Avatar m tn We use the FDA and CDC approved testing guidelines. Freedome health is in the UK and have different guidelines. Dr.Hook and Dr.HHH have real world testing experience and are confident to give other time lines on testing.
Avatar n tn m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Avatar f tn This weekend was horrible, I had two reaction to the water, on friday it was with rain, and had to give me 2 shoots of Epipen, and than I was better but shaking badly from the Epipen, and yesturday just by sweat I did a reaction and again the Epipen but just once, and I didnt even went to the hospital after, his that dangerous if I dont go???? And his it dangerous I have to many shoots?????
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
Avatar m tn Been doing some more research, and it looks like the UK is adjusting their PEPSE guidelines. Is that where you source your information? Again, I am not looking to start a fight, I am just trying to understand your information sources. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I do hope that the treatment guidelines she was referring to were ILADS treatment guidelines. The IDSA guidelines leave way too many people sick.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
Avatar f tn The UK guidelines for PEP say that you should take a test - 4th generation is standard in the UK - at 3 months after PEP - not after exposure but after PEP. There is evidence that taking some types of antiretroviral medicines - HIV meds - will work as a protecton against getting new HIV infection. So it is likely that if you did not pick up HIV on the first occasion then it will have hopefully been averted on the second occasion.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the clarification this was a really good reply. I got it now. Just one thing i am still confused is you said you follow FDA & CDC guidelines here and you give me UK BHIVA guidelines too but if you go on their websites they consider everything a risk including oral sex let alone fingering. Can you please tell me who decides what guidelines to pick from them and what to ignore? I know you will not like this but really if you are rational and objective then it makes sense doesnt it?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply getitright. I was reading the UK guidelines and they state that a 4th gen test will pick up the majority of infections by 4 weeks where as a 3rd gen would by 6 weeks. I found that info highly reassuring but was advised to test at 12 weeks for conclusivity. The clinic only advised 6 months in cases of PEP. I really felt good with my 18 week result but can't help thinking 'what if' etc...

Avatar m tn Doctors in the Uk have been using the DUO test for years but official UK guidelines still say 3 months--there are no shortcuts as far as hiv window periods are concerned.
Avatar m tn the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV and the British Infection Society have published new testing guidelines for HIV in the UK. The consensus advice recommends the use of an HIV DUO test (4th generation combination antibody and p24 antigen) as a first line test because it has the advantage of reducing the window period to one month (28 days). visit: http://www.bhiva.org/cms1222621.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I have recently had an Antibody test in the UK at a NHS clinic at 13 weeks and 4 days after a possible exposure, the result was negative, however a advice line here in the UK advised me that my result isnt 100% relaible as a small number can take upto 6 months to have a conclusive/reliable result is this true?
