Common Questions and Answers about Femara side effects medication

femara

216278 tn?1308861082 m on my third round of femara, and had no side effects the first month, but the second and third cycle, I did have a headache on and off for a couple of days. No tummy aches or breaking out, though. BUT, since you took such a high dose all at once, it wouldn't surprise me if the stimulation of the ovaries is causing some crampiness. Like dnikki said, you could always call your doctor and check. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn It is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy. Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness. Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. The benefits of FEMARA in clinical trials are based on 24 months of treatment.
Avatar n tn Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Im 7 years out, stage 1. Im 5 mos. into Femara and starting to feel some unwanted side effects and wondering what to do. I would love to be "drug" free and go on. Do you feel I should continue? Any information would be great. I will be discussing it with my physician shortly. Thanx.
1340383 tn?1309990914 I was on Clomid but asked my RE about Letrozole because I have a friend who got pregnant twice on second round of IUI with Letrozole. RE said it was merely doctor preference. My RE has higher success rates with clomid so that's what he prescribes, but his partner in the same clinic uses Letrozole almost exclusively. I'm sure that wasn't very helpful... but thought I'd share.
Avatar n tn My dream is to put all this behind and carry on with my life but unfortunately the impact of the side effects of Femara on my life are too great and I am finding it is too hard to find a balance and acceptance that life is not any more like it was. I also feel lonely I don't know in which direction to turn, should I try alternative therapies or not? Any way thank you for your reply.
Avatar n tn In the adjuvant setting, commonly reported side effects are generally mild to moderate. Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness. Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. Avatar n tn Well, for me Arimidex was so very horrible, I barely lasted three days on it. I was in an almost catatonic state of depression two hours after I took the first dose, and then got just about every other bad side effect soon after. Femara, in comparison, relative to the other, was not so bad at all and I lasted almost thirty days. But not every woman has the same problems, or any at all. Many though do have some problems.
Avatar f tn I agree, a change in your vision is one of the rare side effects of clomid. Femara is another similar drug that can be used, and usually without as many side effects. If I were you, I would try to talk to the doctor about this as soon as possible. I don't really have any experience with PCOS, but eating better and exercising certainly wouldn't hurt. Good luck to you and I hope you get this all figured out soon!
374593 tn?1257879950 It is impossible to have side effects from a drug with a 2 day half life 1 1/2 years after stopping use. It is either caused by another condition or you are imagining it. Don't post BS on this website when women are already worried and looking for answers.
962875 tn?1314210036 As many of you know or have experienced, the AIs ( Arimidex, Femara, Aromasin), which are used to treat hormone-receptor positve breast cancer, often produce joint or muscle pain as a side effect. For about 20% of women, the side effects are so severe that they stop taking their medicine, which increases the risk that their breast cancer will recur.
1515688 tn?1328151024 Femara is similar to clomid (without the side effects!) and Repronex is an injectible medication. Both require a prescription. I got pregnant with my daughter using the Repronex 9 years ago. My only advice would be to try Preseed (just in case you're like me and don't always get tons of fertile cm), take a prenatal vitamin every day and encourage your husband/boyfriend to also take a multi-vitamin daily.
Avatar n tn Hi Sue, I started Femara 2 days ago. Day #1 after getting up off the sofa after watching tv and reclining I became dizzy. Day #2 had mild strange pain in nipple area of affected breast and same in opposite breast. My bones are strong at this point, & Oncologist said if you start with strong bones you will most likely end with strong bones. I was afraid of damage to my heart after 33 RT's so had an Echo Cardiogram done.
318181 tn?1336443496 For those of you who have tried Femara, what were your experiences? Did it delay O, like clomid can? Any side effects? How well did it work for you?
503702 tn?1276176714 I tried Femara for 3 months and couldn't handle the side effects. So stiff I couldn't get up out of a chair without help, etc. I switched to Aromasin, the newest of the aromatase inhibitors. Still bad side effects. My chiropractor suggested having my estrogen blood levels tested, and trying an experiment. Take Aromasin every other day for a few months, and see if it lowers my blood estrogen level enough. My blood estrogen level (estradiol) is now a *negative* 20!
320424 tn?1205500555 I tried clomid for 8 months and got one BFP but ended in early m/c. So now this cycle (when af shows) I am trying the Femara - less side effects than clomid (I have endo and PCOS). I just read some research on it that my RE gave me and it said it is found not have any side effects on the endometrial lining or CM. So, def. looking forward to that! Good luck and keep us posted!!
Avatar n tn I am doing my infertility work up now and will be going on clomid cycle after next and I have heard so many awful things about the fact that clomid gives you all of these side effects and does famara do the same thing without the side effects?
Avatar n tn hi, i read one of your posts to Jen. You seem to have a handle on all of this. That is good to see. I was diagnosed with bc in 2001. i have, since that time, had numerous biopsies. with each mammo, there is something that has to be checked out. i am now awaiting another biopsy in june for ANOTHER cluster of calcifications. ive had various calcifications checked out and theyve been benign. im starting to freak out again as maybe these new ones are not.
Avatar f tn Hello! yes a lot of us have used it on here, and its worked! i never used clomid though - they did my lap and i was covered in endo : ( ... so femara is particularly good for endo patients.. i produced one or two follicles each time (but i was on the low dose - 2.
Avatar f tn Eventually a few months later I get to an actual fertility specialist. He put me on femara 2.5mg twice a day. I had no side effects from femara, whereas with clomid the side effects were terrible (moody, hot flashes, sore boobs, etc) femara was wonderful compared to clomid! my first cycle on femara I did not ovulate, but on my second round of femara i used hcg injection and got pregnant that way. good luck!!
Avatar f tn I have a question for those of you on femara... is it making yall more emotional than normal? I'm not sure if its just everything that we've gone thru recently and that i'm just tired, but man I feel like i can't hold back tears today, which is so not me! Anyhow just curious if I should blame it on meds or not! haha! thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi, Some women switch between the two drugs depending on the side effects they experience, often women will tolerate one better than the other.. but these two drugs are very similar and both can have similar side effects. I am actually on Arimidex ( almost 2 years) and so far it hasn't been too bad. I have heard of woman who felt better with Femara...so it really depends on how a person can tolerate one drug over the other. I hope that Femara will work better for you. Best wishes..
