Avatar f tn Some aspects of what you described such as extreme irrational anger could be from a psychiatric disability but only a psychiatrist could provide a diagnosis. The substance abuse issue is making things worse and should be addressed and would worsen any psychiatric disability. You should encourage him to seek help, the best way being from a distance such as a phone call and other family members and friends of his should be able to support you on this.
Avatar n tn Drug or alcohol abuse is common in persons with bipolar disorder and can mask the symptoms, thus complicating diagnosis and treatment. Recognizing and treating any drug abuse is a priority, since it is a strong predictor of suicide, especially in men. Before treatment begins, the patient receives a careful physical exam, and blood and urine are tested to detect conditions that could put medical constraints on the choice of treatment.

Avatar f tn you need nutrients that were taken out of your system by this drug! If you are prone to depression, anxiety or any other mental illness, I would suggest that you keep your experimentation to a minimum, and always make sure someone in your group is not on any drug at all to assist if there are any complications. If you continue to feel out of sorts, go to your gp, and tell them the truth of the matter and you will get it all sorted.

Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! With 15% heart function she may mean an ejection fraction of 15%. With this she can function ok at rest. However her history of drug abuse, Hepatitis C etc may disqualify her for surgery. She may be a candidate for pacemakers or defibrillators but only her cardiologist can tell that for sure. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
976897 tn?1379167602 It has been estimated that around 20% of the public have Mental Illness, 16% have Heart disease and 16% cancer. They have at last seen the link and believe that taking Mental Illness seriously and treating professionally will severely decrease such illnesses as Heart disease and Cancer. Personally I think they are three decades too late in realising this, but at least they have now woken up.

Avatar f tn I guess what I want to know is, what are some things I can do to help with his illness and if my baby could possibly develop mental illness for the simple fact that the father has mental illness. Avatar f tn Another issue become dealing with the psychiatric community if you have a know history of substance abuse. You may get a dual-diagnosis between addiction and mental illness, but docs have a harder time treating people who have used any sort of illicit drugs. Many won't treat you aggressively because their afraid that you'll abuse some of the medications that they prescribe. I have a friend who has been laid up for over a year with BP disorder and has been pretty beat up.

Avatar f tn For those without a known cause (drug abuse, medication, etc.), what are the causes and theories out there for the cause of this? Also, what kinds of help treat this condition and keep it from coming back? Thank you.
Avatar f tn m truly and extremely happy, the depression, mania, and hallucinations all go away and I act like a normal human being but as soon as it wears off I am probably the most hateful SOB on the face of the world and my girlfriend suffers the most because it seems to be always directed to her. I take one 15mg a daily and never exceed it due to the fact of addiction is so easy with this type of meds.
Avatar n tn The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.
933174 tn?1375792553 I see a Psychaitrist and a Therapist for mental illness, but they are not well informed about addiction and withdrawl. On the other hand, the detox center was not able to address my mental issues. You will have to be very pro-active in your recovery to find what works for you. It can be done. Hope things work out for you. Keep posting, there's fantastic support here.
Avatar n tn Namaste Tammie, Drug addiction (dependence) is compulsively using a substance, despite its negative and sometimes dangerous effects. Drug abuse is using a drug excessively, or for purposes for which it was not medically intended. A physical dependence on a substance (needing the drug to function) is not always part of the definition of addiction. Some drugs (for example, some blood pressure medications) don't cause addiction but do cause physical dependence.

675718 tn?1530033033 I recently retired because of this illness and other serious mental disorders. My anxiety is through the roof, followed by sleep apnea and losing time. I am on medication, but again suffer from obesity. We can go to the moon, but eradicating some of these put upon emotional illnesses is far from solvable. I hope we can get help. It's difficult to read a book or walk around and even talk to others when you suddenly flash back to the awful abuse you suffered.

Avatar f tn I have depression, PTSD and severe anxiety. In the past - eating disorder and OCD. Currently, I am 22 F and I quit my medication about 2 months ago, because I have been on it a year or more and it made me tired and not quite myself. I originally switched from prozac because oddly I had hallucinations and I mean visual and hearing. It was so frightening for me I might never forget it.
Avatar n tn She took him on a tour of the fire department (pre arranged) and a few of the firefighters talked to him and were rather, well, hard on him. Not over the top, but enough to scare him. He never did it again. Point is, there could be a lot of reasons this happened. It may be a sign of a bigger issue, or just plain old kids being kids not understanding the potential consequences of their actions.
472139 tn?1211332563 My heart goes out to all the people who have to struggle with mental illness and drug addiction throgh no fault of their own but because of their genetic profile.
