Common Questions and Answers about Fenofibrate simvastatin

tricor

315318 tn?1353251800 You may want to ask your doctor about a less powerful statin than Crestor to use along with a fenofibrate, perhaps a generic Zocor (simvastatin) at the same dosage. This may lessen the side effect. The easiest way to control TGLs is to eliminate empty carbs from your diet like breads, pastas and sugars. Also, if you drink, stop as alcohol metabolizes as sugar and has an large impact on serum TGLs.
Avatar n tn i have been taking tri-cor and simvastatin (40mg) for several years. Over the last 8 months i stopped taking the tri-cor because insurance no longer covered it and I decreased my simvastatin to 20mg. At the same time in increased my fiber significantly (metemucil and high fiber cereal daily) and began taking one 1000mg of fish oil each day. Lost a few pounds as well, I'm 41, 5'10" and 173lbs non-smoker.
Avatar m tn Hi I was recently prescribed Fenofibrate to help reduce my high cholesterol levels etc... after a blood test. I have been doing some digging around regarding the drug and it says I should not be taking it if one has Hep B. I haven't found what the reasons are so I was wondering if someone could elaborate why one should not be taking it if one has Hep B. Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar f tn I hear this quite often. Next tie you speak to your doctor ask about Zocor. There is a generic called simvastatin and it is very cheap yet very effective. Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
2085202 tn?1373199740 Hello all. I'm a 26 year old male and have a cholesterol problem with high tryglycerides. I understand I NEED to be on something but i've stopped taking my simvastatin as the longer i've been on it i'm noticing my arms are becoming pathetically frail , weak and tiny. My wrists seemed to have shrunk to the point of where I can cuff my hand over them to a scary point. At first I thought I had a disease of some kind but tests have shown everything is fine.
Avatar m tn You are on one of the more powerful statins so you can ask your doctor about Vytorin which is simple Simvastatin and Zetia which works both in the liver and in the digestive tract. Simvastatin is usually better tolerated than Lipitor. It would help to know what your LDL and HDL levels are as well, we could possibly give you a better answer.
Avatar m tn I have noticed since I began taking fenofibrate that I experience cloudy urine after I eat certain foods. It only happens the first time I uninate after eating these foods and becomes clear thereafter. It seems that it is triggered with creamy and greasy foods. Is there cause for concern? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Fenofibrate in combination with a Statin drug can cause severe Rhabdomyolysis. I know because I have gone through it. My muscle pain got so severe that I couldn't even move my arms and I wound up in the ER with kidney (also a muscle) pain so severe, I was climbing the walls.
Avatar f tn I am on Toprol xl (for high heart rate of 120 or above), venazepril, diuretic, fenofibrate, simvastatin, aspirin, Lantus, glipizide. I have lost 30 lbs since Nov. Lipids are down to normal limits now and I have been walking for my back and sugar. Why if I am on all the right meds and done all the right things is this starting again. What is the point? I don't want to go to the ER again, nor do I want to go through the whole procedure again. What do you suggest.
159619 tn?1707018272 s from Krill Oil and Fish Oil from deep water Salmon and I am on a low dose statin and fenofibrate. One nice side effect of this lifestyle was a significant drop in my BP which is now averaging 108/67 with a resting heart rate in the upper 50s and a heart recovery rate of over 40 beats in the first minute after peak exercise. Trust me, I thought it was impossible to manage these numbers on my own, but it is very much the case.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Avatar f tn My other meds include Toprol XL, benazepril, Furosimide, aspirin 325mg, Fenofibrate, and Simvastatin. I also take a multivit. and Omega3/6 daily. My problem is that although I have lost 30 lbs, brought my chol. down to low normal range, walk everyday, worked hard to get glucose under control, I have now started to see the old angina symptoms coming back! Mostly when I lay down at night or do anything (walking, stairs, etc) right after a meal. Some shortness of breath also.
Avatar m tn my mother,55y, she got her lab result with rising in cholesterol and triglyceride about 3month ago. she started to take fenofibrate 200mg once a day. and now new lab result show normal range of all types of fat. does she need to continue with a maintenance dose of fenofibrate or it isnt necessary?
315318 tn?1353251800 Recently , I was prescribed a fenofibrate (Trilipix 135 mg) along with Crestor. My cardio wanted this for helping in getting my triglycerides down. I have not had a lipid profile done since starting on this med two months ago. However, since being a diabetic , I check my blood glucose (BG) many times during the day and what I am noticing is a clear trend in the BG numbers going lower at least over the last month or so.
Avatar n tn doctor has adviced me to take rosuvastatin and fenofibrate tablets.can you please tell me whether it helps to reduce weight?
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar m tn curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
Avatar f tn I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . I don't know if this is a side effect of the drug I'm taking 40mg a day but feel really achy will this pass .
Avatar n tn Your numbers are high, but you need to look at the breakdown. First off, your TGL's should be under 150. Not hard, just cut out the empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas etc. Also, drinking will elevate your TGL's so don't over do it. You could start on a Fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGL's it works well. A statin will not really do that much.
Avatar f tn Zosta -10) also has the same effect as Storvas 10 mg. I have had cholecystectomy about 5 years back.
Avatar m tn When I go to see all my doctors they say blood pressure is good, but I do have very high cholesterol that they are treating me with medication call fenofibrate 160mg I believe is called.
