Finger joint tenderness

Common Questions and Answers about Finger joint tenderness

1524304 tn?1326400574 I heard a really loud crack in the joint of little finger and terrible pain. It lasted only for a while but now when I touch the joint it has some mild tenderness and when I try to bend it at certain point I can feel slight pain. There wasn't any swelling, at least not noticeably. So I'm just wondering because there was an incident with stubbing toe and now I believe I cracked it then (several years ago).
1524304 tn?1326400574 For a while they were numb, but it passed when the pain subsided. The next day I noticed sensitiveness along the last joint (the on top) of my pointer. At start I thought there's something stabbed in but found nothing. The other thing I noticed that pointer and middle finger were swollen a bit and I think they still are bit bigger (fingertip area) than same ones on other hand. The sensitiveness comes and goes by the day.
Avatar f tn My middle finger on my left hand hurts when I bend it. In a resting position I am experiencing a throbbing pain. Most of the pain is around the first upper most joint. This injuer occurred when my dog pulled and the leash somehow became entangled around my fingers. How do I know whether it is broken?
Avatar m tn Hi all, i have had aching cramp type pain in my left and right hands for 5 weeks now, after 2 weeks the middle joint in my 3rd finger left hand felt like it had something in it, tight for a bit when i get up in the morning lasts about 5 minutes or so still have full movement can feel slight tenderness when i press on it. or i feel tension on it if i make a fist, no visible swelling and dosent look red or anything.
Avatar n tn But when I am not having flare up i have constant very mild tenderness in my hands and shoulder. My chiropractor thinks it could be mild joint inflammation. Does this kind of achey pain sound like inflammation? If so what should I do to prevent flareups? Any other advice please?
Avatar n tn One and a half weeks ago, I (very uncharacteristically) pulled off a hangnail that was close to my nailbed and fairly deep. Now my finger has a pronounced purplish bump on it and is very hot to the touch. In the past week, it has gotten worse (bumpier, hotter, discolored) instead of better. Also it is painful when anything puts any pressure on that part of my finger. What's going on?
Avatar f tn Look for Deformity or Inability to Move In a finger fracture, you have broken a segment of your finger and it is usually not possible to move it. You may also notice bone deformity such as unusual bumps on the affected finger. Any signs of misalignment are usually indicative of a fracture. Sometimes, you cannot move your finger due to severe swelling and bruising. Could It Be Sprained or Jammed?

Avatar f tn I dislocated my pinky finger 5 weeks ago. From joint to tip was perpendicular to bottom of finger. Was so horrified, I pulled up and put it back in place and iced it, but hurt so badly I went to the ER. X-ray showed no break and they said I did a really good job (straight). Taped it to a splint and told me to ice every 2 hours for 20 minutes and wear splint for 2 days.
Avatar n tn This drainage can also back up into the Eustachian tube behind the ear causing pressure to build up in the TMJ that may appear as a very slight swelling of the joint. Some doctors will think you have an allergy and will treat the "allergy" instead of the eye problem. Since your problem is re-occuring and the allergy meds aren't working very well, it might be a good idea to see the optometrist and get your eyes checked out.
3122407 tn?1342141031 Last week I worked 68hrs and awoke with hypersensitivity to my left hand, only on my palmer side radiating from the tip of my ring finger to my knuckle. The joint was very stiff and tender when bending it. These incidents have happened to my monthly over the year and only on the backs of my legs, soles of my feet, never on the from side. Never in multiple places at one time, always localized. It seems to only be getting worse as the year passes.
Avatar f tn It never showed much of a sign of damage at the time but several months later it began to be sensitive to cold temps and beginning to be tender on the print side of my finger. As the years passed, the tenderness was much worse and I was having pain in my hand, wrist, both my middle finger and pinky. I went to dr's to get a diagnosis, conditions were explored. Carpal Tunnel, RSD, neuroma, and a few other things I can't remember.

Avatar m tn For about 8 months now, I have had swelling and tenderness in the middle finger of my dominant hand. The tenderness and inflammation are in the middle and top joint. Typing and opening bottles tend to cause the most discomfort. There is no pain if my hand is not in use. After about 4 months, I started getting swelling, redness and pain in the ring finger of the same hand. I am 32 years old and spend 3-4 hours typing. The inflammation seems to come and go. No apparent injury.
Avatar f tn This is the jaw joint and inflammation of this joint can cause pain on opening the mouth and tenderness on palpation behind the ear. If you have had a recent throat infection, it could also be a lymph node enlargement. You may need to consult your primary care physician who will examine you and initiate appropriate therapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn if you can move your finger and it hurts when you push it all the way down is it broken.
Avatar m tn Well while I was doing that I guess I hyperextended my middle finger from my left hand and felt and heard a pop on the joint closest to my finger tip palm side, and ten minutes later my middle finger tip went numb and tingly. for the mext 4 days I that same exact area where I felt the pop was sore and tender. I stopped playing guitar immediately and worked lighter on my computer when working. I continued this for 1 month until the tenderness ceased and I was able to play guitar again.
Avatar n tn Sounds like this might be "trigger finger". Does the finger stay down when you open your hand?? There is a simple procedure to repair trigger finger. With just a local shot the doctor cuts a tiny slit in the crease of your palm, then cuts the tube that holds the tendon and releases it. Two stiches later you are good to go. It will take about 6 months for the tenderness to go away. Mine is still a bit stiff but at lease I have full use of it.
Avatar f tn Ear pain may be from the ear itself (ear infection behind or outside the eardrum), jaw joint pain, referred pain from the throat. Tenderness on the earlobe or back part of the ear suggests an outer ear infection. Likewise the ipod earbud problem suggests an outer ear infection. These can occur from local trauma along with bacterial superinfection. See your physician for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Avatar n tn For the last few weeks, I've been having increasingly frequent sharp, stabbing pain under my fingernail on my left index finger. It makes me wince every time. I also have a strange, semi-numb feeling on the palm side of that same fingertip. The fingernail looks nice and healthy. I've had a digital mucous cyst on my right index finger (which was removed surgically but is back almost as big). Both of these fingers have large bumps or swellings on them at the joint closest to the fingernail.
1524304 tn?1326400574 hello! about two weeks ago my left index finger started to hurt. the pain starts in the inner side of middle joint, only when i touch/push on it or move it. there's no significant swelling and no discoloration or bruise. for a week i was taping it, i cut it accidentally and decided to tape it top to bottom. now i took of tape and all (the cut healed) but i still have the pain.

Avatar m tn The left should pain isn't bad and the dull pain comes and goes. my finger (middle finger first joint) is still painful ( maybe a 2 on a scale to 10). Here's the kicker. I just found out my wife (42rs old) has been feeling the same thing in her left shoulder and left hand with some soreness for about two months now. Same spot on the left shoulder, however her pain is on the back side of her left hand near her knuckles. I had my annual physical back in December 2008. My CBC is fine.
Avatar m tn I should note that I still have tenderness in my temple, there is still a bump, and I also would still get pain if I open my mouth wide. Would this be why I'm still experiencing some of the symptoms I've listen above?
382218 tn?1341185087 Within a few weeks she had been to her primary doc and been sent immediately to the ortho surgeon. Infection had invaded the joint at the middle of her index finger. The bone had already been completely destroyed. Her first surgery removed the joint and surrounding infection. She took antibiotics and wore a splint on the painful and useless finger for a couple of months anticipating a joint replacement would be done last spring.
Avatar f tn -Fever, joint inflammation, tenderness, and sharp pain, sometimes accompanied by chills and associated with an injury or another illness, may indicate infectious arthritis. -In children, intermittent fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, and anemia, or blotchy rash on the arms and legs may signal the onset of some types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Other forms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis are associated with joint stiffness, a limp, or joint swelling.
Avatar n tn Six weeks ago while working in my back yard I dropped a large piece of flagstone (about 50 lbs) on my thumb. The brunt of the impact was to the thumb joint, the top of my thumb and thumb nail were relatively unaffected. Needless to say, there was a great deal of pain and swelling from the initial trauma, I noticed a small split in the skin just below the thumb joint shortly after the event. I was not sure if the abbresion was the result of the impact of the rapid swelling of my thumb.

Avatar m tn The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Generally there is no cause. However it can be due to infection, blow, injury, or fibromyalgia. It usually goes away on its own. Otherwise it can be treated with muscle relaxants, and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. It can also be muscle pull. Shingles can also start this way.
