Avatar n tn Exercises for the front of your legs like wall squats, you stand with your back against the wall, then bend your knees to lower your hips until your thighs are near parallel with the floor. Maintain your wall squat for five to 10 seconds and then release. Include exercises for the back of your legs such as a leg curl. Stand facing a chair and then bend your knee to lift your foot behind your body and hold it still for three to five seconds. Lift and lower each foot eight to 10 times.
Avatar m tn s uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old. I had an X-ray taken in December that my Internal Med. Physician initially said revealed dehydrated discs around the S1 area but later said they looked fine. I have been doing yoga 3-5 times a week the past 1.
Avatar n tn The PT will then prescribe you a specific set of exercises, flexibility and strengthening for your condition. Other modalities that can be helpful to reduce your pain might be heat, ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and soft tissue work. Lumbar traction is also helpful in temporarily reducing the compression of the irritated nerves and therefore allowing a decrease in inflammation and pain.
Avatar f tn Kegel exercises are good for strengthening muscles. You can also do pelvic tilts and there are prenatal yoga classes too. I've also been doing standing hip circles (kind of like slowed hula hoop motions). Anything that opens up and stretches the pelvic area is good. Well, within reason anyways.
Avatar n tn I suggest buying the following 2 books by Mitchell T. Yass, PHD PT Over Power Pain and Pain Cure Rx.
Avatar f tn s Health Total Workout in Ten! It is broken into ten minute segments- cardio, upper body, lower body and flexibility/balance. You can pick out the routine that you want to work on or do them all. It also gives an alternative set of exercises to do, actually demonstrated by one of the women on the dvd, that are not quite as strenuous. It was around $15 on amazon. I have also seen dvds specific to MS patients' needs. You might want to look at those, too.
Avatar f tn Losing as few pounds can cut the risk of developing knee osteoarthritis by 50% for some women. Although OA typically affects the knees, your hips, hands, lower back, and neck may also be affected. Always ask your doctor before doing any exercise! Warming up with gentle stretching can help get your body ready for your workout. Gentle stretches such as side bends, shoulder shrugs, arm circles, overhead stretches, and bending to reach (but not touch) your toes are all good warm-up exercises.

Avatar m tn What is. a Back Bubble? I have lived with my back pain for years but now I can't do the therapy exercises and stretching because it causes so much pain within 1 hour that I can't move. Wondering if this will help me?
Avatar n tn about a year ago when i realised that it was bad for me decided to start changing on my back or on my side. it took me a while to get used to this but eventually i did. i am not sure if this has anything to do with my problem right now but it seems liek valuable detail. anyhow, everytime i play football my back doesnt feel too bad, but around 2-3 hours after play it gets very stiff and my flexibility is reduced quite a lot so that it is painful to even bend down.
Avatar m tn Ill shear this link to all my friends, i know some one out there will enjoy this exercises.
Avatar f tn anyone have any good body stretches? I'm looking for new ones or ones I haven't seen before... Contortionist type stretches are welcome too!!
Avatar f tn Slowly lean forward at your waist while maintaining a straight back. Reach for your toes. As you reach for your toes, you should feel a stretch in the back of your upper leg. Hold this position for a count of 10 seconds. Relax and repeat 10 times. Repeat an additional 10 times with the opposite leg if it is affected by high hamstring tendinopathy as well. Lying hamstring curl can help to improve strength and flexibility in your hamstring muscles.
Avatar m tn Hey, I'm a 17 year old female and have been experiencing back pain for 1.5-2 years. I got an mri scan just before Christmas, which showed the two lower disks in my back were bulging, the doctor told me to walk everyday to fix this problem, but one month on and the pain is ten times worse than it was before, I have been experiencing a continous spasm in my back for 3 days now, and can't so simple things, even walking is a chore. I am at a loss of what to do about this.
Avatar m tn You should continue with physical therapy exercises and just wait and watch as it might take some time for the leg to come to its normal.
Avatar m tn Sorry, I hit the return key before I was finished. As I said, postures can cause spine disease (like arthritis), but surgical correction probably isn't the answer. Instead, look to noninvasive interventions you can make yourself. Be aware of your posture in all positions -- don't slouch. Strengthen those muscles that support the lower back, and you'll feel better.
Avatar n tn Again, work with a physical therapist or medical professional to choose the best exercises for your particular situation. An exercise routine that can be done anytime, anywhere, alone, or with a group? Walking might be a perfect match. It’s safe, low impact, strengthens muscles, and helps keep weight in check. Aim for a pace that leaves you slightly short of breath, but not so much that you can’t carry on a conversation normally.
Avatar f tn ve been suffering from some type of pain in my shoulders/cervical area that goes all the way to my neck and lower back of the head making it stiff, its like the back of my head weights 10kg and this just disables me. Avatar m tn I have what I would consider to be relatively minor lower back problems caused by degeneration - the standard aging process. I am 58 years old. About once or twice a year my lower back muscles tighten or even spasm and then I go through a period of one to two weeks of recovery. Getting up from a sitting position is difficult, but once standing I have no problems walking. Since I have no problem or pain when walking should I continue to walk?
Avatar n tn They consist of stretching and holding different joint and muscle groups for 10 to 30 seconds each. Stretching improves flexibility, and daily stretching is the basis for any exercise program. Strength exercises involve working the muscle against resistance. This can be either with or without weights. Resistance training strengthens the muscle and increases the amount of activity you can do pain-free. Conditioning exercise, also called aerobic exercise, improves cardiovascular fitness.
Avatar f tn t bounce around or exert too much. It is amazing for strength and flexibility and burns calories too.
Avatar f tn I'm 29 weeks today and I have extreme lower back pain! So bad I've been limping for 2 weeks now the doctor said it's normal but didn't help with what I can do to help it I rest & doing light exercise to make sure I'm not walking too much or sitting for too long but nothing helps. My partner massages it& I sat with frozen veg on it as it was swollen. Today it was so bad after laying down for an hour I couldn't walk.
15502615 tn?1440995053 Your doctor may recommend that you meet with a physical therapist to provide you with specific exercises designed for your needs. Range-of-motion and stretching exercises can help maintain flexibility in your joints and preserve good posture. Avatar m tn I have sufferred from back ache for quite a long time. If I arch my back backward I can feel the strain at my lower vertebra. Recently my doctor told me that 3 of my lower vertebra have fused together. I have been doing exercise of bending forward and backward to stress my vertebra. Will this exercise caused more harm to my back or should I continue doing this exercise. I am not on any back ache medication. The ache is not that serious and is manageable.
Avatar m tn Likewise, correction of any pes planus and the use of anti-pronation devices with an over-the-counter or custom orthosis is imperative for active individuals who do weight-bearing exercises or who run and walk regularly.....so consult a physio...for better treatment....
Avatar n tn Well, yeah, squats are good for one part of the body, but make sure you do them correctly with proper posture because they can be very hard on the lower back otherwise. But the poster wants, I think, to tone the whole body, and so needs someone to propose a whole body program.
