Common Questions and Answers about Excess protein calcium

protein

Avatar f tn -- among the most common causes happens to be cancer, but other causes include sarcoidosis, thyroid disease, adrenal disease, excess vitamin A, among other entities. A PTH-related protein test (some cancers release a PTH like protein) should be done along with serum/urine immunofixation (testing for myeloma - unusual at this age).
Avatar f tn Epikacin is a calcium based agent labelled to promote elimination of excess blood phosphorus associated with canine kidney failure. Unfortunately excess calcium is usually also a result of kidney failure which is why Epikacin has been replaced by Aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide is now the agent of choice to bind and remove excess phosphorus from the blood of dogs and cats in kidney failure.
Avatar n tn That's a lot of D. Personally, I don't take mega doses unless I'm treating something specific. Highest recommended dose just for daily use I've ever seen is 1000 i.u. But since D helps you absorb calcium, it's possible there's a link. More likely, you're not getting enough magnesium, which is common in the American diet and supplementation. Everyone says take calcium and few tell you too much calcium will leach out your magnesium.
Avatar f tn Epikacin was used to bind excess phosphorus which occurs with failing kidneys. Unfortunately, because it contains calcium, it results in excess blood calcium levels which are also very harmful. Today Aluminum Hydroxide (ALOH) is the product of choice, recommended and used by veterinarians that are Board Certified Internal Medicine Diplomats. Aluminum hydroxide is used to bind and removing excess phosphorus from the blood.
468408 tn?1208433009 RDA = 1200 mg for a 24 yr old adult In excess, renal calculi (kidney stones) with specific characteristics can develop, and hypercalcemia with deposits in your joints and soft tissues. Calcium aids bone and tooth formation, maintains blood serum calcium levels, aids blood clotting, aids muscle contraction and relaxation, aids transimission of nerve impulses, and maintains normal heart rhythm. Magnesium: RDA = 250 mg (male), 280 mg (female), for a 24 yr old In excess, can cause magnesemia.
Avatar f tn But I read that blood calcium does not reflect dietary calcium. I realized that it is possible that high dietary calcium cannot be detected via blood testing according to Dr. Ronald Roth (from over 30 years of research): "Intracellular and Serum levels of nutrients represent different physiological and pathological processes. Abnormal levels seen in one medium are not necessarily reflected in the other, so they need to be interpreted differently.
Avatar f tn Some supplements that do appear to be beneficial include Vitamin D, Calcium, and Fish Oil. Probiotics and Whey Protein can be helpful as well. Some food "supplements" include pine nuts and flaxseeds. It's very important to discuss any supplement use with your doctor to make sure they're right for you and don't interact with your medications. Take care!
Avatar n tn Ounce for ounce, kale contains more calcium than milk, and the calcium is more absorbable by the body. Calcium from kale is easily assimilated, making it a wonder food to protect against arthritis.
Avatar n tn The Epikacin, which is currently made and marketed by the same company that markets the Azodyl is an outdated drug formerly given to help bind and remove excess phosphorus levels on dogs with kidney disease. Because Epikacin is calcium based, and excess calcium levels are another very detrimental side effect that dogs often experience secondarily to primary kidney disorders.
Avatar f tn This happens due to excess amino acids in sweat (which are breakdown products of protein), seen common with a high protein diet. Also if the diet is rich in cheese, then a bacteria of staphylococcus type acts on the sweat and causes this smell of vinegar. Hence to avoid this smell you would need to carefully look at your diet and lower the protein and cheese content in it.
Avatar f tn The reason that I ask is that uncooked egg white contains a protein that is a trypsin-inhibitor. This protein effectively decreases the ability to digest and absorb protein. (Most people think avididn, which inhibits biotin utililzation as the major problem with raw eggs, when in effect, the trypsin-inhibitor can cause more serious problems if enough raw eggs are fed).
Avatar n tn t use it, which can lead to fat gain. Excessive protein intake can also lead to dehydration and calcium losses. Also get your protein from lean whole foods like chicken breast, fish. Avoid protein sources that are high in saturated fat, such as fatty red meats and fried meats, as saturated fat raises your cholesterol and increases your risk for heart disease. If you go to my journal you will see a list of smoothies and protein bars.
Avatar f tn If you have too much calcium you actually deplete your magnesium. And when magnesium levels get too low, the heart rhythm is affected. "Magnesium deficiency can cause muscle weakness, tremor, and spasm. Your heart is a muscle. If you get a spasm or tremor in your heart, you’re in trouble. In fact, magnesium deficiency can cause arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, irregular contraction, and rapid heart rate.
Avatar m tn does excess protein intake (like eating excess tuna fish) increase liver enzymes ast and alt?
1333621 tn?1280720842 s also recommended that you not take calcium within 4 hours of thyroid med, but I do use milk on my cereal, eat yogurt, etc - I suspect that if you are eating foods with calcium you would be okay, unless you are taking in hundreds of milligrams all at once. I think the main culprit is calcium supplements that have up to 600 mg calcium per pill/capsule. I avoid all soy, if possible. Maybe you could switch to beans/legumes for protein? Or eggs? Cheese?
Avatar f tn t say you have an excess of calcium as those little specks do occur normally within breast tissue ... when they are observed in groups or clusters they are an indication of the reaction of breast tissue to an abnormality.
Avatar m tn To prevent memory loss when a person has diabetes, one should change their diet to include foods with fiber, protein, and calcium that will stimulate blood flow and also help replace some of the nutrients lost. Exercise will also promote blood flow. Walking is an excellent exercise that does not put excess strain on the body, joints or limbs and helps to reduce glucose levels.
Avatar f tn My vet decided to put her on Epakitin (3/4 a gram twice a day) to absorb excess phosphate and Rehmannia 14 to stabilize kidney function I don't really know if Rehmannia 14 is a good idea or not. After a lot of research I've only found that it is commonly used for Cushing's Disease (which my cat doesn't have) & a kidney disorder that involves heating and cooling of the kidneys (which also isn't what my cat has). I don't see how it will stabilize her kidneys...
Avatar n tn First, even though I have this monoclonal protein would it still be possible for the parathyroid to be causing the high calcium levels? Second, If it was the monoclonal protein or myeloma causing the high calcium levels wouldn't the PTH level be very low?
Avatar f tn the current recommended daily intake of protein is 46 grams for women aged 19–70 Any excess protein consumed is turned into energy by the body, and it is controversial whether this excess protein causes a strain on the liver. A deficiency in protein leads to muscle atrophy, and impaired functioning of the human body in general. low sodium Parmesan cheese provides the most protein with 41.
Avatar f tn Certain muscle cramps are caused by acidity. That's why calcium & magnesium help. Do you have rectal itch or burning eyes or ears? If so, you are overly acidic. Take plant based calcium & magnesium malate. Excess Sun exposure produces excess D3 . The D3 strips calcium from muscles and that's why you wake up with severe cramps. Shower right after being in the sun. Take extra calcium if in the sun and throughout the day and before bed. Cut back on phosphates.
