Flomax and kidney function

Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and kidney function

flomax

Avatar f tn They did put me on Flomax which helped me urinate more often and took the pain and difficulty in urinating away. I had been on Flomax since a hospitalization in January of 2007, but in the summer, my nephrologist took me off the medication. You know, it can be really confusing when you see so many doctors and they don't always agree with a plan of action. We'll see the urologist in 2 weeks and see what he says now. Thanks for the post.
Avatar m tn The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Thanks for the quick reply Dr Veena. Another question for you: should I take Flomax BEFORE taking Cipro? I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? Does it matter if I take them in the morning or evening, or is the rule just be consistent? Thanks again.
Avatar n tn If your doc prescribed Flomax for the kidney stone, more than likely that is the issue, as it is also prescribed for prostate issues, and is a blocker, like the above poster mentioned. I know this, as I have the same issue... The Internet is a lovely thing...
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years. Will normal ejaculation return if I stop the medication? How long will it take?
187666 tn?1331173345 Hello, Most people with kidney stones will have blood in the urine .The urine may be pink or reddish, or the blood may be visible only with urine dipstick testing or microscopic examination of the urine. In people who do not pass kidney stone lithotripsy is the treatment of choice. It is indicated for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Contact your doctor if the haematuria is persisting. Persistent haematuria can lead to weakness, dizziness and hypotension.
Avatar f tn s a nurse) would this be a valid answer. I have never had a kidney stone before and have never experienced this issue before. Now the other day when I was on the medicine I was able to ejaculate fine and everything was running good? Think it's the Flomax Subst-? Also for a second question on here, is it normal for my pain to be in the crotch area with a burning irregular feeling with the kidney stone?
Avatar f tn I saw a urologist who thought based on my inital symptoms, and also when I showed him where my pain originated that I had probably passed a kidney stone. About 10 hours after this event took place, I felt like I had a UTI. I had frequency, urgency and shooting pains. It's been a year now, and I still have those symptoms although the shooting pains have disappeared. Also, I don't experience burning or nocturnia. My urine culture always comes back negative.
Avatar f tn Yes, when I have a stone or stones, I'll have a much more frequent urge to urinate than when I don't have a stone. I've also experienced a very slight burning sensation at times with a stone too. Are you on anything like Flomax? I've noticed a more frequent urge since I've been taking Flomax too. Not sure if that's the Flomax, or just my age coming into play.LOL!
Avatar m tn I have recently been taking flomax for kidney stones two days ago. Last night when duing sexual intimacy when I orgasimed there was no semen at all! It feels like I am just busting off a big one but there is absolutely nothing! The same thing happend tonight. Me and my girlfriend are getting kind of worried. Is this a normal side effect? And if it is how long does it normally last?... I mean its not something that can cause serious or permanent damage is it? PLEASE HELP ME!
Avatar n tn I have been on a cather off and on for about 3 to 4 weeks now also I have been on flomax for a week. I have problems urinateing on my own sense surgery. I go to my urologist he takes out cather try to urinate but can't. My question is am I to anxious?
Avatar m tn In my opinion, investigations like kidney functions, blood sugar levels, ultrasound lower abdomen(already ruled out kidney causes) ,intravenous pyelography , thyroid function tests and cystoscopy may be needed to confirm a diagnosis.I sincerely advise you to consult a urologist or nephrologist and get yourself evaluated so that a confirmatory diagnosis can be made. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.Kind regards.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure where you're getting the info that stent removal has all this pain attached to it. Have you had a stent before and had severe pain when it was removed? I've had a stent and there was discomfort when it was removed but not the severe pain you are indicating. There may be a burning sensation for a day or two afterwards when urinating, and even then the amount of that burning sensation differs from person to person and male to female.
Avatar n tn I can only tell you what I've been told over the years I've dealt with kidney stones. Drink plenty of water daily and make sure that your urine stays clear in color when you urinate. When you think you're drinking enough water, then drink another 8 oz glass of it. Additionally, recently I've started taking Flomax (generic version) on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn They sent me home with a script for Norco and Flomax and told me to get a follow up appt. with my Dr., drink plenty of fluids, and strain my urine. It was a week before my Dr. could see me, but I had the Norco and was able to stay on top of the pain. By the time I saw the doc, I hadn't had any pain for approx. 36 hrs. so I thought maybe I had passed it without knowing it. He did a urine test and it showed a small amount of blood +1. So he is thinking it did NOT pass yet.
Avatar m tn Most 3mm UVJ stones pass without surgery, and Flomax and fluids are all you can do. If it has not passed, the treatment of choice would probably be ureteroscopy, an endoscopic procedure to break up and remove the stone.
Avatar f tn I've been having pain for 2 weeks that's been like my other kidney stones. I've had several surgerys to have them removed in the past so I know what I'm feeling. I went to my urologist today and he told me it's a 2mm stone in my kidney and shouldn't be causing pain. So why am I experiencing pain and was able to know it was a stone? Also I haven't been prescribed anything to help with it except narcotics for the pain. No flomax or anything. I don't know what to do.
2143924 tn?1545284130 Hello, For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .Few doctors also recommend Tamsulosin (Flomax)to speed the passage of stones. The size and location of ureter stones are the most important factors for predicting the spontaneous passage of the stone. Lithotripsy is a good option for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Consult a nephrologist for more queries and assistance. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn my bun is 63 and my creatine is 8.02 and im 60 yrs. old.
Avatar f tn Back in july i posted about having several stones in my left kidney one of which was 8 mm and also one in that ureter and one in the right kidney. Well after over a month of flomax and massive amounts of water i had another x-ray which showed 9 stones in my left kidney the largest measuring 4 mm. Nothing in the ureters so i passed the 3 mm in the left and the one in the right it just took FOREVER lol. So I'm guessing that my 8 mm stone broke into more pieces?
Avatar f tn I stopped, and when the urinary issues seemed to be more problematic again, I returned to the added Flomax, and immediately discovered the same lack of semen and abdominal pain (during the 2 months not taking Flomax, ejaculatory function returned to normal). My question (after all that build up) is are any other men here on Flomax combined with Detrol LA? And, if so, has anyone had the same experiences that I previously explained?
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn Hi, A few years ago a urologist put me on testosterone replace therapy since I was not producing enough testosterone. I had lost one testicle due to an infection. During a random blood test the check on the testosterone level and PSA it was noted that the PSA level was high. The urologist asked me if I had had a UTI or other sort of infection. I told him that a few days before my appointment with him I had just finished a course of Cipro to treat a kidney infection.
Avatar f tn Simon, I tried a lot of the stuff I saw online. Olive Oil , Lemon Juice (like 20 fricken Lemons) nothing "shrunk" it. Your urologist will tell you if it's "passable" or not and if you have any blockage. What did help me was sleeping on the opposite side of the stone those days I felt the best when I let gravity help . Set a timer for an hour and have 8oz glass of water ready and drink it, if you feel up to it work out. Dont sit around.
Avatar m tn my son has gone to the doctors and gave him flomax, antibotic, pain meds the pain is in the head of the penis when he urinates.
