Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and kidney stones

flomax

Avatar f tn s a nurse) would this be a valid answer. I have never had a kidney stone before and have never experienced this issue before. Now the other day when I was on the medicine I was able to ejaculate fine and everything was running good? Think it's the Flomax Subst-? Also for a second question on here, is it normal for my pain to be in the crotch area with a burning irregular feeling with the kidney stone?
Avatar n tn I can only tell you what I've been told over the years I've dealt with kidney stones. Drink plenty of water daily and make sure that your urine stays clear in color when you urinate. When you think you're drinking enough water, then drink another 8 oz glass of it. Additionally, recently I've started taking Flomax (generic version) on a daily basis.
187666 tn?1331173345 Hello, Most people with kidney stones will have blood in the urine .The urine may be pink or reddish, or the blood may be visible only with urine dipstick testing or microscopic examination of the urine. In people who do not pass kidney stone lithotripsy is the treatment of choice. It is indicated for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Contact your doctor if the haematuria is persisting. Persistent haematuria can lead to weakness, dizziness and hypotension.
Avatar f tn Back in july i posted about having several stones in my left kidney one of which was 8 mm and also one in that ureter and one in the right kidney. Well after over a month of flomax and massive amounts of water i had another x-ray which showed 9 stones in my left kidney the largest measuring 4 mm. Nothing in the ureters so i passed the 3 mm in the left and the one in the right it just took FOREVER lol. So I'm guessing that my 8 mm stone broke into more pieces?
2143924 tn?1545284130 Hello, For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .Few doctors also recommend Tamsulosin (Flomax)to speed the passage of stones. The size and location of ureter stones are the most important factors for predicting the spontaneous passage of the stone. Lithotripsy is a good option for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Consult a nephrologist for more queries and assistance. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!

And if it is how long does it normally last?... I mean its not something that can cause serious or permanent damage is it? PLEASE HELP ME!

Avatar f tn Simon, I tried a lot of the stuff I saw online. Olive Oil , Lemon Juice (like 20 fricken Lemons) nothing "shrunk" it. Your urologist will tell you if it's "passable" or not and if you have any blockage. What did help me was sleeping on the opposite side of the stone those days I felt the best when I let gravity help . Set a timer for an hour and have 8oz glass of water ready and drink it, if you feel up to it work out. Dont sit around.
Avatar f tn In addition the therapy for renal stones depends on the size, the location and the kidney functions. Please consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests, x- rays and may ask for an ultrasonogram to find out the cause for stone formation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I also started taking a medication called FloMax prescribed for me by the VA Urologist and it seems to be working great, in conjunction with the bottled water. There is a generic brand for FloMax that is cheaper too. I'd sure look into getting on a daily FloMax regiment and watching what kind of water I was drinking. Oh yeah, as a non vegiterian, I'd also suggest a great big steak too! May not help you with the kidney stone problem but it sure will make you feel better!! LOL!
Avatar f tn I've been having pain for 2 weeks that's been like my other kidney stones. I've had several surgerys to have them removed in the past so I know what I'm feeling. I went to my urologist today and he told me it's a 2mm stone in my kidney and shouldn't be causing pain. So why am I experiencing pain and was able to know it was a stone? Also I haven't been prescribed anything to help with it except narcotics for the pain. No flomax or anything. I don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn t do a CT scan so he ordered one and I find out I had two kidney stones a 3x2mm in my left kidney and a 5x3mm in my right kidneys. Non obstructive and still in the kidneys in the lower pole. I was told I was at risk for them getting bigger. I got prescribed hydro's and sent home. 8 days later I was in even worse pain to the point I was in tears and so nauseous I couldn't eat. The pain was now in both flanks.
Avatar n tn I was given pain meds and flomax, however I never passed the stone. Recently my stones started acting up again and I was told to go to a Urologist to have them taken out. Well I cant get into the Urologist for 3 weeks and I have been suffering with extreme pain for 4 days now. The problem is that it has quit hurting in my back and side, and only hurts in my lower left abdomine now. This pain mainly appears late at night waking me several times.
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks and have history of kidney stones prior to pregnancy. I currently have them, yes plural. They're awful and no one should experience them, especially during pregnancy. I'm sure you're on flomax and an antibiotic? Also, the only thing that seems to remotely help are hot baths. My doctor informed me that if we can make it through this, labors a breeze.
Avatar f tn Yes, when I have a stone or stones, I'll have a much more frequent urge to urinate than when I don't have a stone. I've also experienced a very slight burning sensation at times with a stone too. Are you on anything like Flomax? I've noticed a more frequent urge since I've been taking Flomax too. Not sure if that's the Flomax, or just my age coming into play.LOL!
Avatar f tn There are meds and diet changes that can decrease your stones for the future and save you a lot of $$, in the long run. I will tell you though, there are much better treatments for stones then in the past. Find a research or college hospital near you. They are also often more likely to have an assistance program. Find out if they have and use the Holmium laser. This laser can break up larger stones with less kidney stress etc. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I passed my stools but with lots of sweating and pain. I looked me in mirror and saw my self sweating and felt like vomiting and severe heaviness in chest. I rushed to the room and set for a while but no improvement. It was 2'oclock night. I asked help to one of my colleague and was taken to nearby hospital. They given me painkillers and pain subsided and got the discharge. At home pain started again but this time on right kidney side and I had another visit to hospital.
Avatar m tn It could be kidney stones, a urinary tract infection, kidney infection, bladder infection, or tears/abrasions to any of the above (kidney, bladder or urinary tract.) Blood in the urine is the symptom of something that is likely much more serious.
Avatar f tn I have had a pinching pain down there a few times which with previous kidney stones for me meant it dropped into my bladder and my symptoms were then all gone. My situation and question is this. I do not have health insurance right now and cannot afford to go to the urologist for self pay ($600 min). If the urinary urgency is so bad at times and I've had that pinching pain a few times, doesn't it sound like the stone is right there at the bladder drop and just stuck and not dropping?
Avatar m tn Emerg visit this month showed (big surprise) on CT, two left kidney stones 2-3 mm, one in kidney and one between bladder and kidney. This is the first time CT has been done laying on stomach. If part of this has been kidney stones all along, why might I be getting severe abdominal bloat with these episodes? I have not passed stone yet (week 3) but put on Flomax 3 days ago and bloat seems to be reducing. Thanks for your suggestions.
Avatar f tn t know for sure what was wrong with me so he made me an appointment with a urologist and he also gave me a couple weeks of flomax for my symptoms just in case I had kidney stones.
895634 tn?1283989210 Update: Week 27 of 48. UND, sides well-comtroled. Previously seen questionable indeterminate liver lesion on MRI now determined to be NOT HCC due to stability over time and imaging features. Had surprise wake-up callyesterday 5 am...Left renal colic. Anybody aware of an association between treatment and kidney stones? I've had renal colic before, but this is by far the most painful bout. Hepatologist gave green light for Vicodin or Percocet, which are helping.
Avatar f tn The treatment for kidney stones depends on their size and what they are made of and also if they are causing pain or obstructing the urinary tract. Small stones usually pass through the urinary tract without treatment. It is good advice to stay well hydrated as that should prevent the stones from getting any bigger or new ones from forming. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .
Avatar m tn Most 3mm UVJ stones pass without surgery, and Flomax and fluids are all you can do. If it has not passed, the treatment of choice would probably be ureteroscopy, an endoscopic procedure to break up and remove the stone.
