Flax seed vs omega 3

Common Questions and Answers about Flax seed vs omega 3

flax-seed

Avatar f tn Please don't misunderstand me. I am not advocating for not taking any multivitamins; I'm just saying that for specific vitamins and minerals, there are food alternatives that are better - if you incorporate them into your daily diet. I actually take Centrum and a folic acid supplement daily since they give me most of the vitamins that I need and don't cost much, but was spending alot of money on prenatal Omega-3 pills. The flax seed is an alternative to Omega-3 only.
Avatar n tn My husband has severe dry eyes, and has started taking omega 3 and flax seed oil. It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
518994 tn?1212242047 The highest, most concentrated source of Omega 3 fatty acids are marine lipids (from fish) or Krill, and Flax Seed oil for dogs (cats are obligate carnivores and cannot metabolize flax seed oil as well as marine sources). Olive oil is a good source but not as concentrated. A Fox Terrier would require 500mg Omega-3 Fatty acids daily, preferably in divided doses. The Omega-3 fatty acid product can be manufactured for humans or pets. As Dr.
250155 tn?1485295939 does anyone here use this on a daily basis? i've read a lot of good things about it and we just got some. we bought ground flax seed... but we haven't used it yet. can anyone tell me any other things about it i may not have read or possible different ways that you use it? thank you.
Avatar f tn I use a stabalized ground flax seed product to provide about 2/3 of my daily Omega-3 and a high quality fish oil capsule for the final third. The flax adds a pleasant nutty flavor to the small portion of yogurt I mix it with. I use products with (if I remember right) a 6:1 ratio of Omega-3:Omega-6. I get plenty of O-sixes from my diet (they are easy for most of us) but don't eat nearly enough foods rich in O-threes to keep a good ratio going.
612551 tn?1450022175 Flax seed is generally considered a good diet supplement for omega 3 and other good stuff - for humans. Is it good to add to dog food, either canned or home cooked? I suppose if you dog eats Kibble with water some could be mixed in there too.
1976414 tn?1326171323 Husband taking Udos's oil (similiar to flax - a 3-6-9 Omega) and has been successful. I think the answer is yes, as long as you've got 20 g of fat in there.
475555 tn?1469304339 s best source of omega-3 fatty acids, especially ALA, better than fish oil and better than flax seed oil. Could be true...
Avatar f tn Hi to eevryone! Your cardiologist may not know it, but flax oil hardly converts to omega-3's; only 2% at best of the omega-3 linolenic acid component is converted to the useful omega-3 fats DHA and EPA, and that is IF there are no omega-6 fats competing for uptake. Other than that, the linolenic acid in flax oil has no known use in the body, and flax oil obviously has shortcomings by containing a relatively high amount of inflammatory omega-6 linoleic acid.
Avatar m tn I have the opposite effect with omega 3 from krill oil. It makes them tons worse. I take a tsp. of flax seed each day and blend them in a smoothie and that doesn't seem to bother me. What brand of plant based omega 3 do you use? After my bad experiences with krill oil, I'm kind of scared to take anything but whole flax seeds.
671251 tn?1236116671 It also said that flax seed and flax seed oil are high in Omega 3 fatty acids without the worry of mercury. Flax seed flour is good to add to foods in place of some of the flour. It has to be ground or crushed to be used by our bodies. Walnuts are another good source too. I found a good recipe for salmon cakes in Joy of Cooking. Here is the recipe I used.
Avatar n tn i just started treatment with telaprevir, and have used flax seed oil for the fat on one dose and will use it again. the problem with flax seed oil is it goes rancid really fast. so if you are going to use it make sure you buy from a very reliable source that refrigerates the oil and check the date. yesterday i bought an 8 ounce bottle of barlean's flax oil that was pressed on 9/15/10 with an expiration of 3/15/11. so make sure it is supper fresh. rancid oil will cause liver damage.
403156 tn?1290150018 My doc can't stress the benefits of Omega 3 and Flax Seed powder enough. He says there is real life research showing all the benefits they have on mood, not to mention, heart and arteries. If you take Omega # my doc says if it smells like fish, it's a cheap grade. Go for the higher grade oils. They shouldn't have an odor.
Avatar n tn Parents of ADHD children and ADHD adults who wish to utilize omega-3 fatty acids as a method of modifying their behavior should use both flax and seafood sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Flax provides alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the master omega-3 fatty acid from which other omega-3 fatty acids are synthesized. Seafood provides DHA directly which appears to be a vital omega-3 fatty acid for modifying behavior of ADHD children and adults. The rate of conversion of ALA to DHA is quite low.
Avatar m tn Recently I heard that taking omega 3 capsules( the transparent one) will increase the risk of prostate cancer. Is there any scientific studies conducted on the subject?
Avatar m tn I wonder whether you will throw similar light on the use of Flax seed and Flax seed oil. There are many websites on the internet. If important aspects are given in a simple manner, it will prove useful to all community members.Dr.Budwig protocol is also an important work on Flax seed. Please do write on this subject. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have tried different brands of fish oil on different occassions as well as my husband. I wished I could take it for the health benefits; but, in our case, it causes digestive upset such as bloating and gas. So, I've replaced fish oil with flax seed oil and we do not experience the gas and bloating we had with fish oil. In my case, I feel much better on flax seed oil, emotionally as well as physically.
213398 tn?1202670474 The scientist attribute the lack of Alzhiemers to the Tumeric. Flax Seed Oil (Omega 3) is GREAT for everyone....(I only use organic products) and try to get it in my food sources first ...fresh salmon, Flax seed...but also take an organic supplement. My doctor highly recomends it, but again I was taking it before I was Dx. I just started mixing Acai juice in my fruit drinks/ on ocassion(mainly because it is so expensive) never heard of any negative effects...again I am new to this one....
Avatar n tn Take fish oil or flax seed oil for the omega-3 fatty acids that will lower triglyceride levels and improve liver function. Take milk thistle or dandelion that support liver health and help detoxify the body. Take vitamin B-12 and Coenzyme Q10 to help rebuild liver cells.
Avatar f tn thanks, I will start using flax seed again, had stopped during tx. I usually grind them and sprinkle them over my food and salads etc...
198942 tn?1236316304 We all need the essential fatty acids to stay healthy, and oils that are high in Omega 3 oils, we get enough Omega 6 oils in our diets through eggs and such. The omega 3 is best obtained from fish, and I take a fish oil supplement for my heart and general brain health, it is in liquid form and not too bad once you get used to it. Flax seed oil is another good oil, it sort of has a "nutty" taste.
6579347 tn?1388502368 re good for you -- green tea is loaded with antioxidants and flax seed oil is high in omega three oils, but for an injury you usually want something that's anti-inflammatory and healing if possible. Usually what you'd be told to get by natural practitioners is some combination of something like MSM, glucosamine and chondroiton sulfate, ginger, turmeric, and other things. Proteolytic enzymes taken not near a meal can be helpful.
29837 tn?1414534648 In addition to their usual medication, the first group (G1) received placebo (soy oil), the second group (G2) received fish oil omega-3 fatty acids (3 g/d), and the third group (G3) received fish oil omega-3 fatty acids (3 g/d) and 9.6 mL of olive oil. Disease activity was measured by clinical and laboratory indicators at the beginning of the study and after 12 and 24 wk. Patients' satisfaction in activities of daily living was also measured.
1611670 tn?1306690499 There seems to be way more info out now, than there was years ago. I heard that Riba does better when taken with fats. Flax seed oil capsules good? They have Omega 3. How much fat? Would a small container of whole milk do it? I am grateful to be on Tx and grateful that this forum is here.
Avatar f tn So here are some natural methods to relieve the symptoms of Fibromyalgia Dietary Guidelines -The daily diet should include milled flax seed, 3 or more tbsp., or cold-pressed, unrefined flax seed oil. Flax seed and its oil contain the essential fatty acid omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid, which the body converts into hormone-like substances called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins help relieve the inflammation of fibromyalgia.
