Avatar f tn Hey y'all, I'm prone to getting acute and chronic sinusitis about 2-3 times a year. I'm never sure what really triggers it. Is it due to the tail end of a cold or due to allergies? Is it just an immune response? Any suggestions? I am always put on a Z-Pack and/or Prednisone to help me out, and it usually becomes better after a week or so ..
Avatar n tn As you are having sinusitis for a long time ,so these headaches are due to chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis is there when it is present for more than 30 days.It can be caused by repeated allergies also. In your case,as there is improvement in the symptoms on moving out from the area hence,it can be related to repeated allergies(like environmental).First of all,you have to find out to which allergen you are allergic.
Avatar n tn Moved to Chicago several years ago from Phoenix so the doctor suggested that I may be suffering from allergies as a result. Blood test confirmed grass allergy. Have been using Flonase (SP?) for about 1 month coupled with nasal rinsing system but still have the ringing and drainage. Should I be worried about another culprit besides allergies causing these awful symptoms?? In addition, is there any other over-the-counter meds that may be of use. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I developed a fever twice and pain from the bridge between my nose and right on top of the nose. Worried, I went to the doctor and he said I had sinusitis. Minor swelling in the nasal cavity and something in my throat indicated this. There was no mucous, blood or any other type of fluid coming out of my nose.I was prescribed BIAXIN for a week. I also developed tinnitus within the first week. I could feel minor pressure on my ears starting to develop before the ringing started.
Avatar n tn The first one is going into eyes (bellow eyes) and second into maxillary sinusitis. It is very painful. I had to find out the cause for my sinusitis with steady eyes and jaw pains. It was long time to come to atypical trigeminal neuralgia. Now I have to find out how to threat this neuralgia? If you want I can send you drawings of the two branches! I have terrible pressure from the top of the head into eyes holes and thought always there is only sinusitis.
Avatar n tn I have been having dizzy spells , cracking and popping in ears since Jan 25, 2009. I have seen family doctor and he put me on Anivert and Flonase, it doesn't seem to be helping. Anyone have any helpful hints?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with fungal sinusitis and underwent CT Sinus ENTRAK surgery 12/08. Afterward b/c 30 day fungal culture neg.,and pseudomonas found in left maxillary sinus, ENT changed diagnosis. treated w/Cipro, no other f/u for fungal. I told them 3 wks postop that green thick exudate had returned w/smell, but they declared me "cured". ID refused to do another culture b/c ENT said in notes that I looked great. I got 2nd opinion from another ENT week ago.
Avatar m tn There is no specific therapy for chronic sinusitis and it is treated the same way as acute sinusitis with anti-inflammatory/ allergic medications/ symptomatically with nasal decongestants and avoiding any potential allergens. Antibiotics may be prescribed if an infection is suspected. Endoscopic sinus surgery is the only option that can be considered for chronic sinusitis that fails to respond to conservative therapy.
Avatar f tn Hi All, I have been a long time sufferer of sinus infections, a few years ago I was dx with Chronic Sinusitis. Every time I get a cold it turns into a sinus infection that take multiple rounds of antibiotics to clear up along with nasal sprays and nasal rinses. This year has been particularly difficult with my nasal secretions being extremely thick and bloody.
Avatar n tn I generally take Flonase. About a week ago the allergies and sinuses really got a hold of me and i had horrible sinus pressure, felt really spacey, had ear fullness and pain, felt a little off but no ear infection. I got put on a antibiotic. I then just started the Flonase back up. One day i felt short of breath off and on. I also took a Zyrtec. I almost went to the hospital because i felt bad and felt like my allergies/ sinuses were causing it. I also have anxiety.
Avatar m tn My nose is usually stuffy and Ill get a brief shooting pain (moderate) sometimes where my right occipital lymp node is swollen depending on how i turn my head. Has anyone ever had chronic sinusitis or swollen lymp node pain? I've seen a doc, he did a head ct scan, chest X-ray, blood work all was normal... can anyone relate or give some knowledge? It's greatly appreciated!
Avatar m tn This discussion is related to pseudomonas and chronic sinus. I have been struggling for years now. I was hopsitalized with pseudomonas pnemonia in 2000. Ever since then I've had chronic sinusitis. I have had two sinus surgeries. I found a good ENT in Anchorage that took cultures - it was pseudomonas again. Been on antibiotics, etc. He said that I have biofilms. Been flushing like crazy.
Avatar f tn It is the result of inflammatory obstruction of a seromucinous gland within the sinus mucosal lining, often due to chronic sinusitis. Treatment focuses on the chronic sinusitis, rather than the cyst itself.
Avatar m tn I have been taking the medicine (Flonase) for a month now but still have a sore throat on and off. He never swabbed my throat either. What could this be? The sore throat is there one day and the next day it's gone. The back of my throat is really red and looks swollen. Could this be a bacterial infection or something from giving oral? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn I have had 3 sinus surgeries in the past, but recent CT shows no blockage. I have allergies and chronic sinusitis. I take zyrtec, singulair, flonase and astepro for the allergies and sinus. My ENT is stumped. How can I get my taste and smell back?
Avatar m tn I was paying $135 or so for Nasonex, which I thought was ridiculously expensive at the time. When Flonase became an OTC product, I thought Nasonex would become cheaper. That's what competition is supposed to do. But noooooo... I went to CVS today and the price was $218 for Nasonex. That is a total ripoff... Why did the price go up? So what's the difference between Merck, the manufacturer, and a robber with a gun on the street? Answer: The gun. Merck robs you without using a gun.
479419 tn?1208127685 It is important to know if you are using flonase on a regular basis. Flonase is a nasal steroid and should not be used regularly as it is a predisposing factor for sinusitis. If allergies are the likely cause it is important to get an allergy test done to find out the potential allergens and then avoiding them. The link below will provide more information on how to prevent sinus infections. http://www.sinuswars.com/preventions.asp Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn Two regimens of antibiotics have proven to be ineffective. I am using daily the generic equivalent of Flonase, am also taking an antihistamine, Advair, and doing nasal irrigation with a neti pot. I have also had a chest XRay, which my physician said was clear. An ENT doctor examined my nose and throat using a camera probe and indicated that my vocal cords were slightly infamed -- but that was about it. Even with all that, I can't seem to shake this condition loose.
Avatar f tn I have the Arnold Chiari malformation and had the decompression surgery 21 yes ago. I have allergies and chronic sinusitis which makes me cough frequently and severely causing me unbearable pain in the back of my head like it is going to explode. It is almost too much to handle and it happens way too often. Any suggestions or advice please ?

Avatar n tn Throughout I have been doing the Netti Pot twice a day and using Flonase. First sinus infection and rarely have headaches. Neither have I ever had a history of high blood pressure, which is now all over the place. One day it was 165/106, the next morning it was back down to 110/73! Is surgery to clear it out my best option?

Avatar f tn My husband has had chronic sinusitis (it tends to occur sec. to colds/or exercise-induced asthma). Never drainage/congestion/fever. Only symptom is "pressure" mid-forehead & eyes. He's been on numerous abx/steroids beg. Oct/08; 8 courses of abx & medrol dose packs/pred. In order, he took Amox, Z-pack, Bactrim, Ceftin, Cefadroxil, and now Augmentin. CT scan showed anatomically smaller left maxillary sinus, slightly dev.
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with facial pain for about 8 months now. First diagnosis was sinusitis with treatment of antibiotics, daily Claritin and Flonase. No relief. Still having pain, mostly in the jaw area. Pain is now getting more severe and moving to overall headaches. I believe I have atypical trigeminal neuralgia as my pain is more constant than abrupt. Any suggestions? Alternative diagnoses?
Avatar f tn Hi there, You may want to try this nasal spray called Sinofresh. I have had chronic recurring sinusitis for the past 20 years. After countless rounds of antibiotics and 3 CT scans, I was told I needed sinus surgery. After having 2 sinus infections within a month, I found this product. I have been using it for 7 weeks now, and so far, so good. It really helps with drainage and does not have an unpleasant after-taste. I am recommending it to everyone I know.
