m on my third round of femara, and had no side effects the first month, but the second and third cycle, I did have a headache on and off for a couple of days. No tummy aches or breaking out, though. BUT, since you took such a high dose all at once, it wouldn't surprise me if the stimulation of the ovaries is causing some crampiness. Like dnikki said, you could always call your doctor and check. Wondering if anyone out there has had any of these side effects? And what do you think of this? I am miserable w/all this discomfort. I was on tamoxifen for 5 years and have been on femara for 3. The back pain and joint pain has gotten horrible. I can no longer stand up straight or walk very far. I am 64 and afraid I will no longer be able to walk soon. I stopped femara 4 days ago. I wonder if any else has had this problem with the very severe joint pain, and if it will go away any time soon. The pain and quality of my life is so bad that I am taking the chance.

Im due to start clomid soon and i have to book in for a scan and blood test the scan is to see if you are ovulating and to tell you when the best days to bd on, it is possible for your overies to over stimulate also for ur 1st round 100mg is alot they normally start at 50mg and if no look or you dont ovulate move you up, If your overly concerned or the pain is unbarable id suggest going to you a&e dept but it is normal to have some bloating and some pain as your overies are trying to make m

Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.

t any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..

2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication. Before treatment I was super women and after i began treatment i could barely function.

I didn't even know about Femara until after I had already taken Clomid, so I didn't do any research on it. But from what I understand, Femara has fewer side effects compared to Clomid and it seems to work better for women with PCOS.

My legs and ankles swelled daily. Femara is an Aromatase Inhibitor, and one of the side effects of all of them is bone pain. I am currently on Aromasin, and although it is doing great things for my cancer, it makes my bones hurt all the time. There is certainly no harm in getting checked out by her local doc, but this might ease your mind a bit. Did he also check her Vitamin D level?

I agree, a change in your vision is one of the rare side effects of clomid. Femara is another similar drug that can be used, and usually without as many side effects. If I were you, I would try to talk to the doctor about this as soon as possible. I don't really have any experience with PCOS, but eating better and exercising certainly wouldn't hurt. my OB is trying to do everything she can for us before I have to move on to a more expensive fertility specialist. Ideally she wanted me on Metformin for 3 months prior to the Femara, but I had horrible side effects. I did one round of Clomid and ovulated around CD 14 (but Got strep throat the same week!), so I guess I have been surprised when the femara has done nothing but give me a headache! I was on Femara for 3 months for the treatment of endometriosis and had alot of side effects from the treatment. I could not function.i have been off of Femara for 1 1/2 years and still experiencing side effects from the drug! My endo is back the pain is worse than ever! Doctors don't know much about effects of the drug in premenopausal women. Terrible side effects from Femara....not worth it!!!!!!!

I actually asked my Dr about Clomid when she prescribed Femara, and she said Femara basically does the exact same thing as Clomid but with fewer side effects. And I have to say, my worst side effect has been a few hot flashes. Hubby says that the birth control pill made me more moody than Femara :-) As for the Ovidrel shot, I took Femara from day 3-8 and went back for an u/s on day 10. Follicles were still too small so back again on day 12.

I took fermara and had ZERO side effects from it. I was pleasantly surprised! Good Luck!

For me, the severe joint, leg and hip pain I had (which I also had on tamoxifen and that was one of the side effects they could not control along with hair on fire hot flashes) was more than I could bear. I am off all hormone blocking/AI meds and have been off of them for several months. As time passes the pain seems to lessen and I'm feeling more and more like my old self. I know I am taking a risk but this was a quality of life issue for me and it's my decision with no regrets.

For those of you who have tried Femara, what were your experiences? Did it delay O, like clomid can? Any side effects? How well did it work for you?

I have a question for those of you on femara... is it making yall more emotional than normal? I'm not sure if its just everything that we've gone thru recently and that i'm just tired, but man I feel like i can't hold back tears today, which is so not me! Anyhow just curious if I should blame it on meds or not! haha! thanks!

I tried Femara for 3 months and couldn't handle the side effects. So stiff I couldn't get up out of a chair without help, etc. I switched to Aromasin, the newest of the aromatase inhibitors. Still bad side effects. My chiropractor suggested having my estrogen blood levels tested, and trying an experiment. Take Aromasin every other day for a few months, and see if it lowers my blood estrogen level enough. My blood estrogen level (estradiol) is now a *negative* 20!

Clomid gave me a MONSTER headache for almost 4 weeks, YES 4 weeks!! Femara, LOVED IT!!! Had no side effects and its better on the uterine lining (doesn't thin it out like Clomid), and doesn't create hostile CM like Clomid! Good Luck!

I am doing my infertility work up now and will be going on clomid cycle after next and I have heard so many awful things about the fact that clomid gives you all of these side effects and does famara do the same thing without the side effects?

told me that about the CM so that is good. I am just hoping that this works and I have less side effects than with the Clomid. I hated that stuff but it did get me on beautiful daughter. After a few miscarriages that is pretty good. So here to Femara and no miscarriages!!

I am all but in remission myself from taking an aromotase inhibitor similar to Femara. I tried Femara, but it didn't agree with me, so I switched to Aromasin, which works the same way. If your mother is achieving remission from Femara, then I would ask the 3 doctors recommending chemotherapy why they recommend it. Do you know if her cancer cells are low grade or high grade? If they are high grade, then chemo is more than likely a good choice, side effects and all.

unsuccessfully and like you , had horrible side effects including a thin lining.. I did do a Letrozole a.k.a Femara cycle and though wasn't pregnant..I definitely felt much better than with Clomid....and I have heard a lot of people get success with femara when clomid doesn't work for them!

t thin your uterine lining like clomid does giving an embryo a good chance to be able to implant. Typically Femara has less side effects and is tolerated better. As far as dosage..you'll need to talk to your doc about that. Chances are they will start you on the lowest dose just like clomid and go from there. Most docs want you to take clomis CD 3 - 7, but some say 5 - 9.
