1907238 tn?1340711313 From what I have heard, from a friend that does not have any imbalance hormonally but does have trouble conceiving, met formin will cause you to ovulate. Met formin is the generic for glucophage, which is a diabetic medicine. Its primary use helps you digest sugars more efficiently and can assist in weight loss, but be careful it can also assist in weight gain. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet while you are on it, or else it might have reverse affects.
1002364 tn?1250107254 t think so, pcos is caused normally by insulin resistance which can be made worse by eating high sugar and high carbohydrate diets.

Avatar f tn I have experienced extreme weight gain with PCOS. Struggling with weight loss. Any suggestions? Very depressing!
Avatar m tn PCOS occurs in 1 in 3 women. That's a lot! It's so common now. Getting yourself right before trying to conceive it vital. Your body needs to be prepared to accommodate another body. Exercise & eating right will put you on the right path. Once you start on Chlomide, the average time until your body conceives is any where between 3-6 months. Not long at all.
Avatar f tn ve been off birth control for about 6 months, and I get a period each month and varys from 28-32 days depending on my ovulation of the month. Eating foods like wheat will help with pcos. I'm now on a 1780 calorie diet plan. Nothing fancy, my own thing just watching the foods I take in. It's working. I started my journey at 333lbs, and went to my lowest weight of 270. Went back to 295, and currently weigh 287. Try eating more fruits and veggies and more with whole graines.

Avatar f tn I am on metformin, but not birth control because we are TTC. I am exercising and eating right, plus taking a prenatal and extra folic acid. We have been trying for almost 6 months now. I am hoping that next month will be our month. Since I got my period 15 days after the ovulation test said I was ovulating do you think that I did indeed ovulate? I was thinking that I did and that actually gives me hope!
Avatar f tn I also have pcos and am taking metformin er 1000mg. It sounds like your doctor has you on the right track as far as BCP and your other meds. Can I ask why you dont take your BCP? I don't take any because I am trying to conceive, but I know that they do wonders for us pcos girls. As far as your other med is it metformin? I know for me, when I started my met I didn't get a period right away, in fact I still havent. They force start my periods with provera or prometrium.
Avatar n tn I blame also my unhealthy diet(I have some disturbances eating then not eating do a lot of sport then stopping and doing nothing which is I am working on). Anyhow, I started to drink plenty of tea in higher doses that is nettle and fennel and green tea they seem to help me a little. I want to know if drinking these teas would interfere with diane causing problems. These teas make me feel better and cleaner from inside. Thank you for your answer.
1473300 tn?1397588529 they thought i had pcos.... but i never had irregular periods so my doc said only one way to figure out if you're infertile..... wasn't in my game plan til i was 39, we tried and it took 3 months, natural......
Avatar n tn Is it true that you could make PCOS worse by eating too much sugar? I have a really sweet tooth and am always craving carbs. Thanks!
Avatar f tn As far as losing weight, I have pcos as well. I've been eating high protein meals and they're four smaller meals per day. It'll keep you fuller longer, will give you more energy, and help you lose weight. As far as conceiving, I don't have any answers for that. I hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I am exceptionally fit, eat right and take darned good care of myself. I have PCOS and I am unable to lose weight the regular way. Calories in and energy exerted do not work for me. I am by all means not obese, but have 30 pounds to lose, that I cannot budge. I have a dog training/walking business, and hike AT LEAST 15km a day (on steep and difficult terrain). I also do a hard construction job on days I am not working with dogs.
Avatar f tn Most of the people in thif forum have PCOS. If that is what the dr. said you have, you are on the right track. PCOS can cause irregular periods, weight gain, difficulty TTC, but with the provera - that will help get your regular, the metformin will help lose weight - but you have to change your diet too (means stop smoking & drinking if you want to get pregnant), and it helps with fertility, too. You are on the right track - so hang in there & do what your dr. says.
Avatar f tn I seem to be one of many with this problem, but most seem to be about a foot shorter than me... I'm a 6'4", 26-year-old male, and former athlete) and have been exercising 5-6 days a week, for about 90 minutes a workout. 2/3 of that is doing cardio, and about 1/3 is weight lifting, etc. I'm far more concerned with losing weight/fat than building any type of significant muscle mass.
520691 tn?1213961844 I was diagnosed just a month ago. There is a book called "Androgen disorders in Women." It was written by Theresa Cheung. Its all about PCOS and the different treatment options. It also explains your symptoms and helps you understand what is going on. I highly recommend it. I have heard that metformin really helps. But it is not standard of care or approved by the FDA yet. Although there are many doctors who are using it and it is effective.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago, and none of my nurses told me until I looked on the paper and saw for myself.... The stuff they tell you and the stuff you read is more than discouraging about Conceiving and losing weight and being normal. I'm close to giving up.
