315318 tn?1353251800 This is the same staff who prescribed fenofibrate ! I just read about the interaction of fibrates and statins on drugs.com before I saw your message. I had a vague feeling about the interaction and that's why I stopped it yesterday. The other drugs I stopped yesterday were Lamicil for toe fungal infection and caltrate, an over the counter calcium supplement. This afternoon I did go for a walk at a local beach.
Avatar n tn it just so happened I watched an online presentation by some top cardiologists last week, and they agreed that while combining gemfibrozil with statins was generally bad, combining fenofibrate with statins wasn't. The actual full prescribing info for Tricor is at the manufacturer's website: http://www.rxabbott.com/pdf/tricorpi.pdf and that is current (and FDA approved). It seems that the main problem was with fenofibrate and pravastatin.
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar f tn There is no problem with taking a fenofibrate and a statin, it is perfectly safe, I take them both myself. There are possible side effects when taking a fibrate and a statin, you should ask you doctor to be sure.
237039 tn?1264258057 I am familiar with this study and it has a few flaws, the largest one being the size of the control group. There were only 301 participants and of those there were 89 cardiac events. The study (RACED) was designed to follow a sub-set of another study (VADT) which was designed to find the link between intensive glycemic control and vascular disease. These participants were all diabetics with advanced CAD.
Avatar f tn The dose is Rosvin F (fenofibrate 145 mg and Rosuvastatin 10 mg) daily one time. Muscle pain and headache is symptoms.
Avatar m tn I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.
Avatar m tn I just got off of zetia and welchol. I could not take statins. I tried them all. Used to take Niaspan and fenofibrate but they took me off cause both cause problems in some and had not 'reduced the incidence of cardiac events'. I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Avatar f tn 000 units a weeks allopurinol.
237039 tn?1264258057 Last year I had my cholesterol tested after a long stretch without having it checked and my trigs came back at 2174. I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month.
Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.
Avatar m tn It is used in combination with a diet low in cholesterol and saturated fat. Fenofibrate may also be used for purposes other than those mentioned. Fenofibrate is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. You need to follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely. Sideeffects of using fenofibrate are severe stomach pain, muscle weakness, vomiting, fever.
Avatar n tn I took niacin for 20 yrs. I am now 67 and have tried two different popular statins( lipitor and crestor which did lower LDL about 50 pts but also lowered HDL). I could not tolerate either statin because of personality changes ie: anger and irritability all the time and severe cognitive issues with memory, reasoning and being able to focus. After stopping each statin, it has taken me longer to get back to normal mentally.
Avatar m tn It is absolutely true. Links are not allowed or I would post a few, but Google "Statins and Surgery" and you'll see that many doctors are prescribing statins before and after many major surgeries due to their anti-inflammatory properties. Also, statins are being shown to help patients recover from pneumonia as well. They are finding new benefits from statins just about everyday it seems. Again, google and read for yourself, interesting information.
Avatar n tn The bottom line is that statins are very, very safe. The FDA is dropping the warnings about liver damage and looking into others to be removed. There have been NO scientific studies that prove any long term damage due to statins. There are many studies that show the benefit. When in doubt, go to the NIH site, great information along with results of all the studies. Don't be scared off by those that would make money by trying to persuade you to avoid statins.
Avatar m tn my mother,55y, she got her lab result with rising in cholesterol and triglyceride about 3month ago. she started to take fenofibrate 200mg once a day. and now new lab result show normal range of all types of fat. does she need to continue with a maintenance dose of fenofibrate or it isnt necessary?
Avatar n tn My son is 28 yrs old, is 6 foot tall, weighs 170lbs and is very healthy except he has a Triglyceride level of 1200, HDL 27 and cholesterol level of 229. We have the following conditions in our family: Heart disease, diabetes, stroke and thyroid problems.....
Avatar n tn I have a closing carotid artery being treated by statins Crestor 10mg but I find the muscular pain associated with this and other statins unbearable. If I had the operation, which I will have to pay for, what am I buying? Time, a future without statins, or just more of the same¿?
Avatar m tn [12, 76, 78–84] Indeed, in both animal and human models, statins significantly lowered portal hypertension pressure and did not cause any untoward hemodynamic effects, thus improving hepatic perfusion. Moreover, when combined with nonselective beta blockers, the effects of statins were additive.[85, 86] The role of statins in preventing angiogenesis and inducing apoptosis has also been studied recently, perhaps presenting an opportunity for reducing the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Avatar m tn s are easy to lower, cut back on all sugars, breads, pastas and alcohol, that usually is enough. If not, you can try a Fenofibrate which is a very effective drug.
