Common Questions and Answers about Flaxseed meal whole ground

flax-seed

Avatar f tn Is the "flaxseed meal" you speak of come already ground up? I have read that flaxseed does no good unless it's ground up.
Avatar f tn I added 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to my diet for the past year. I was very discouraged when I received the results of my lipid panel results. Last year: total chol.=238, trig.=59, HDL=101, LDL=125. This year: total chol.=240, trig.=67, HDL=98, LDL=128. My bad numbers went up and my good number (HDL) went down. Why? (I am a 60 year old female. I exercise regularly (jog and ballet), I am 5'2" and weigh 92 pounds.

Avatar n tn I buy the liquid gels and also grind whole flaxseed and mix it into a healthy smoothie drink. (Obviously, the flaxseed is to be taken orally--never directly to the eye!
Avatar f tn With flaxseed meal, you can even add just a small portion of the amount you will be using for the whole day with each meal, so that you're also not eating it all at once, which might be helpful when you have such a sensitive system. Don't forget that you must drink plenty of water with any kind of fiber and with gastro problems, for that matter.
Avatar n tn After cooking, I stir in 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed meal, one teaspoon of maple syrup and one teaspoon of peanut butter. Delicious! JoAnne My allergies are off the chart so healthy meals are hard. No fruit other than citrus, blueberries and blackberries, no tree nuts, no shellfish, no soy . . . It is difficult. Breakfast usually is organic yogurt, I put steel cut oats on the night before so they are somewhat chewy. At times I put blueberries or blackberries in too.
16702 tn?1234090645 I'm guessing the results may vary. I use ground flax seed in a lot of things. I started using it about a year ago when I kept bloating and thought it was just slow bowels or something. Yeah, it was something alright. Anyway, I sneak it into cookies, oatmeal, on cereal, in yogurt, even sprinkle a little on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It keeps me regular but I still get my tingles and hot flashes. Oh well. At least I'm not constipated too.
Avatar n tn Flaxseedmeal aka Flaxseedflour aka Flax seeds ground into a flour aka meal. (I prefer golden-the dark brown tasted bitter to me.) Sorry, whole seeds, or flaxseed oil won't help. Flaxseedmeal literally vacuums your blood. (I do not recommend it for children.) I would put a heaping tablespoon of this into my morning oatmeal packet 5 days a week. I found I could start taking it only a few days before my drs appts and still dramatically affect my lab results.
Avatar n tn When my wife was preparing for an operation, her lab work showed her liver counts to be very high, near 200. The Dr. said, many things eaten could raise these levels. They wanted to know if she had eaten cereal with flaxseed and said flaxseed could have a large effect. I mention this so you'll know if it happens to you.
Avatar f tn s a real food item that is often added to baked goods, whether as whole flax seeds or as flaxseed meal. I advise against the whole flax seeds. It needs to be flaxseed meal (ground up) in order to be effective. FYI: The flax leaves are what is used to make true linen. They are stripped down to their fibers and woven into cloth. Now you know why true linen of fine quality is so expensive. This doesn't mean that you walk out of conventional medicine altogether by any means.
Avatar f tn I am a 90 year old female and currently experiencing aches in my whole body - arms, legs, back, shoulders, etc. I have recently purchased a new pillow top mattress, but have been good nights sleep. I do not do any tossing and turning where it is keeping me from getting a good nights sleep. It's just after I get up in the morning that I am experiencing these aches along with some sweating.
Avatar n tn i want her to put on a few more pounds and i am trying out a whole lot of things..i am giving her whole milk, whole milk yogurt, cheese, pediasure and even avocados occcasionally...but still not much of improvement..i am really confused.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if drizzling flaxseed oil onto salad, orange juice and other foods is OK for people with MS? I heard that flaxseed oil is supposed to help patients with MS a lot. It contains Omega 3 fatty acids.
Avatar m tn Something I have found very helpful for my IBS is the use of flaxseed meal as my fiber supplement. I noticed that a couple of other people have been mentioning this as well. If you've been using psyllium fiber, I suggest switching to flaxseed meal. I'm sure you and your mother will see some improvement in your IBS symptoms by using flaxseed meal instead of psyllium fiber. Psyllium fiber is known to be harsh and irritating to the gut.
Avatar n tn Ground whole grain corn, chicken by-product meal, animal fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), liver flavor, flaxseed, soybean oil, powdered cellulose, dried beet pulp, fish oil, corn gluten meal, dicalcium phosphate, dried egg product, iodized salt, dl-methionine, potassium chloride, choline chloride, natural flavor, vitamins (l-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), vitamin E supplement, niacin, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, bioti
Avatar n tn I live on smoothies..every morning!! Strawberries, bananas, blueberries, ground flaxseed, greens and oatmeal! Keeps me full throughout the morning, it's the only thing I could stand to eat the first 2 months.
Avatar f tn I can relate to some of this, because I have the same kind of IBS that you do. I don't know if I have FMS (I have the symptoms to indicate the strong possibility), but I do have CFS and MCS, so I can relate. We have a special problem, since we have many food sensitivities and allergies. I am sure you are already aware of the gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance issues, since they go with the territory. I was hospitalized with renal failure not too long ago myself.
Avatar m tn There is a gentler fiber that I have found to be less irritating to the gut. This is flaxseed meal. I read of a woman who said that she used it much like one uses Metamucil and drinks it down first thing in the morning and last thing at night and has done so for years. Taking psyllium fiber (the main ingredient in Metamucil) wasn't helpful for her bowel troubles, but the flaxseed meal was. I find it helpful for me, too, but I simply add it directly to whatever I'm eating.
Avatar f tn Thanks traciv:) I would like to start drinking more milk now, that's why I asked. It's good to know that you can also drink 1%.
Avatar f tn Take it as a supplement not as a meal. This works to lose weight if one is too fat (as a meal replacement) and will cause weight gain for those that are too thin. Contrary to what some might think, weight bearing ie weight lifting, builds muscle mass and increases weight also. This does not mean you need to look like a male body builder, but it does help with weight gain. I assume you do not want unhealthy fat gain.
Avatar n tn It does sound like IBS, and stress will certainly aggravate IBS. Have you seen a doctor for it? Usually, a GI will have a person go through some tests, like a colonoscopy, to rule out any other causes for your symptoms. Although it's most likely IBS, you really ought to see your doctor first of all. If you find out that this is IBS, there are some things you can do that will help it. One thing that doctors almost always try is prescribing an antispasmodic drug.
