Avatar f tn There have been numerous studies concerning the etiology of asthma, but the effect of asthma on the epidemiologic characteristics of other chronic diseases has been relatively underinvestigated. There have been studies that assessed the relationship between asthma and chronic conditions (ie, proinflammatory conditions), such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA),7–9 inflammatory bowel disease (IBD),9–12 diabetes mellitus (DM),8,9,13–16 and coronary heart disease (CHD).
Avatar m tn It could also be a referred type of pain originating from other source/s. As for the frequency in urination, most of the time, the initial urinalysis will already reveal the cause. If it turned out to be negative, I think there is a need to investigate further what caused the symptom. Again, there are a lot of causes for this symptom, ranging from urinary tract infection to systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus, or even an emotional etiology.

596539 tn?1219982139 Hepatitis C virus (HCV) causes liver diseases and extrahepatic manifestations, and also contributes to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). The aims of the present study were to examine the incidence of extrahepatic manifestations including lichen planus in HCV-infected patients and to evaluate the relationship between lichen planus and insulin resistance. METHODS: Of 9396 patients with liver diseases presenting to the study hospital, 87 patients (mean age 60.0 +/- 11.
Avatar m tn 6 (10.5%) had normal liver, 3.5 % (2) had Type 1 or 2 and 86% (49) had Type III or IV. One of these had cirrhosis. IR was evaluated in 102 patients. It was correlated with moderate and no alcohol intake in 81.3% and 78.7% cases respectively (p<0.05). In patients with light alcohol intake 54.8% did not presented IR. CONCLUSIONS: Light-to-moderate alcohol consumption was not associated with the severity of NAFLD in obese patients.
Avatar f tn Aims (1) To assess the association of diabetes mellitus (DM) in HCV patients to the severity of hepatic fibrosis and to the response to antiviral treatment. (2) To assess the safety of pegylated interferon and ribavirin combination therapy (Peg IFN/RBV) in diabetic HCV patients. Methods HCV diabetics (n = 61) were identified. A 2:1 matching control group was used to identify independent factors of advanced fibrosis and treatment failure.

179856 tn?1333550962 -------------------------------------- Higher HCC risk with increased insulin resistance in hepatitis C patients May 12, 2010 Recent studies have demonstrated that type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with high risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development in patients with chronic hepatitis C. Insulin resistance (IR), which correlates inversely with circulating adiponectin concentration, is a consistent finding in patients with type 2 DM.
26471 tn?1211940121 Sutapa Banerjee, Kousuke Saito, Malika Ait-Goughoulte, Keith Meyer, Ratna B Ray, Ranjit Ray Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has a significantly increased prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Insulin resistance is a critical component of T2DM pathogenesis. Several mechanisms are likely to be involved in the pathogenesis of HCV related insulin resistance.
Avatar n tn for example, we found no cases of seronegative infection among either 342 healthy blood donors (J.T.S. and L.K., unpublished data) or 102 individuals with diabetes mellitus but without history of liver disease [4]. </em> It's also interesting that these developments are not all that new. <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?
Avatar f tn Anyway, that's what rumpled says on the pituitary group. She should know. Yes, she is right that there is diabetes insipidus (not diabetes mellitus). diabetes = polyuria mellitus = sweet, the urine actually attracts flies which is how it was discovered insipidus = tasteless, like a insipid meal DI is lack of Anti Diuretic Hormone (ADH). But again, there are the H4 receptors in the pituitary. 8) Have you had OGTT for blood glucose? 9) Do you have bad allergies? Bad reaction to bee stings?
Avatar n tn Now, after donating blood to the Red Cross they sent me a letter stating that although I tested negative for any type of Hepatitis, my ALT level was above the cutoff of 120. My ALT level was 144. So now I am not allowed to donate blood ever again in my life. I have diarrhea every day, not loose bowels, diarrhea. Abdominal pain. Sometimes severe in the upper right quadrant. Pain is debilitating when it occurs. Pain medications don't give any relief.
181575 tn?1250202386 I am reposting articles / summaries on the treatment management of chronic HepB. "cajim" located these articles which are quite informative. I thought about putting them on a seaprate Health Page but didn't think it was appropriate since we didn't write them. Let's make this a sort of "Unofficial Research Thread" or "URT" for this type of information. Let's keep this URT free of comments.
Avatar f tn Hi you can do a search for fatty liver with hcv.
Avatar m tn Here's how to access the abstracts at Liver Meeting 2008. A list of all abstracts under the heading of "viral hepatitis" will follow. Not sure if late breaking abstracts are included. (1) Go to: http://www.aasld.org/Pages/Default.
Avatar f tn I've had similar episodes, off and on, for about 20 years. I had one today...which is why I'm on the board. Starts in the shoulders...I can feel it coming on...after a few seconds, heads quickly down one or both arms. Weakness and heaviness - and I liked someone's analogy to having a tight cuff on the arm. It lasts a minute or so. Feels like longer!
