Epipen and benadryl

Common Questions and Answers about Epipen and benadryl

epipen

Avatar f tn You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
Avatar n tn I have a friend who says she uses Benadryl for her allergies to ants and bees rather than an epipen because of the cost. I don't think I'd feel safe doing that, though. Again, thanks a bunch!
230262 tn?1316645934 Hi Ohio: It's my experience and to my knowledge, once you've had a strong allergic reaction to something, yes, it will accelerate. And NO! Epipens are not expensive. I use Benadryl as my first line of defense once a reaction starts. Many times it works and I don't have to use the Epipen. I hate the way the Epipen makes me feel. So do ask your doctor. I don't want to scare you but severe allergic reactions can be a serious problem.
Avatar m tn Hi, as your symptoms are improving with benadryl and cortisone, it could most probably be due to an allergic reaction. Also, as your symptoms worsen during the day another probability is frontal sinusitis, gravity helps drain secretions from this sinus so the symptoms usually worsen as the day progresses. Please check with your doctor regarding this and continue with your allergy shots. Good luck with your therapy. Regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
1322157 tn?1279656681 Once he got a bite from a sweat bee, and it swelled up so bad and scared the crap out of me so I gave him 2 kids benadryl and made him sit right beside me and I had the EPI pen out and ready to go. the bite started to go down never had to use the EPI pen thank god. but that really scared me and the benadryl helped him. His EPI pen is mostly for bee stings and food allgeries, I have one at home in my purse at all times and the school also keeps one there.
Avatar f tn I took some benadryl and the sore throat/ drip went away. Later in the morning I started experiencing diarrhea. Nothing horrible, but it made me decide to go to urgent care. They said it was an allergic reaction and prescribed an epipen. I declined because I have no insurance. Since then I've seen another doctor who thinks its hsv 1. However I have not had any of the other symptoms of hsv. I've not had blistering, swollen glands, flu like symptoms. Any of that.
Avatar n tn I was swollen within seconds and was confused and turned pale. I stuck myself with the epipen and called the ambulance. I was in the hospital for two days while they worked on me. The doctor said the epipen saved my life. He also said if you have pvc's the epipen poses little threat as the allergic reaction is much more serious. When I stuck myself my heart rate shot up and i could feel the pvc's jumping.

Avatar f tn She put a wet facecloth on my face and it was red a swollen, and my saturation was going down, had angioadema, hard time to breath, and some blood test too, If I go in the water in a acute reaction I would die she said, and to relief the symptoms his to take my epipen and some Benadryl, Reactine and Zantac, and sometimes Atarax.
Avatar m tn My lips may or may not itch and my throat may start to swell. Twice I went to the ER and the other times oral Benadryl alleviated the symptoms. The allergist question if two foods combined would be the culprit. I have eaten all of these foods my entire life. Nothing has changed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I now carry an EpiPen in the event the Benadryl does not work.
Avatar f tn 2 nights ago I went to dinner with friends , immediately after eating I felt so bloated , I hurt, within the next few hours, my neck started to hurt and I developed a migraine headache, finally I threw up and within an hour, my symptoms were gone. Do you know if this garlic smell could be an allergic reaction also??
Avatar n tn I'm having the following symptoms whenever I ingest certain types of food: the inside of my mouth (cheeks/tongue) swells and it's painful to swallow. It started out happening everytime I ate something with mayonnaise. But I just recently had a reaction within 35 minutes after eating Lay's salt & vinegar potato chips and on another occasion, I haven't been able to pinpoint the food source.
Avatar f tn In Jan I traveld out of the US to the dominican republic. Two days upon my return I broke out in hives. This was before eating breakfast. My allergist gave me allegra 180mg twice a day, a medrol shot and I had taken benadryl. The bloodwork showed an IGE level of 1400 but didn't specify the allergen. In March I began having shortness of breath and was hyperventilating., From there I had chronic diahrea. I had fatigue for weeks.
Avatar n tn s amazing how many doctors are not aware of the link between hashimotos and hives...and you can still have elevated antibodies with a normal thyroid panel. This discussion is related to Is there a link between Hashimoto and Chronic Urticaria????.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is known to act on the uterus through beta 2 receptors and can cause relaxation of the uterus. At term, it can prevent the contraction and delay the labor. I suggest you to consult gynecologist for further information. Take care and regards.
1984089 tn?1349482899 Not during pregnancy but I developed an allergy to apples since the birth of my first child. It's definitely a good idea to ask your doctor but I have started carrying a dose of Benadryl in my purse just in case of unexpected reactions.
Avatar f tn I don't know if this will help, but my boyfriend started suffering from random swellings a couple of years ago. The first was his tonsils, but he's since had swellings on his lips, tongue, face, back, arms, hands, stomach, legs, knees, feet... sometimes it'll start in one place and move to the other, eg. left side of face to right side. He's been to allergy specialists and had blood tests, but they can't find a cause, and the only trigger they found was stress.
Avatar n tn S I have to use the Epipen too, I have no choice, and Im a nurse and I know the side effects of the Prednisone I gave it to so many patients....
Avatar f tn Hi, Pine nuts (piƱon) are the edible seeds of from the family Pinaceae. The pine bears seeds in cones and the cones that open upon maturity and spread their seeds are usually the female pine trees. The seed itself is almost entirely endosperm. The cedar nut is the seed of the Swiss pine. 645800 tn?1466860955 In the interim you need to have something like Medic Alert who could not only notify the paramedics, but could possibly notify someone around you who could come to your aid. You should teach everyone in your family how to use the EpiPen and all your close (in proximity and other) friends. There are also personal alarms that will sound shrilly if activated. That could alert family and neighbors.
Avatar f tn Then came the shivering and nausea and worse, difficultly taking a deep breath. Thankfully my hairdresser had Benadryl and knew the symptoms. The benadryl helped correct the symptoms. My scalp feels really tight still. Curious, will you be bleaching it again in a few weeks?
Avatar f tn It gets very hot and bright red and stays there for 1-3 hours and then returns to its natural pale color. This usually happens a few times a week. It doesn't seem to be affected by temperature and I haven't been able to correlate it to anything else. The skin itself itchy and doesn't feel dry ... or anything besides really, really warm. Have you heard of anything like this before? Should I be worried?
