I take Avodart (Dutasteride) 0.5 mg tabs twice a week for the past 6 months. I lowered the dose when I developed gynecomastia (breast tissue). Avodart has a long half life. Will it still work to help my benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)? I have been taking Avodart for 5 years and it has been very helpful.
Hello , i am 21 years old and to control hairfall i consulted a dermatologist and he prescribed ne a dose of 1 dutasteride tablet everyday for 20 days. I have completed 10 days of medication though it's helping in hair fall control many side effects too are coming out as:
-reduced sex drive
-testicle pain a little bit
-thin ejaculation
Will it be worth taking the tablets for another 10 days?
Hello,Im a male taking Avodart for hair loss but im worried,by what the information is regarding pregnancy.
My question is can i still try to conceive while im taking avodart.
How will this medication effect my sperm count and also will my sperm have this medicine in them.
Will it cause a birth defect if I should get my girlfriend pregnant.
Also if we try for a child how long will it take for the tablets to be out of my stysem

BACK IN DECEMBER WE INCREASED MY DOSAGE, AND MY HAIR HAS BEGUN TO FALL OUT AT AN ENORMOUS RATE. I NOTIFIED MY DOCTOR, SO WE SCHEDULED TO HAVE MY LEVELS CHECKED AGAIN. I AM WAITING FOR MY RESULTS, BUT MT DOCTOR HAS GONE OUT OF TOWN AND NOW I'M BEGINING TO GET REALLY WORRRIED BECAUSE MY HAIR IS STILL FALLING OUT, SO NOW I HAVE STOPPED TAKING MY MEDS FOR THE LAST 3 DAYS. I am hoping someone will have some answers for me. I am not sure what I should do about this thyroid hair loss I am having. I read that adding t3 helps with hair loss? I know you can not believe everything you read. Right? I did get my new tests back from the doctor today and now I am considered hyperthyroid instead of hypothyroid. I just can not seem to get the right dosage needed to fix me. Help.
I take 200mcg so Sythroid but I havent lost any hair..BUT...I did read and was told that it could happen. I was also told if you do lose some it usually tapers off after awhile.
It took me almost a year to find the correct dosage and 15 yrs later, still having dosage adjustments (just changed dosage again last week).
Take it easy after surgery and get plenty of rest and make sure you start eating healthy, you will gain some weight, but it will come off (at least it did for me), once your dosage is where it should be.

It would be very helpful if we could have a look at your thyroid related test results from the time you were feeling good, and also from the time when you dosage was reduced. You also need to know your test results from Aug. It is a good idea to always get a copy of blood test results and write on there how you were feeling at the time, and your med and supplement dosages. Those reports are a very useful history for future reference.
I would agree that the hair loss is not a side effect but inadequate levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3, along with likely low levels of ferritin, which is a form of iron.
It appears that your doctor tested for Free T4, but Total T3. Total T3 is not very useful compared to Free T3. Scientific studies have shown that hypo symptoms correlate best with Free T3, and not Free T4 or TSH.
When I was going through it I just wanted to hear someone say that it stopped for them. I can tell you that the hair loss finally stopped for me after at most 4 months. I even tried a shampoo called Nioxin, but I don' t think that had any effect at all. My only suggestion would be to get ferratin (which is iron stores) checked.

80mg is a high dosage of beta blocker, and the max recommended for atenolol in 100mg. Maybe you could ask your gp to try a more powerful reacting beta blocker, one which requires much less dosage with the same effect. Bisoprolol fumrate is a powerful beta blocker and most people take 1.25mg - 20mg.
You have to start on a low dose and gradually increase it over a few weeks until you find the right level. If you suddenly jump in at 20mg, your heart could start to pump too slowly.
Hi everyone. I'm scheduled for PT on 4-14-10 (nodule susp for pap) and have read lots of frightening stories about
hair loss due to thyroid conditions and some meds used to treat hypo patients. I am currently on 50mcg levothyroxine. I started it 1-20-10 and have so far had not had any extra shedding/thinning. My questions are - if I was going to have hair thinning as a side effect of the levo, would it have most likely already started? Or is it noticed more with higher doses?
Thank you for your comments they are very appreciated and will ask for another blood draw with Free T3 and ask to increase dosage as well. I feel good except that I am tired and my hair loss, perhaps due to my healthy lifestyle which I think plays a huge role...diet and exercise. That helps but correct med dosage is essential and will work with my Dr.

When I was first diagnosed the main symptom was hair loss and my regular doctor wouldn’t treat because I was on the low end of out dated range and my gyno said I should be midrange and treated starting with 1/4 grain and increasing as needed so I think I was only slightly hypo. She added t3 lunchtime dose a couple of years ago but I didn’t really noticed much.
Hair loss is a symptom of hypo. Also, hair loss is reactive, so hair loss today may reflect your thyroid hormone levels several months ago more than those of today. Furthermore, it can be one of the last symptoms to go away.
If either of you has recent labs to post, please do, and we'll tell you what we see. Include reference ranges as they vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Also, tell us about any other remaining hypo symptoms you might have.
Does anyone have any suggestions or something that has worked for hair loss. If I increase my Thyroid medication I experience heart palpitations and I am afraid that my TSH would be way to low. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Would it be possible that my low Iodine levels could be causing the hair loss, should I supplement with sea kelp?
If you read the very tiny print that comes with the side affects on Synthroid, it does say that it may cause some hair loss for a few weeks anyway.. I lost hair for several weeks last year. From June to October. I have very fine, very thin hair already...so totally not thrilled with this...once my levels got to a fairly normal place (within a couple of weeks of that) it seemed that it stopped. I don't know as I ever got any back though...I still seem to be very thin on top...
