Index finger joint arthritis

Common Questions and Answers about Index finger joint arthritis

finger

Avatar n tn Other possibilities are arthritis-rheumatoid, injury, inflammation of the sac of joint, finger prick, insect bite, allergy or contact dermatitis to something, tendon injury or inflammation, clot in blood vessel, infection of the skin or pulp of the finger etc. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. Take care!
1427077 tn?1282913207 I have a lump on the top joint of my index finger which has been there for about 2 months now. Sometimes its sore but now always & its starting to get bigger. Is it worth getting it checked out?
Avatar f tn I am a 56 years old female and in relatively good health. I take one medication for hbp. Recently the middle joints of my little fingers are very tender, red and tend to be very itchy, if that makes any sense and I've also begun noticing some tiny red nodules at the first joint of my index fingers and little fingers. Some times the nodules are a little more pronouced than other times.
Avatar m tn This flared up about a month and a half ago, and is in the middle joint of my right index finger, the PIP joint. It has gone through cycles of being almost normal to....like today- more swollen and painful than ever. The joint is tight, painful, and has a good amount of fluid over the knuckle. It is a sausage-like finger now. Warming it and slowly working it get some movement back for the day. There seems no rhyme or reason for what flares it up.
Avatar f tn m a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar n tn There is a test to confirm gout which involves removal of fluid from the joint, and having a rheumatologist examine the sample under a special microscope for crystals. Gout is caused by a high level of purines, which are present in a diet high in meat, alcohol, shellfish, and a variety of other foods. You can find more information online. As I said, it may not be gout.
Avatar n tn Recently the base of my thumb started hurting in the joint accompanied with some index and middle finger tremor/twitching. Finally it became annoying enough I went to my orthopedic surgeon. The thumb base was very sore. He said I had arthritis in the joint but wasn't sure what was causing the tremor. I have to preface this; a few months prior to this I would wake up and that hand would be completely numb. However, it is not doing this currently.
Avatar f tn You have probably developed arthritis of the small joint, which can even be rheumatoid arthritis. The other possibility is gout. It can also be a reactive arthritis to some infection in the body. You can dip hands in warm water and apply a local pain killer gel. If it does not help, please consult a doctor immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn About one month ago, the largest knuckle on my index finger(the joint on the actual finger, not the one connecting to hand) swelled up, became stiff and painful. No injury happened prior, nor can I remember a significant one in my life.It is sharply painful when I press between the joint nad on the sides of it. In the last month, it has been both worse and better. Last week it was 90% to be fine in regards to pain and movement. Yesterday it wet to worse than ever.
Avatar m tn Several years ago, I injured my right index finger at the third joint. Now, if I let my hands get cold, suddenly the fingertip becomes death white. I have to warm up by rubbing the tip and use either warm water or blow wam air over for several minutes before color returns normal. Sometimes it feels like I may lose my finger tip altogether as the blood flow does not come back for four to five minutes. It is only on the one index finger. What needs to be done. I am 70 years old.
Avatar f tn It started off one night, I felt a pain in my middle joint of index finger, I started massaging it and it was painful, when I woke up, I had a swollen finger. After few days it increased in size, I had few scratches/sting like pins in the skin in that area, I was put on amoxicillin 2x every 12hrs and after like 4 days it decreased and got back to normal, then a week later it appeared again... it started with pains in the morning and night, but decreasing during the day.
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 Diabetic for 18 years, have joint pain and left index finger crooked, doctor ordered lab test, ESR 55, ANA 1:160, but RF negative, sending me to rheumatology, could I have RA, because my sister has JRA or do I have lupus.
Avatar f tn Arthritis?? Have skiers thumb for about a month. Woke up in morning and index finger on my dominant right hand was swollen and painful when bending. Does arthritis have flare ups or is this permanent..I have a history of psorasis and was wondering if it could be psoriatic arthritis?? Should I keep it exercise or immobilized??
Avatar m tn My right hand middle finger joint (the one between the first and second phalanges seens to dislocate or move out of place when I press it with my thumb. It seens to pop although I can´t hear any sound, unless I´m holding it very close to my ears. It occurs when I press the left side of the joint ( the one closest to my index finger) using my thumb. I don´t know if it is the bone or some kind of ligament or tendon that is actually moving, but I can fell something moves out of place.
1024532 tn?1380058352 I have been experiencing swollen joints in right hand the index and middle finger are also swollen. I have also a stiff jaw and ankles are weak. I also woke up with a stiff neck. I have been tested for RA and thyroid. Gave me a shot in joint of cortizone and I had bad reactions and still swollen and red. I went to ER Monday and they gave me Vicodin for pain. Has anyone else had similar symptons and still negative results on blood work for rhmeutoid arthritis? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr.Santos, Actually the finger that was painful the other day is okay. I mentioned that my index finger was hurting on my left hand to my chiropractor during my regular biweekly adjustment. She gave me an adjustment on the inside of my elbow, she said it was connected to my index finger. After the adjustment, my index finger doesn't hurt any more. However, I do have pain sometimes on several fingers of my right hand, not today though.
Avatar m tn I have developed what I'm pretty sure is arthritis in the last six months, but it's moving so fast I feel I can watch my bones melding together and losing mobility every single day. I keep getting a burning pain in my right index finger joint at my hand. I'm usually on the Hepatitis C board, meaning I see doctors a lot and really don't want to go in for just this, but I'm worried. Is there a way to slow arthritis down or undo the damage?
Avatar m tn Another small disc bulge, some facet joint Arthritis. Mild reactive marrow edema is probably related to soft tissue inflammation. And you have moderate left sided foraminal stenosis caused by arthritis of the facet joints. The foramen is an opening in the spinal column where the spinal nerves pass through. Stenosis is narrowing; the openings are being narrowed by bone spurs or arthritis.
Avatar m tn Wish you had received an answer I have the same symptom. Index finger near the joint with a burning sensation, not when touching it but when carrying a plastic shopping bag or when my purse handles lay across the finger between the first and middle knuckle.
Avatar n tn I have this problem, burning pain between index finger and 2nd finger. I cannot clench my fist unless I straighten index finger then I can make fist with the other three. I have never heard of this before, so if you have no answer I will have to goto.
4982655 tn?1361980727 Arthritis or inflammation of joint that moves from joint to joint (migratory) can be due to Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, rheumatic fever, SLE, HIV, Lyme’s disease, sarcoidosis, Whipple’s disease, Henoch-Schnlein Purpura, bacterial endocarditis and gonoccoccal arthritis. Hashimotos thyroidits is another possibility. It can also be fibromyalgia and or chronic fatigue syndrome. Since it started with great toe it can also be gout. At times an infection can trigger reactive arthritis.
Avatar m tn I had surgery the following day and had 2 pins inserted into my index finger. I had those pins in my index finger for 4 weeks (just had them removed on 1/10/11). I haven't been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...but now my index finger seems to be stuck in that same position (slightly curved, as if holding a cup).
Avatar m tn My thumb, index, and middle finger hurt the most, along with the tendons down my thumb. Since starting antibiotics it has improved slightly but it only got so better. Currently I'm on doxy and omnicef along with many supplements (mainly for my immune system). Will different antibiotics help better? I've tried pain meds as well as joint supplements without any relief. I've heard good things about teasal root and samento helping joint pain related to lyme. Any advice?
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome. It could be arthritis, tendonitis, a dislocation of the joint, related to repetitive motion or any number of things similar. How long has this been going on? what have you used to treat it? Because it seems to be getting worse instead of better, I would suggest you go to the doctor to have it evaluated.
Avatar n tn My right index finger has been swollen for a month now. the knuckle is painful to the touch, but i'm able to bend it. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks for any help!
636562 tn?1223667445 Thank you all for your advice and support! It just gets so frustrating! Right now I'm just doing what I can to keep the inflammation down, putting cold packs on my hand when they get red and puffy and taking breaks after typing for awhile. So far it had only been my DIP joints that were affected, but recently my middle joint (PIP ??) on my index finger has been aching and hurting when I use it. I'm just going to keep pushing until I find a doc who will listen! Thank you all!
