Avatar n tn It is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy. Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness. Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. The benefits of FEMARA in clinical trials are based on 24 months of treatment.
Avatar f tn 2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication. Before treatment I was super women and after i began treatment i could barely function.

216278 tn?1308861082 m on my third round of femara, and had no side effects the first month, but the second and third cycle, I did have a headache on and off for a couple of days. No tummy aches or breaking out, though. BUT, since you took such a high dose all at once, it wouldn't surprise me if the stimulation of the ovaries is causing some crampiness. Like dnikki said, you could always call your doctor and check. Best of luck!
374593 tn?1257879950 I was on Femara for 3 months for the treatment of endometriosis and had alot of side effects from the treatment. I could not function.i have been off of Femara for 1 1/2 years and still experiencing side effects from the drug! My endo is back the pain is worse than ever! Doctors don't know much about effects of the drug in premenopausal women. Terrible side effects from Femara....not worth it!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Hi, Some women switch between the two drugs depending on the side effects they experience, often women will tolerate one better than the other.. but these two drugs are very similar and both can have similar side effects. I am actually on Arimidex ( almost 2 years) and so far it hasn't been too bad. I have heard of woman who felt better with Femara...so it really depends on how a person can tolerate one drug over the other. I hope that Femara will work better for you. Best wishes..
495138 tn?1221217880 This is just my opinion of course, but if Clomid didn't work for you, then it would probably make sense to try something different. I took them both and I definitely had less side effects on the Femara and i know it's supposed to be better for your lining and your CM. I would definitely talk to the doctor about it. Femara is really a breast cancer drug, but it's "off-label" use is for Fertility, so I think some doctors don't prescribe it.
Avatar n tn Femara and similar drugs in its class really have musculo-skeletal symptoms as the main side effects. This drug can cause decrease in bone density and bone mass leading to osteoporosis and sometimes increased tendency to have fractures.
Avatar n tn Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
1626928 tn?1378850167 5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
Avatar f tn I didn't even know about Femara until after I had already taken Clomid, so I didn't do any research on it. But from what I understand, Femara has fewer side effects compared to Clomid and it seems to work better for women with PCOS.
1235159 tn?1323009319 It works way better then the clomid I was on it 6 cycles and nothing not one O. Femara has no side effects and helps your linning and makes great eggs. best of luck and tons of Baby dust.
962875 tn?1314210036 As many of you know or have experienced, the AIs ( Arimidex, Femara, Aromasin), which are used to treat hormone-receptor positve breast cancer, often produce joint or muscle pain as a side effect. For about 20% of women, the side effects are so severe that they stop taking their medicine, which increases the risk that their breast cancer will recur.
Avatar f tn Well I have started my fourth month of femara. I haven't really had any side effects with this prescription.
Avatar n tn My dream is to put all this behind and carry on with my life but unfortunately the impact of the side effects of Femara on my life are too great and I am finding it is too hard to find a balance and acceptance that life is not any more like it was. I also feel lonely I don't know in which direction to turn, should I try alternative therapies or not? Any way thank you for your reply.
Avatar f tn I have had no side effects so far from the drugs, and the lining and follicles were all great, so I was told. I am now just on the 2ww now hoping this could be the month. Good Luck and LOTS of Baby Dust!!
Avatar f tn I agree, a change in your vision is one of the rare side effects of clomid. Femara is another similar drug that can be used, and usually without as many side effects. If I were you, I would try to talk to the doctor about this as soon as possible. I don't really have any experience with PCOS, but eating better and exercising certainly wouldn't hurt. Good luck to you and I hope you get this all figured out soon!
749784 tn?1233499310 Only 1/3 of women with estrogen receptor positive ovarian cancer response to Femara so your mom is fortunate in that. I'd stick with it for now since it seems to be working and "save" other treatments in case she needs them. Hope she will not and will continue to do well.
Avatar f tn No personal experience here but after a drug is discontinued it takes various lengths of time for the side effects to subside. You should keep in mind that even though most of the drugs in that class have the same side effects BUT not everyone will experience them all OR to the same degree. Only the switch will tell you how Arimidex will affect you.
Avatar f tn My gyno just placed me on Femara due to severe side effects of Clomid (been off of that for a few months to give my body a break). I'm only 25 and in premenopausal state. I start Provera on Friday. Then on day 3-7 take Femara. I never been on a normal cycle either. My AF's stopped all together in 2009. I had to take Provera every 2 months to have a cycle. My dh and I have been ttc our second child with fail for the past 2 yrs.
