Flovent how to use

Common Questions and Answers about Flovent how to use

flovent

Avatar f tn Flovent starts to work with one dose but takes up to 2 weeks to get full benefit. You probably were given a prescription dose that is a little higher than if he was on it daily. The higher dose will allow the medication to work faster. Your doctor wants to balance the need for getting enough steriods into your son to help his lungs but not using steriods more than necessary. The best you can do is follow the instructions to the letter and start the steriods at the first sign of a cold.
Avatar f tn My 9 yr old gets Asthma usually if he's got a cold or through allergies. For example he is allergic to cats and dogs, and contact can give him a flare up. We were told by his Doc that if anyone gets sick to start treating him upon the first cough. They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this.
Avatar n tn A doctor MAY have prescribed you to take the ventolin before you take the flovent to ensure the flovent reached deep into the lungs but give them a call and double check. In that case - ventolin first to open the lungs and then flovent to reduce inflammation.
Avatar n tn Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
Avatar f tn Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this? I have not been advised supplemental oxygen as of yet.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old has been on flovent (twice daily) for about 8 months to control a chronic cough/wheezing. His allergist gave us the go-ahead to stop the flovent for the Spring/Summer. Within days of stopping the flovent he developed a rash (pimple like at first, then turning red and angry looking) all around his mouth with the odd pustule around his eyes.

Avatar n tn I was very wheezy in the a.m. and at night.....he increased my flovent to b.i.d. who am I supposed to believe????? Also, why not...
Avatar n tn You doctor added the FLovent because he/she did not feel that you were getting the control you needed from the previous treatment plan. I would consider the Flovent as an addition to you previous routine and not change anything. Take care and have a blessed New Year.
Avatar f tn Thank you again for your responses. Will see my endocrinologist soon to also clarify how long I can use oral steroids at least until my condition stabilizes.
Avatar m tn My asthma was so bad. I had to go to emergency room. I use to. Suffer from waking up in my sleep and not breathing. Coughing to catch a breathe. Scared me straight. Quit ciggs after 13 and have been puffing joints for years. It will help. Its a magic herb for a reason. I havnt took an inhaler for 5-10 years almost. Blue flovent. Had the orange and the purple disc. Bs!!!!!!!!!! Natural remedy will always work better. Peaaaaaccceeeee out!
Avatar f tn When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision. Regarding my symptoms, I am waiting to see my cardiologist on Thursday so he can tell me how my 30 day event monitor went.
1699550 tn?1320286617 i have astma it is allergy induced i take flovent and use a rescue inhaualer but my weezing just wont stop and i have a mucusey noisy cough what should i do what could it be
Avatar f tn If you use your Flovent with a spacer, that will help to reduce any side effects you may have. However, I'm really quite surprised that you aren't on a long acting bronchodilator along with your inhaled steroid, it is more effective then combining two steroid inhalers together. What sort of allergy symptoms are you having to your inhalers? Wheezing after taking it? Or developing hives?
1315759 tn?1274044788 instead of getting better, it was staying the same and making me feel out of control. how can i get my doctor to prescribe me a pulse ox for at home? i am on medicad and medicare and i am sure that if he prescribed it to me, that they would let me have one.
Avatar n tn My 13 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. The treatments of which has been the use of Flovent and an elemental diet (Elecare) have not been working. Her symptoms are immediate regurgetation or vomiting of EVERYTHING SHE EATS OR DRINKS. Water, vitamins, anything that goes in comes right back out. She has lost amlost 30 lbs but is somehow remaining steady for about a month now, thank God.
Avatar m tn ve noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
Avatar f tn Should I use my flovent with a new 5 day rx of pred for asthma? Flare up a result of the flu so dr orderedpred 20mg twice a day for 5 days.
Avatar f tn On the basis of those three answers, I would not be as worried as you probably are and continue to use the Flovent as you are doing and stay in close contact with the Pediatric Pulmonologist. It is likely, that your son will continue to have wheezing episodes with infections and possibly with exposure to certain allergens. If your son is allergic, you should know that cats are a major factor for allergic/asthmatic children. Hope this response helps.
Avatar m tn ve also developed a tendency to have bronchospasms, my pulmo dropped the dose of Flovent in response to that and it helped. Can you have mild Churg Strauss? He didn't do any bloodwork. My pulmo is not very inclined to provide a lot of information anyhow and I don't think he believes there is any connection between the meds and pain beyond 'Flovent can cause muscle pain".
Avatar f tn However, you may have a sensitivity to that particular medication. You should talk to your doctor about it, see if s/he can prescribe a different one for you.
Avatar f tn Last week I returned to my family doctor for another visit and I told her I thought the Flovent was doing this to me and she reluctantly agreed Flovent was causing problems for me. She told me to skip every other day and taper back the dosage but she also told me I could not stop taking it completely because of my asthma. I am really anxious to be free of Flovent once and for all and looking into alternative asthma medicine.
