Eczema cream over the counter

Common Questions and Answers about Eczema cream over the counter

Avatar n tn He also prescribed Westcort (a higher strength cortisone cream than those available over the counter) to stop the itching, Atarax (an oral medicine to also help with the itching) and had me occasionally soak in Balnatar (sp?) a brown oil. All were prescription except for the Alpha Keri (to my knowledge). Pat dry after bathing, don't rub dry. As I got older, I used Dove or Oil of Olay soap daily. He now recommends that I use Cetaphil to bathe with if I flair up and Lubriderm to moisturize.
9807151 tn?1406765659 My husband as this and right now we can't afford to take him to the doctor to get cream for him. But they do have stuff over the counter you could try.
784419 tn?1236265356 It affects the insides of my ears and the skin immediately surrounding. Over the years I've tried every over- the -counter cream and any number of prescription treatments. I get relief from the itching for about a week, then it starts again. Every few months, the dryness reaches the point at which the skin around my ears becomes cracked and begins to weep. This leads to infection. I usually consult my GP, who will prescribe a steroidal cream.
568659 tn?1256143582 We had to use cortizone cream over the counter for my first dd. She had eczema patches as well. Also, do not bathe him every day, that drys out the skin. We never needed anything stronger than the cortizone, so no prescriptions. She is almost 4 and doesn't get it any more. It is also pretty common starting around this time of year. You should call and make sure to talk to his ped or nurse before using anything, even over the counter cortizone.
Avatar f tn is there something i can get over the counter until i can get to the doctor for this problem
Avatar f tn He said at this point, it has turned into an Eczema like rash. What does that mean? Does she have it or not? He told me to use the over the counter cream 3x a day and 1% hydrocortisone cream once a day. This regiman has truly helped. What causes Eczema and can I prevent future outbreaks of it? Thanks!
Avatar n tn My advice is to use nothing other than a bland over-the-counter moisturizer like Aquaphor ointment at bedtime, and a lighter one like Lubriderm during the day. You may find that occasional use of a mild steroid can help, at least for short periods. But if you're looking for a "cause" or a "cure," you're likely to be disappointed. Get yourself as comfortable as you can, and over time, if you're able to stop thinking about your lips, their sensitivity may well subside.
Avatar m tn I'm a dishydrotic eczema suffere here, too - I've had it for years, and my outbreaks normally occur once every couple of months, ranging from irritating but manageable to full-blown and maddening. Anyway, my own research has continued to indicate that fungal infections might be related to this condition. I've also suffered from athlete's foot and toenail fungus for years, and am curious about this group's experience. Do any of you suffer from any sort of fungal infection?
Avatar m tn Hello, You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. Mostly the hair loss due to seborrheic dermatitis is not permanent until and unless there is any damage to the hair follicle and hence the hair grow back.
443968 tn?1288616289 ) and that when I bathe him not to rub hard on the skin. We use an over the counter cortizone cream on the areas when they flare up and it works wonders! Also my dr said to try to use cotton clothing - not synthetics. We do that when we can. I hope this helps! Also - I use Dreft for washing or the UP and UP brand of Dreft by Target. I always have though, so that wasn't a change. Hope this helps and that it clears up soon.
Avatar f tn In the past, I have had breakouts and i found that SARNA Lotion is a life saver. It can be purchased over the counter at any drugstore or market. It is a lotion with a menthol feel to it. It is soothing and cooling and makes the itchies calm down quite a bit. It won't heal whatever you have but it certainly brings relief. The lotion itself isn't cheap but I swear by the results.
Avatar n tn I have eczema and usually try to get by on over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream. By using it everyday I forgot to stop when I found out I was prenant. I am now 12weeks pregnant, will it hurt my child????
Avatar n tn Keep your feet dry and apply zinc oxide based diaper rash ointment. Most cases of fungal infections respond to over-the-counter products, which contain any of several basic ingredients: miconazole, tolnaftate, terbinafine, ketaconazole and clotrimazole. You can consult a pharmacist and get any cream or lotion containing these ingredients. If the symptoms persist then please get it evaluated from a dermatologist.
Avatar m tn Hello. I had been using the over-the-counter version of epiceram, Triceram Cream, until it was no longer available. A pharmaceutical company bought Triceram and reworked it into Epiceram. I can tell you that Triceram (and now Epiceram) is the only cream I've used since battling excema on my knees and elbows. This cream takes about three weeks to actually build up your skin barrier and then if you keep it up (twice a day for me) you rarely have an excema flare.
Avatar n tn My eczema is stubborn - it is constantly reappearing, causing me to use the Elocon far too often than I should be, but because it is so effective, I use it over and over. Is there something I can buy over the counter that actually works? My eczema is the kind that cracks, blisters, weeps, is not just red and irritated skin! Please help! There must be something out there that I can use with no long term negative effects!!!
Avatar f tn I use Carmex healing cream for my eczema. It's works wonders. It's the only non prescription cream that works for me.
Avatar f tn I have also tried over the counter drops for swimmers ear, and they did next to nothing. The only relief I have ever had was with the steroid drops the doctor prescribed when it got infected, and that was wonderful, but whenever I go off the drops the itchiness comes back within a week or two. Does anyone with this condition have any ways of relieving the itchiness on a regular basis? Or is the doctor right that there is nothing I can do about it?
Avatar f tn I decided to start using calendula salve after reading rave reviews on it, and although it took about three times longer to clear up, it did a pretty good job of healing the skin. Only problem is, the moment I stop using it, the eczema returns. Will I have to take cimetidine the rest of my life to keep my warts away, or are there other options? My current dermatologist doesn't have any ideas, and neither do I.
Avatar n tn The best treatment for infantile eczema is the use of very mild cortisone products, such as that available over-the-counter (1%). I suspect that you are reluctant to use steroids, though you really needn't be--chance are you'd only have to use it once in a while, and the body wouldn't even notice the difference compared tot the steroids already circulating in the bloodstream. If not, mild moisturizers will help a little (the "dryness" is really inflammation, not dryness per se.
Avatar f tn Hi Mildly potent topical corticosteroids applied externally over the area is usually used for eczema of the genitalia. We are avoiding the more potent ones as they may cause some thinning of the skin and other side effects. I suggest that you discuss this with your gynecologist. Corticosteroids are the mainstay of therapy for eczematous diseases.
751422 tn?1265513635 These can often be purchased over the counter, though occasionally a higher dosage of an antifungal treatment needs to be prescribed. On rare occasions the condition is so severe that it needs to be treated with an oral antifungal medication. This is uncommon, and most people notice the discomfort of jock itch long before it reaches an advanced stage. If you are trying to get rid of jock itch and have never had it before, it is important to have it diagnosed by a medical professional.
Avatar n tn 2 yr old caucasian female with extensive body rash that has slowly, progressively worsened over the past year. Pediatrician diagnosed as eczema, and prescribed pediatric eczema cream. Cream had no effect, no over-the-counter creams have offered much relief. Rash began on trunk area, has spread to arms and legs. Neck, face, head area not affected. Red, splotchy, slightly raised, eventually covering entire trunk so the skin feels coarse, rough like sandpaper.
118074 tn?1228332603 I was born with eczema and its been a problem my whole 22. i can tell you that i dont have many facts about prescriptions, cortizone stuff, antibiotics, steroids, but what i do know is that i would have preferred that my mom hadnt tried these out on me when i was young. i dont blame her of course, but i do wish we had tried something a more natural without sideaffects. i think cortisone thins the skin which if thinned enough can make the skin worse and worse.
297475 tn?1192062274 If the eczema is especially severe, a doctor may prescribe prednisone or administer a shot of cortisone or triamcinolone If the eczema is mild, over-the-counter hydrocortisone can be purchased at the local drugstore. If complications include infections (often of Staphylococcus aureus), antibiotics may be employed. The immunosuppressant Tacrolimus or pimecrolimus can be used as a topical preparation in the treatment of severe atopic dermatitis instead of traditional steroid creams.
Avatar n tn It could be dyshidrotic eczema, which produces clear blisters on hands and feet. No cause, can be treated with cortisone creams. Try over-the-counter ones first, go for a prescription if they don't help. Not catchy. Best. Dr.
Avatar n tn 05%. Prior to that, I used everything under the sun and over the counter but until I used this cream, nothing worked. The cream is a miracle, the rash caused by the poison ivy was under control in a day of use and the speed by which this ointment worked is nothing like I've encountered. A true miracle in a tube.
Avatar n tn The rashes and redness gradually cleared from his face, but it remained in hi arms and his calf area in both legs, sometimes it appears in the upper chest. He is now 11, we have treated him with cotezones and other over the counter remedies but they don't seem to work. Sometimes he complains that there is pain in his muscles in the calf area and in the arms and in some ocassions his feet apparently are too hot. We have seen a few doctors, but most have dismissed it with passing with age.
Avatar n tn ) I find it hard to believe that the redness around your penile opening is now a yeast infection, even if it once was--the cream would have taken care of yeast, long since. Moreover, no matter how much what you perceive as swelling "continues to push my darkened lips together," it cannot be actually blocking the opening, since you obviously can urinate, or you wouldn't be around to write me your question. It must therefore be that your skin looks inflamed only.
Avatar f tn There's one called Mederma, and another called Bio-Oil. They're over-the-counter, so if you don't find them in the store, you'd probably be able to get them online. Perhaps cocoa butter will help too. I used that while I was pregnant to prevent stretch marks and it seemed to work. Also, if you have the money, perhaps you could consult a plastic surgeon to see if there's anything he/she can do to lessen the scarring.
