There are some issues when using a fibrate along with a statin but the side effect incidence when combining a fenofibrate and statin are extremely low. Are you sure the statin is the cause of the gout? If so then Doctor should recommend change in statin....there are many out there to choose from.

Fenofibrate in combination with a Statin drug can cause severe Rhabdomyolysis. I know because I have gone through it. My muscle pain got so severe that I couldn't even move my arms and I wound up in the ER with kidney (also a muscle) pain so severe, I was climbing the walls.

Are you allergic to Plavix? I'm just wondering why you was put on Effient. I am also confused about your cholesterol drugs, are you now on both fenofibrate and a statin? I wouldn't think so because fenofibrate is not supposed to be mixed with statins. Blood thinners can also react to fenofibrate. If your GP is having trouble controlling your cholesterol levels, maybe he should attack it from both sides instead of just one.

Your numbers are high, but you need to look at the breakdown. First off, your TGL's should be under 150. Not hard, just cut out the empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas etc. Also, drinking will elevate your TGL's so don't over do it. You could start on a Fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGL's it works well. A statin will not really do that much.

Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.

Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.

I understand I NEED to be on something but i've stopped taking my simvastatin as the longer i've been on it i'm noticing my arms are becoming pathetically frail , weak and tiny. I've never heard of high serum cholesterol having any affect on a surgical procedure or the outcome. Having said that, if he's not on a statin they could put him on one before the surgery, if for no other reason then for it's anti-inflammatory properties. Either way, he needs to get the number down. I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot. have about 1/3 of the severity of symptoms that I had on statins. headache, muscle aches. may put up with it and may not. just keepin on keepin on for now. I am not quoting an incidence rate based on friends and family with adverse reactions, I am quoting the incidence rate as found in the 4S study comparing a statin control group to a placebo control group. The statin group reported 1 incidence in 2,220 and the placebo group 1 in 2,223. Also, statins do nothing to the heart or cardiovascular systems so I doubt if they had anything to do with your uncle's condition. The important thing is he recovered.
