flax-seed

Avatar n tn i just started treatment with telaprevir, and have used flax seed oil for the fat on one dose and will use it again. the problem with flax seed oil is it goes rancid really fast. so if you are going to use it make sure you buy from a very reliable source that refrigerates the oil and check the date. yesterday i bought an 8 ounce bottle of barlean's flax oil that was pressed on 9/15/10 with an expiration of 3/15/11. so make sure it is supper fresh. rancid oil will cause liver damage.
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.
Avatar f tn The intact flaxseed has a protective coat that keeps the oil safe inside. The seed coat is so strong that most intact flaxseeds tend to pass right through our digestive systems. Inside flaxseeds are a number of antioxidants, which are nature's way of helping assure the viability of the seeds once they are planted. The healthful components of the flaxseeds become available to us once the seeds are cracked or ground, but the process also increases the susceptibility to oxidation.

Avatar n tn Hello -- I have been trying to find out whether consuming flax seed would interfere with the efficacy of the taxol / herceptin treatments that I am receiving for my breast cancer. I understand from a study done at the University of Toronto that flax seed may help to eliminate breast cancer. However, I would not want to consume anything that would interfere with my regular medical treatment. The cancer is in the left side of my lymph system. It is estrogen-receptor and HER-2 positive.

Avatar m tn But, for the most part, those “health claims” are unsubstantiated and, at best, shaky. Plus, there are serious side effects of flax seed oil. For example, Some researchers believe flaxseed may affect blood clotting factors. This can be particularly worrisome for individuals who are taking blood thinning medications such as Coumadin, Heparin or even aspirin. If you wish to take flaxseed oil, and you're taking these types of medications, you should first consult with your doctor.
612551 tn?1450022175 Hi Jerry. There are some benefits of flaxseed, as the oils are similar to fish oils but without the smell. However, there is a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which isn't too good. It's a complicated process, but effectively dogs find it hard to convert alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) to the more active non-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, so although some omega-6 is okay (in fact, some say it's essential), it's the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 that's important.
6579347 tn?1388502368 Hi, Paxiled! I've been in PT for 4 weeks now, and haven't seen any improvement. She gave me a steroid shot last Friday - my neck is better, but my low back is still killing me. I left a post on the back/neck forum for advice on that. It was just curious to me that after I started the green tea extract, my mitral valve prolapse started palpitating and my anxiety surfaced a bit. You gave me a lot of good ideas - thank you!
Avatar f tn My eyes are still very dry and I wear an eye mask at night ...it makes them feel better the next day. Also, when I remember, I take Flax Seed Oil, that really does help.
574118 tn?1305135284 Do you know if eating flax seeds is like using the oil?? its oil is spoiled easily but eating the seed itself over some salad is safer BUT DOES IT HAVE THE SAME EFFECT???

Avatar f tn m still having him take a 1000mg of flaxseed, do you know anything about males and flaxseed vs fish oil. I hate to abandon the flaxseed, since I've spent money on it. But will the fish oil help his swimmers more? Oh, and how much Fish Oil do you think I should take?
Avatar f tn Since essential fatty acids are necessary, you can take flax seed oil in place of Evening Primrose Oil or EPO after ovulation. This may be taken throughout pregnancy as well. There are many remedies out there to help with fertility, but few are as good as Evening Primrose Oil or EPO. Evening Primrose Oil or EPO is excellent for women because of the help it gives in alleviating premenstrual syndrome symptoms, and even menopausal women can benefit from taking it.
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.

1976414 tn?1326171323 can I drink boost with flax seed oil in it for the fat content required for incivek doses
Avatar n tn Flax seeds, whole, will just pass through your GI tract pretty much undisturbed.A lot has written about flaxseed oil but more has been validated with Fish Oil to really have a positive impact on lipids, heart, inflammation, eyes, GI and joints.I would recommend a prescription type Fish Oil to assure purity and consistency in dosage. Do you really need 8 glasses of water? You're probably swallowing quite a bit of air with that.
Avatar f tn What is true is that the Omega 3 in flax seed oil is different from that in fish oil, and flax seed oil contains more than just omega 3 oils, whereas most fish oil is artificially purified to eliminate many other beneficial oils that would also be a fish. Since you can get cold processed organically grown flax, whereas fish are contaminated pretty much everywhere now, and for vegetarians, flax is a good source of oil, but for a diabetic, fish oil probably would be a good choice.
