COPD Fev 45-50% , have been on Flovent,/Spiriva/ Proair 10 years and am sensitive to medications. I dont smoke.
Have had increasingly reactive airways for 3 years, had first Dxed exacerbation last fall triggered by woodsmoke. No congestion and did not take antibiotics. Pulmo said airways 'sounded just like asthma' but do not have that Dx. Airways felt raspy, swollen, inflamed. Have slowly recovered on a higher dose of Flovent.
The best and most affective inhalers are stimulants and will cause your heart to race. Anticholenergics like atrovent and Spireva have mild broncho dilating affects, but they are not nearly as good as albuterol or the long-acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). The best thing for you to do is to take controller meds on schedule as directed by your doctor limiting your need for the rescue inhaler.

Theophylline is another option either instead of, or in addition to one of the non-steroid preventatives. Accolate, Singulair, or Zyflo may help if there is an allergic component to your asthma. Atrovent is another option, but would probably need to be taken four times each day to work as a preventative.

Should I use my flovent with a new 5 day rx of pred for asthma? Flare up a result of the flu so dr orderedpred 20mg twice a day for 5 days.
They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?

Within days of stopping the flovent again the rash was back, even worse than the first time. I strongly suspect that the flovent (or I should say stopping the flovent) is the cause of the rash and that the use of the flovent supresses it. The pediatrician had not heard of this and subsequently referred us to a dermatologist. I know if will take several weeks to get an appointment with the dermatologist.
I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well.
Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
Does anyone get a racing heart from taking flovent, or has expienced dizzeness, short of breath and lots of headaches?
I am 36 and diagnosed with asthma in 1999. Since then, I have used Flovent 4 times daily and my weight increased rapidly; I have gone up 8 sizes and I exercise daily. Two or three years ago, I started experiencing edema in my feet and I soon developed an underactive thyroid. I experienced bipolar-like mood swings and the edema increased. I went to three different endos who were not very helpful.
It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlorpheniramine and loratadine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. Regards.
I am taking atrovent for asthma and i was wondering if i should be spitting out phlem after i take a treatment or does it just break the phlem up and i spit it out whenever?
I have had seasonal allergies along with dust, cat and dog allergies too since 30 years ago. I finally had 5 years of allegy shot ending aroung 2005, This year has been so bad with all the pollen I feel like I'm right back to day one. My eyes are itchy, my nose runs and my palate is so itchy. I take Atrovent for post nasal drip, aerius for the allergies and I'm also on Advair 250 discuss. Why is this happening after all these years? Will it go away or am I supposed to get shots again.
He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids. He directed me to take both atrovent and ventolin 2 times a day for a month but I don't really have a long term treatment plan. The doctor seemed a bit stumped as to what else to do. I am suffering from some symptoms almost all the time and regularly have fairly bad attacts. I am very glad to have the ventolin but I'm hoping to find long term treatment for the underlying problem.
I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my
moderate severe copd, I have just started
Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I
cutdown on the combivent ?
Also were any of the meds inhaled steriods (like flovent) and was he prescribed any other type of inhaler? Has he been exposed to anything different starting in January?

I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other.
