Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline for gonorrhea treatment

Avatar m tn This is a true statement but the net effect of this increasing problem is that ceftriaxone is increasingly the preferred drug for gonorrhea treatment. When given with doxycycline (given because of the possibility of co-infection with chlamydia), the combination of drugs you took is close to 100% effective.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with NGU and was prescribed doxycycline 100mg bid for 7 days. My physician said to abstain from sex until all the medication was gone. That is exactly what I did. I ended up having sex 4 to 5 hours after I took my last dose of doxycycline on day 7. Did I put my partner at risk by having sex so soon after treatment? Also, I took 13 out of the 14 pills. (I choked one of the pills back up and spit it out). Would that have an impact on the meds efficacy?
Avatar m tn My stream/flow is fine, but the pressure is always there. The Dr. put me on Doxycycline now twice a day for 10 days. What could this be at this point? I'm on day two of the Doxycycline and I'm miserable. Haven't had any sexual contact since initial incident. Please help.
Avatar m tn Yes it would for certain STD's, wiating 3 weeks would be recommended.
Avatar m tn In theory the doxycycline could inhibit but not cure gonorrhea. If you feel you must test for gonorrhea (I would not feel the need) I suggest you wait until you have been off the doxy for at least 4-5 days.
Avatar f tn I was treated with ceftriaxone and Doxycycline but my wife was only treated with 100mg of Doxycycline twice a day for 7 days. She was not diagnosed. Is it possible that Doxycycline will cure Gonorrhea on its own. She felt some burning in her urethra but only after treatment. Her Dr. thought it may be just a yeast infection from strong antibiotics. What are the chances her complete uranylisis will show that she is negative for Gonorrhea?
Avatar n tn Both would have been treated with a high degree of reliability with the therapy you received as the cefixime (Suprax) is the recommended therapy for gonorrhea and doxycycline is recommended therapy for NGU. Both are so effective that it is not necessary to have a follow-up, "test-of-cure" test. The symptoms typically begin to improve very soon after starting therapy (24 hours) but may not completely resolve for 5-7 days in some cases.
Avatar n tn Handsfield, Just to update you, as you know i was diagnosed with Nonchlamydial NGU and was prescribed with Azithromycin (single dose) and then Doxycycline (one week) after the azithromycin failed. Well, my treatment is now over for the Doxycycline and i still have symptoms of NGU which include scant perfectly clear discharge and perhaps a slight discomfort when urinating.
Avatar m tn My doctor did a culture of my throat and penis to determine if I have chlamydia or gonorrhea. But he decided to go ahead and treat me for the above STDs. I was given a shot of an antibiotic yesterday and put on a regiment of doxycycline. How long will it before I start to feel better. I have had relief with the feeling of swollen testicles but my throat doesnt seem to be any better at all. I'm concerned for some reason that this isnt going to respond to treatment.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am under treatment for Gonorrhea & Chlamydia as i didnt go for a test but had a colorless and sometimes white & light yellow discharge from tip of my penis with a burning sensation & frequent urination. Doctor gave me doxycycline 100mg for 10days. I am on my 4th day. Since yesterday discharge has increased and its not stopping. Is this normal or is this how it gets healed. I am worried if the medication isnt working or this is how you get healed from gonorrhea or chlamydia.
Avatar m tn 2 weeks ago, I was given one dose of 1g azithromycin that helped (pain when urinating gone). Last week, since they also found chlamydia in my anus, I was again prescribed doxycycline (2x100g) for 7 days. However, the clinic made a mistake and only gave me 12 (instead of 14) 100g tablets that make my treatment will only lasts 6 days. The thing is I really can't pick up the extra tablets as the clinic is out of town and I am working full time and going abroad in 2 days.
Avatar n tn Your treatment, while likely to have cured you, may have also transformed it from a symptomatic infection to an asymptomatic one. Recommended treatment for gonorrhea in the U.S. is now ceftriaxone, at least 125 mg given as a shot, followed by either a single 1.0 gram dose of azithromycin or, alternatively, doxycycline, 100 mg taken twice daily for 7 days. Finally, anyone you have had sex with in the past 30 days should be evaluated and treated. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn The recommended thing is to wait 5 days to test for gonorrhea and chlymida...if positive then treatment is given from there.
Avatar m tn PLENTY, and he gave me doxycycline for 14days. after 14 days i repeated gramstain and the result is coccobacilli(-): MODERATE. The question is what should i do now? i still have abdominal pain and greenish vaginal discharge sometimes.
Avatar m tn Suspecting it as gonorrhea (thru reading the net), I self medicated with doxycycline 100mg taken twice for 7 days. The discharge was gone after 4 days (continued the medication till the 7th day). I never had sex with anybody during these period. Aug. 31, 2012 I had protected sex with my girlfriend and after 6 days, discharge from my organ showed up again. So I finally decided to go to a doctor to have it checked.
Avatar m tn then next day I went to different doctor and told him white discharge, the doctor told it might be gonorrhea (as not tested the blood) and injected gonorrhea penicillin (I didnt ask the name of injection as he told usually this injection for gonorrhea treatment), and the doctor asked to continue the same medicine of doxycycline pills and pot citra 6 days (as I started the medicine yesterday), the doctor advised after 6 day the gonorreah will be cured and advised me to take blood test after 3 m
Avatar m tn About six months ago, I was diagnosed with Gonorrhea after noticing discharge and painful urination. Turns out, my girlfriend had an oral infection, and she transmitted Gonorrhea to me through oral sex. We were both treated. She was given Rocephin and Azithromyocin, and I was given Rocephin and Doxycycline. I wasn't given Rocephin until after my bacterial culture revealed it Gonorrhea and not Chlamydia, but Doxycyline cleared my symptoms within 4 hours.
Avatar f tn A couple of days back, after having unprotected sex, I started having burning sensations while urinating, and also thick yellowish discharge from my penis. I commenced a 7 day treatment with Cipro and Doxycycline. I completed the treatment about 3 days ago, but I still have discharge(though less thick and not as plentiful), and a slight discomfort when I urinate and when I get an erection. How long does it take for the symptoms to disappear, and did I take the wrong medication?
