Avatar m tn Our aim was to investigate the efficacy and safety of etanercept as adjuvant to interferon and ribavirin in treatment-naive patients with HCV. METHODS: Double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled trial. Fifty patients with chronic HCV were randomly assigned to receive interferon alfa-2b and ribavirin with either etanercept or placebo for 24 weeks. The main outcome measure was the absence of HCV RNA at 24 weeks, the on treatment response at the end of the etanercept randomization period.
Avatar n tn Can a perispinal etanercept injection help heal severe pain linked to the piriformous muscle?
Avatar m tn Hi! Well, peri spinal etanercept is a relatively new therapy for sciatica type of pain. However, as with any new therapy, it has its success and failure stories. It is however known to penetrate the spinal fluid and cause rapid relief in pain. The negative side is that there is no pain relief (which actually cannot be a negative side as you are already in pain). As a note of caution: this mode of drug delivery with etanercept is still in late experimental stage.

Avatar f tn My husband has ankylosingspondilitis and takes enbrel injections and has considered taking methotrexate before. Best of luck. Could be a real blessing from God :) and a healthy baby!
Avatar n tn I have been on methotrexate for over 20 years and also have been on etanercept (enbrel) but now am only on methotrexate, celebrex and infusions of rituxan every 6 months. I read about all the adverse reactions of all the meds I take and these have never been associated with either of your meds. it could be the vitamin d and calcium deficiencies. best of luck to you.
Avatar m tn Understand your predicament. Tuberculosis can produce typical symptoms and signs in the eyes. This further correlated with blood tests, which show a raised ESR and lymphocytes. Again skin tests like PPD will help with the diagnosis. If there is a collective evidence of tuberculous infection, then therapy is mandatory. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Bibasilar means the Left and Right bottom part of the lung are partly collapsed or the lobe and it can be due to mucus or medications taken for asthma and other problems. At least this CT says it is not Cancerous so it doesn't sound like you need a biopsy at this point. I don't know if they can tell by the CT scan what TB would look like. Usually, they know if it is active by the Xray and bother with a CT. But that doesn't solve the issue of whether you had been exposed.
Avatar f tn SHe prescribed him with QVAR and Flonase and wants to see him back in 6 weeks. So my question, could he have caught TB from this guy that spit on him? Or am I over reacting? Thanks!
1807132 tn?1318743597 My boyfriend's mother may have TB. She came home from Mexico and about 4 or so days later started to feel sick. She did not seek medical help for almost 2 weeks. While in the hospital they ran a skin test and a first sputum test that came back negative for TB. They sent her home diagnosed as viral pneumonia but then called and said the 2nd sputum test was positive. They are awaiting a 3rd sputum test to definitively diagnose it as TB.

My questions are: 1) Am and I and my family at risk for this infection? 2) Should we go be tested for TB? 3) Is Tuberculosis curable (I am allergic to penicillin)? 4) Is there a chance that I could die?
Avatar f tn No. Tuberculosis, MTB or TB (short for tubercle bacillus) is a common and in some cases deadly infectious disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria, usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis in humans.[1] Tuberculosis usually attacks the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body. It is spread through the air when people who have an active MTB infection cough, sneeze, or otherwise transmit their saliva through the air.

Avatar m tn Background/Aims Current therapies for patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) do not achieve sustained viral clearance in most patients, and are associated with severe toxic effects. Avatar m tn Hello, PTB left upper lobe means pulmonary tuberculosis of the left upper lobe. Pulmonary tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and it can lead to infection in the lungs, skin, bones and brain. A person suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis needs to take antituberculous treatment for 6-9 months. Before labeling anybody as suffering from tuberculosis other tests like TB PCR, sputum AFB test and HRCT chest may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn It is transmitted from person to person via droplets from the throat and lungs of people with the active respiratory disease. Tuberculosis can cause an evening rise of temperature and increased sweating. This also causes a loss of appetite; as such this is accompanied by weight loss. In addition it can cause cough with expectoration and sometimes breathlessness. Regards.
Avatar f tn Have come across few case studies stating that many patients with recurrent abscess and IGM were tested for Breast Tuberculosis and came out negative. But when these patients were treated with anti TB drugs it did cure them after 6-9 mths. I'm planning to go for this route in India after doing all the tests all over again :( ... Has anyone heard of this?? Please share any info you have on this...
