on its own or is it necessary for him to seek medical attention? Should we abstain from sexual activities until it is healed? I would greatly appreciate any information/advice you can offer. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I literally could not walk for a week, and had to drag around a donut pad at work for 6 more weeks along with a pair of crutches. Once I got settled in a certain position, I was OK for a couple of hours, but changing positions was agony. I can't even imagine what a broken hip/ pelvis must feel like! This is one of those injuries you can't hurry along no matter how much you want to, or think you need to. It's just going to take time for your body to heal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 24, a former ballet dancer (stopped when I was 16) with a stress fracture in the second metatarsal of my right foot that has not healed after 3 years of treatment and a possible new stress fracture in my left foot from over compensating. Why is it that my feet aren't healing and keep fracturing? I don't do any strenuous exercising like running or jumping.
Avatar f tn from the xrays i could c dat there were 2 fractures in the distal phalanx. 1 was right beneath the fingernail n somewhere near my DIP. there was a bone fragment near the DIP n i was told that it was due to a nerve being damaged. my 2nd metacarpal was fractured n twisted. on 2/01/11 had my surgery.doctor put a hook near the DIP n wires for the metacarpal. hand was heavily bandaged in a pointing position.
Avatar f tn I know that it sounds like a stupid and uneducated question, but the reason that I was wondering and that I asked is because this past late winter/early spring when I went into my flare, my left leg got REALLY weak. I couldn't stand on that leg or lift a 1 pound ankle weight. When I came out of the flare, my gait returned to normal and my leg was stronger but still weak. I returned to a lot of my normal activity which included 2 dance classes which ended for the season in early June.
614689 tn?1225748884 I have heard that they can fill the fractured vertebrae, but is this treatment also an option for the old fractures? Kyphosis is very apparent in the imaging, and, as you can imagine, I do NOT want to resemble the hunchback of Notre Dame before I am 30! I appreciate any light you can shed on the subject. Thanks!
Avatar m tn The recommended daily allowance for magnesium is 400 milligrams for males 19 to 30 and 420 milligrams for males 31 and older. The RDA for women 19 to 30 is 310 milligrams and 320 for those 31 and older.
Avatar n tn Also if the penis is left untreated, are there things I need to look out for in the future, and by that I mean can a broken penis that is not treated lead to other problems? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Fractures are not a common thing to happen with vaginal births. If a women fractures her ribs it would more likely be caused a big increase in pressure or maybe she has some kind of bone problem. The only other kind of fractures that occur are pelvic or tailbone fractures & that is from the baby being large in size or the women is of small stature.
Avatar f tn It is probably worth a baseline screening with a DXA scan, along with a basic panel of labs evaluating for possible secondary causes of low bone density/recurrent stress fractures. If nothing else, this will provide reassurance. Please provide updated once available.
Avatar n tn I am searching out any possibilities for financial assistance for a patient with multiple nonunion compression fractures of mutliple thoracic vertebra the worst being T6. His care includes Fentanyl 100mcg/hr patches being changed every other day. His insurance has lapsed and the pain in unbearable. What financial assistance is out there for this patient? I need any and all leads as it is imperative that he get contunuance of his relief as his family has sacrificed everything.
Avatar m tn I had an accident about 6 months ago and got multiple fractures. One begins at the orbital rim around the lefort II line and ends behind the last upper tooth and the other is about 15 mm beside that on the rim. The bone between the fractures is sunken and has been misaligned and is partly behind the nasal bone. The orbital floor is also sunken and the eye is about 3 mm down and 2-3 mm enophthalmos. I have latent strabismus inward on the eye and occational double vision, more when tired.
