Avatar n tn The brain contains pockets or spaces called ventricles with a spongy layer of cells and blood vessels called the choroid plexus. This is in the middle of the fetal brain. The choroid plexus has the important function of producing a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid produced by the cells of the choroid plexus fills the ventricles and then flows around the brain and the spinal cord to provide a cushion of fluid around these structures.
Avatar n tn Hi, Fused vertebrae are mostly congenital ie it occurs during the early weeks of fetal development though it can manifest at any time after birth. This abnormality is known as Klippel-Feil syndrome http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/40001385/ The most important thing is avoidance of trauma to the part. I would suggest you to schedule an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible and discuss various treatment options which involves surgery as well.
Avatar f tn No its not especially in the first trimester. Rapid development of babies major organs, brain and spinal cord happen in the first trimester. I hear some women have a small glass while pregnant personally I wouldnt but if you were to you should wait at least until the middle of the second trimester. Ask your doctor. It is currently not recommended that any alcohol be taken in while pregnant since FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) is not completely understood on when and how it all happens.
1434024 tn?1329812840 It can be caused by structural defects in the brain and spinal cord that occur during fetal development, whether caused by genetic mutations or lack of proper vitamins or nutrients in the maternal diet." Unquote.. AND.. Quote "It can also be caused later in life if spinal fluid is drained excessively from the lumbar or thoracic areas of the spine either due to injury, exposure to harmful substances, or infection. Avatar f tn Hello Dear, Klippel-fiel Syndrome is caused by a failure in the normal segmentation of the cervical vertebrae during the early weeks of fetal development. Features include a short neck, restricted mobility of the upper spine and a low hairline. Any of the cervical vertebrae can be involved but the commonest fusion is of C2,3 Clinical presentation is varied because of the many associated syndromes and anomalies that can occur.
Avatar n tn my baby is hypotonic since the first day of his life. the doctors did a lot of tests like MRI, Ultra-sound of the brain, muscels and nerves, blood tests, urine test, genetic... all of the tests was negatif. they don't know the cause of this hypotonia. a therapist from eurly intervention comes two times a week to see him and do execises since his first month. now he has four months and he doesn't control his head not yet. and when i put him on his stomack he can't turn his head.
1811847 tn?1327240034 These could cause sensory and motor symptoms, pain, tingling, numbness and weakness of legs. The conus medullaris is the terminal end of the spinal cord and occurs at L1/L2 level normally. There is a mention of cervical thoracic syrinx extending until T12. syringomyelia is the development of fluid filled cavity in the spinal cord. There can be sensory, motor and autonomic deficits due to this condition.
Avatar n tn Through an anterior cervical approach, one can directly address and remove osteophytes and disc material for decompression of the spinal cord. Bone grafts and cervical plates to promote cervical fusion can prevent development of neck instability. Your MRI report shows cervical myelopathy, spinal cord compression, which needs surgical intervention as advised by your neurosurgeon. Physical therapy, pain killers etc have adjuvant role. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn is important to fetal lung development. The fetus gets all of its oxygen and nutrients through the placenta and umbilical cord---a process called fetal circulation. Read more: http://www.livestrong.
Avatar f tn The most critical period of its development is between three and seven weeks after fertilization, when a simple heart tube assumes the shape of a four-chambered heart. In fact, the heart actually begins beating by the 22nd day of life. When you are 5 weeks pregnant, your baby's heart is made up of two tiny channels called heart tubes and they're already hard at work, beating to their own drummer (it will be weeks before those beats become coordinated).
Avatar f tn m 32wks and a FTM and my son has hiccups quite often and was wondering if its normal? I read somewhere that it could be a sign of the umbilical cord could be wrapped around the neck? It occurs after I eat sometimes and then sometimes he just gets them out of the blue. I am the type to worry a lot but im just wondering if anyone else's baby had hiccups a lot?
Avatar m tn The spinal cord ends at T12, just before the lumbar spine, so there are no lesions below the thoracic level. Sometimes a lesion will be seen at the very bottom of the spinal cord in the images taken of the lumbar spine, but it's just because the tech's caught the very bottom of the T-spine to be complete. That's usually where the misconception comes in.
Avatar m tn moderate narrowing or the right lateral recess and right neural foramen with mild narrowing of the right cervical spinal canal. Associated mild flattening of ventral surface of spinal cord. I have not had a chance to go over this with my Doc yet. Can I get some help with what this means?
1412606 tn?1282882129 The treatment for this is the baby to be in the NICU while he or she is weaned off the substance. Apparently, the dose I was on at the time we met (120 mgs of methadone/24 hours) had about a 50-60% chance of causing habituation in a newborn. Now I am on 60 mgs of methadone a day. I did have to stop taking ativan (which I took for sleep) and I had to stop taking nortriptyline (for nerve pain). The nortriptyline, especially, can interfere with limb development.
Avatar f tn I have a 2 vessel cord too and I'm currently almost 28 weeks... my doctor did a fetal echo right after we found out (which was perfect thank goodness) and has been monitoring growth every 4 weeks since we found out.
4163555 tn?1408028522 Yep, im 11wks and they came with my prenatals. I have one a day prenatals.
1431138 tn?1294566894 They actually start to develop the last few weeks of the first trimester. I think 14 weeks is the earliest you may be able to see the sex?
Avatar n tn Dr drew blood to check my hcg levels because he believes im very early in the pregnancy. But calculating the date od conception and start of my laat period, it was about a month ago. What stage/ how many weeks into the pregnancy does heart/brain/organs starr form?
3079363 tn?1363273715 Each individual experiences a different combination of symptoms depending on where in the spinal cord the syrinx forms and how far it extends. Signs of the disorder tend to develop slowly, although sudden onset may occur with coughing or straining. Many disorders share the early symptoms of syringomyelia, which also can occur in association with other conditions.
Avatar m tn degeneration or stenosis at thoracic level (T). By the reason of that nerves from the spinal cord can be irritated causing back pain, sometime weakness in the leg, leg or thigh pain and numbness, tingling. Few persons also face generalized body weakness and numbness due to other nerve irritation on back.
Avatar f tn Autoimmune disease means your immune system is overactive but busy attacking your own organs, brain, spinal cord, whatever the specific disease targets. That is why autoimmune patients catch so many viruses, your immune system is to busy attacking your own body to fight disease. However, it is plenty active. It is very different, for example, in cases of HIV where you are immune deficient and could use antiviral stimulation of your immune system.
403255 tn?1278813266 I love hardboiled eggs. I eat two a day, usually in the mornings along with one to two pieces of turkey bacon. Before pg, I would used to only eat the whites but now, I love the yolk, too. So I did a little research and found that eggs are "an excellent source of choline, a little-known but essential nutrient that contributes to fetal brain development and helps prevent birth defects.
Avatar n tn i had a nonecaceres tumor (ependemoma) removed from my spinal cord on jan/09. during my stay at hospital , lumbard tap was conducted to drain excess fluid from spine, after 8 months of extensive rehab inpatient and outpatient ,my symptons and pain growing rather than reducing, 3 Mri's show consistat with syrinx, however my neurosurgen diagrees with finding and believes syrinx could only develope over years how do you detect mri for syrinx ? I'd appriciate your opinion. thank you D.
Avatar n tn The option of surgery is implicated to stop further damage from compression of occurring, though damage already attained may not be cured as of yet. Other medical options to consider may include the use of steroids to reduce the swelling of the spinal cord, reduce the amount of pain, or decrease the tightness of the muscles (spasticity). Please consult your neurosurgeon for the management . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn Children born with myelomeningocele usually have paralysis or weakness of the muscles below the level of their spine where the defect is. They also may not be able to control their bladder or bowels. They will likely need medical and educational support for many years. The ability to walk and control bowel and bladder function depends where the birth defect was on the spine.
1433143 tn?1283406923 There is a reversal of the cervical lordosis, with a focal kyphotic angulation at C5/6, where there is a large, extruded right paramedian disc herniation, causing right cord compression, and displacement of the cord posteriorly and toward the left. with resultant central stenosis. The disc herniation also has right-sided component, extending into the right anterior recess, and origin to the neural foramen. A radial annular tear is present.
Avatar f tn Ligamantum flavin hypertrophy and discogenic disease at c6-7 with effacement at the right anterior aspect of the cord and residual AP diameter of the central spinal canal of 6 mm. What does this mean? Help anyone?
