Common Questions and Answers about Flonase for etd

flovent

Avatar f tn does anyone know what kind of blockage a cat scan will show of the eustchain tube. i have eustchain tube dysfunction, dr only has me taking flonase and patanase for it.
Avatar m tn Sorry, there is no evidence that supports decongestants or antihistamines for ETD. I agree, it seems to make intuitive sense, but the docs who are prescribing/recommending such things are not going beyond that. This is always to frustrating... Unfortunately, there is no one good test for this. Perhaps even calling popping sounds ETD is unfair. For some, they seem to have this sound more so than others, but everyone's 'pops' to some degree.
Avatar f tn Two months ago I was sitting in a meeting and for a very brief moment I blacked out. I lost all vision for less than a second and then was back, but felt like I might pass out for the rest of the day. That feeling has morphed into lightheadedness some days, dizziness, headache, depending on the day, but has been with me almost every day for the past two months. Doctor suggested sinus infection and gave me steroids plus antibiotics.
Avatar f tn After flying at the tail end of a cold last February, I have had popping in my left ear. I usually wake up with my left ear feeling a bit plugged, also. This flight caused both ears a lot of pain at the time since I was unable to equalize them (which I've always had a problem doing even when not sick), but the pain was more so in the left ear. I had to fly back home again with this ear pain the following day which I'm sure wasn't helpful. In May, I woke up with extreme vertigo.
Avatar n tn ve been congested and I have slight dull pain almost all the time in my ears. My Doctor says it ETD and gave me Flonase which has done nothing. I realize that my 11 week negative test should have eased my fears but with this chronic sinus problem I just haven't been able to give it up. I know these symptoms aren't ARS but could they be signs of HIV complication? Please if you could answer these following questions I would be extremely grateful: 1.
Avatar n tn t show any increased white blood cells and CT scan showed thick mucous blockage and an enlarged cyst in right maxillary sinus cavity. My doctors put me on Flonase (2x per nostril twice a day for over a year now), Singulair (1 x per day), Bactrim, a short course of Prednisone, and eventually performed a Sinuplasty and Septoplasty (which didn't help).
1166402 tn?1303847056 There is no effective treatment for ETD. Your competent doctors gave you standard treatment. Yes, I've had it, from an infection, and it is mentally draining. Your doctors diagnosed allergies. If so, there is one last resort that may work for you. Nettle leaf capsules. They have no side effects, and in about half of people they work for reducing or eliminating allergies.
Avatar m tn I used flonase for a week and got better with my cough and then I stopped. Afterwards my cough came back and I saw a doctor and he told me do not use flonase which makes me cough. I am confused?
Avatar f tn As an example, I was searching for the reason for my ear problem and all my symptoms said Patulous Eustachian tube. Ended up being a semicircular canal problem simply because of one symptom I never thought was a symptom.
Avatar m tn Does ETD often present with sore throat . I have had bilateral ETD for 9 months now. I cannot pop my ears completely, feel full constantly, click + crackle always. Occasionally I try to clear my ears by manipulating my jaw. This works partially, but very often seem to get a sore throat. Anyone else with this problem ?
Avatar n tn I think that you are correct--there is not an effective treatment for ETD. My older, experienced doctor, and the freshly-trained doctor who subbed for him on vacation gave me the same treatment--pseudofed to dry up the head, and Mucinex, which worked a little. I also gave up dairy products and white-flour stuff, which are mucus producers.
Avatar f tn If it is ETD you need decongestants or even nasal steroids or antihistamine nasal spray --- ask your doctor for help and see if he can prescribe those for you to see if they help, If they help, it is ETD. not sure about Hydrops - I don't know anything about that. TMJ does not sound likely, that is a painful situation, not sure about fullness in the ear.
Avatar n tn I have had a blocked eustatian tube secondary to respiratory infection with major hearing impairment for 10 days. Tried flonase for several days, little effect. Finally tried Sudafed ( 12hr slow release) with clearing of blockage and 50 % regain of hearing within less than 24 hrs. Contnued for 12 more hrs , further improving hearing then stopped. Relapsed within 12 hrs but responded to sudafed retreatment within 12 hrs.
Avatar m tn t be upset with your ENT because there is no proven effective treatment for ETD, but now that you know the name you can search for some relief.
464237 tn?1315670793 t want the infection to get even worse. How is it ok to use flonase for bacterial infection? Have any of you used flonase for infection. My infection is not allergy related, it came from a cold that was going around. Thanks so much for reading. and yes I have been using nasal irrigation along with all of the other home remedies I have found on the internet.
Avatar m tn ve read that ETD presents often in HIV patients and in fact in patients that are asymptomatic except for the ETD is usually the first thing a doctor will want to rule out. Often it occurs because of adenoidal swelling. My ears began clogging up about 7 weeks after my last exposure so about 10 weeks after my first. Would this be way too early to be HIV related? Thanks for your time and thanks again for your patience.
Avatar n tn For 10 months after a severe cold I been having this symptoms: clogged ears feeling, dulled hearing, (metals and crystal sounds are very dull), feeling of preassure in my ears, and I feel a bit worse when it is cold, I have had some tests, including audiometry and it was for the most part normal, except my left ear that is at 30 db only at 8kh, My tympanogram showed an As type curve with a compliance at about 0.
Avatar f tn Those are common symptoms of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD) but only a doctor can diagnose it. There is no effective treatment, but it usually goes away on its own.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering with ETD and dizziness for about 2 months now. I have been out of work for a month.. i have good days and bad. was going to try to go back to work tomorrow but woke up dizzy and ears full today.... any ideas on this? i have be seeing an ENT he hasn't helped me any. Please help!
Avatar n tn Doctor, for 10 months after a severe cold I been having this symptoms: clogged ears feeling, dulled hearing, (metals and crystal sounds are very dull), feeling of preassure in my ears, and I feel a bit worse when it is cold, I have had some tests, including audiometry and it was for the most part normal, except my left ear that is at 30 db only at 8kh, My tympanogram showed an As type curve with a compliance at about 0.
Avatar n tn Argh. I really feel for you. I also had severe vertigo on and off for a two year period with one year being particularly bad. And now jut have the occasional episode but when it hits, oh my. It's debilitating. I can do nothing. I have the ear fullness, the strange inability to hear (out of one ear particularly-- I hear but it is tones are off or sounds like things are far away) and dizziness like the room is spinning. I'm nauseated and vomit from this as well.
Avatar n tn I've had this for about 4 years. Dr. says to use Flonase daily, so just started it. I think it might be from sinus but I have no symptoms.
1432874 tn?1283385853 I'm not sure what is causing your ETD, but mine was relieved by getting off of certain foods.....milk products and gluten (from wheat, barley, rye and oats). I haven't had a problem since then and that was 10 years ago. The milk was giving me the plugged up feeling and after 5 days staying away from all milk products (and I mean all) my eustachian tubes opened up on both sides at the same time and I felt trickling down my tubes!!!!!!
Avatar f tn t been feeling well. You can always call and ask your doctor these questions for guidance. Flonase is known to reduce nasal inflammation over time. The best thing is to blow your nose prior to using it and then wait as long as you possibly can before blowing your nose again. The longer you wait, the better chance the Flonase has of being absorbed into your nasal cavity. The most common recommendation is 15 to 30 minutes to wait to blow your nose after using. https://www.webmd.
1095010 tn?1284172980 s called Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD), your doctor is probably correct, you may wish to consult an ENT, but if it is ETD there aren't any effective treatments. If you are lucky it will clear up on it's own, but it takes many weeks. Yes, I had it, and it's extremely annoying. A Vicks vaporizer machine at night in your room helps a little. If it does clear up, avoid blowing your nose next time you have a cold. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Have started steam treatments. Have also noticed that the popping is worse in the morning when I wake up, then seems to cycle between more and less frequent every few hours through the rest of the day. Is this normal for ETD? Is it a good sign my ears don't pop every time I swallow? Is this feeling of fullness or water in the ear and sensitivity to sound part of the ETD or the tinnitus. Question whether it will ever get better.
