Common Questions and Answers about Excess protein kidney

protein

Avatar n tn A serious body builder eats six times a day, so taking extra protein is hardly likely to cut into nutrients. However, body builders can pay a severe price by trying to get bigger. We've seen this with speed to help them endure longer workouts, steroids, and too much protein, which promotes kidney damage.
5889951 tn?1380316047 Protein Excess protein in your urine can be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI), kidney damage, or certain other disorders. Later in your pregnancy, it can also be a sign of preeclampsia if it's accompanied by high blood pressure. If you have protein in your urine but your blood pressure is normal, your sample will be sent to the lab for a culture to see whether you have a UTI.
1527017 tn?1291671470 This is what I know about protein urine testing. Urine protein testing is used to help evaluate and monitor kidney function, and to help detect and diagnose early kidney damage and disease. If the level is high, the doctor may order a secondary test to determine which proteins are being excreted and in what quantities. Greater than 1200 appears high. However, rereading your post I am unsure if you are mixing the tests urine protein against urine keytones?
Avatar f tn Epikacin is a calcium based agent labelled to promote elimination of excess blood phosphorus associated with canine kidney failure. Unfortunately excess calcium is usually also a result of kidney failure which is why Epikacin has been replaced by Aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide is now the agent of choice to bind and remove excess phosphorus from the blood of dogs and cats in kidney failure.
187666 tn?1331173345 Avastin can cause protein to be excreted through your kidneys...I'm on Avastin now and have to have my urine checked before every visit for excess protein. Other than that, I don't know that it can impair kidney function... I suppose though, that any chemo could potentially damage your kidneys. I don't remember seeing that listed as a side effect though... Hope this helps..
Avatar m tn However, while CPAP may lower BP during the night [preventing the adrenalin rush to breath by forcing you to breath], my high BP was attributed as the cause for my kidney misfunction of leaking too much protein into the urine. Here inlies the issue. Is the excess protein leakage being really caused by the high BP, or is it being caused by, or augmented by increased gas pressure that is caused by the aerophagia?
Avatar n tn The symptoms vary depending on the organ effected. In general, kidney disease (causing excess protein in urine), cardiopulmonary disease (breathlessness is common presentation), increased size of liver, pain in the hand and wrist, unexplained diarrhoea, fatigue, memory loss and other symptoms are seen.
Avatar m tn The exact numbers depend on a variety of factors such as medical history, symptoms present and how the kidney functions- the creatinine and GFR levels. Proteinuria in excess of 3.5 g per day warrants further evaluation by a kidney specialist to rule out nephrotic syndrome. Additional diagnostic tests such as glomerular filtration rate, renal ultrasound, and possible intravenous urography and serological screening for autoantibodies and complement level. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn My vet decided to put her on Epakitin (3/4 a gram twice a day) to absorb excess phosphate and Rehmannia 14 to stabilize kidney function I don't really know if Rehmannia 14 is a good idea or not. After a lot of research I've only found that it is commonly used for Cushing's Disease (which my cat doesn't have) & a kidney disorder that involves heating and cooling of the kidneys (which also isn't what my cat has). I don't see how it will stabilize her kidneys...
Avatar n tn s defenses). on the other hand, high protein diet also has its negative side, it can result to kidney troubles and accumulation of ammonia and other substances that are harmful in our body. the real secret here is BALANCE DIET. NOTHING IN EXCESS because too much of something (even if it's good) is still bad. try to see a nutritionist or dietitian for your diet diet counseling.
Avatar n tn What are the symptoms you have been having? In kidney disease there would be excess fluid in the body, difficulty breathing, excessive lethargy, and confusion etc.You may need other blood tests like hemoglobin estimation, white cell *****, serum electrolytes, ultrasound etc to detect if you are suffering from kidney problem. A clinical correlation of test results is important. Do consult a nephrologist and keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn We have also had excellent results with a natural herbal kidney product called Kidney Essentials available at www.drcarol.com. This has lowered BUN and Creatinine levels within in 30-60 days in many older dogs with kidney failure. Epikacin is an outdated calcium based product made by the same company marketing Azodyl. Epikacin was used to bind excess phosphorus which occurs with failing kidneys.
Avatar m tn What are you trying to accomplish? Get some exercise, or look a certain way? Unless you're a professional bodybuilder who will make a ton of money doing this, it's a bad idea for your health. Of course you're free to do what you want with your body, but as this is a nutrition forum, it's unlikely any of us will encourage you to overdo anything. Now, what are these downsides?
Avatar n tn The Epikacin, which is currently made and marketed by the same company that markets the Azodyl is an outdated drug formerly given to help bind and remove excess phosphorus levels on dogs with kidney disease. Because Epikacin is calcium based, and excess calcium levels are another very detrimental side effect that dogs often experience secondarily to primary kidney disorders.
Avatar f tn s (beer has a lot of carbs and sugar). According to one book I read a high protein diet can cause excess protein in your urine and cause stones which are never fun. I have frequent kidney problems since they are malformed, and so I have found one GREAT TRICK with juice that will prevent an infection if it is done when you first feel irritation (before the infection has set it). Throughout the day I drink only water and cranberry juice, watch the sugar intake, but the rest of my diet is normal.
483733 tn?1326798446 Other conditions can be SLE(an autoimmune disease) and edema(fluid accumulation in the body. It can be caused by reduced kidney function, chronic kidney disease, congestive heart disease, varicose veins, phlebitis, protein or thiamine deficiency, sodium retention, or cancer). If you are feeling it to be an allergic reaction to wine, then it may be due to allergy to sulfites.
Avatar n tn He or she may recommend a urine analysis, which can detect protein in urine. If protein is detected in your urine, your doctor likely will recommend additional tests to determine the cause." www.mayoclinic.com/health/foamy-urine/AN01702 Have you noticed whether there has been a change in the disinfectant used in the flush since the time you started noticing the foamy urine? Was there any protein detected on your urinalysis? Have you noticed any change in urine color?
Avatar m tn foaming in urine, protein and blood are all signs of kidney disease. I have stage 3 and all those symptoms. HOWEVER, kidney disease doe not cause the body to shrink or hair fall out!!!!
Avatar m tn 4.82? What is that? What I meant was, do you have microscopic hematuria apart from your elevated protein level in urine? I could be wrong, please correct me if I am. I think your slightly decreased GFR and the elevated level of protein indicate certain kidney damage. I don't know much about the enlarged prostate, but it shouldn't affect kidney function as far as I know. Don't worry too much.
Avatar f tn You may also need 24 hours urine test, random protein to creatinine ratio to check the kidney status and a serum and urine protein electrophoresis test to determine which proteins are being excreted and in what quantities. Sometimes, some proteins will appear in the urine if the levels of protein in blood become high, even when the kidney is functioning properly. I suggest you to discuss these investigations with your urologist and get them done. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
1531001 tn?1292034237 s not the amount of protein you have to watch but the source of the protein and the keeping the level of phosphorus down. I am presently feeding Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato (kibble and canned). He is also on Pepcid twice a day and on a BP med once a day to try and keep the pressure down in the kidneys. I have also picked up some green tripe, as that is good for them and actually recommended in some kidney diets. It stinks like heck!! LOL!
Avatar m tn does excess protein intake (like eating excess tuna fish) increase liver enzymes ast and alt?
Avatar f tn I drink whey protein and use it for cookies, I also eat protein bars.
