clarithromycin is in a different family of antibiotics than penicillin, so there is a chance that you have a strain of Strep resistant to pen but susceptible to clarithromycin. Since your doctor is the one that examined you and has your full history, I would continue with that until you follow up, if that was the suggestion. Ibuprofen/acetaminophen and lots of fluids will give some symptomatic relief too.
ve heard Prevpac (which is a combination of 2 antibiotics amoxicillin and clarithromycin + an antiacid medicine) has some nasty side effects...Has anyone been on it? If so, what was your experience like? She is apprehensive about taking antibiotics, but her doctor wants her to heal the ulcer (which is sizable).

You are right that the data on use of azithromycin for syphilis prevention is worrisome however penicillin (or amoxicillin) is highly active and if you had been exposure to syphilis 5 days of amoxicillin would have cured it.
Please do not th8ink that I am trying to "point a finger". I just wanted to let you know that I have taken the time to research but am still vague on the issue. Would 1.5g of azithromycin taken in a single dose cure syphillis?
13th august - The tonsillitis returned and I was given clarithromycin! However I was in an extreme amount of pain and visited EDT. I was told I didn't have quinsy and I was sent home. I continued to take the
clarithromycin and tramadol for the pain.
23rd August The tonsillitis returned again and by the 26th August the pain was so extreme I couldn't open my mouth, move my head, talk, eat or drink.
I have just competed a course of clarithromycin, and continue to have nausea, salivation, and a gnawing feeling in my stomach. These symptoms are very similar to those I had while pregnant, ie morning sickness, but all day.
I finished the drug 3 days ago.
Will these symptoms ever stop?

In the off chance you in fact had a urethral infection, clarithromycin in the dose you took would have cured it. That includes gonorrhea, chlamydia, or the (largely unknown) bacteria that cause nongonococcal urethritis (NGU).
There certainly has been no medical reason to avoid sex with your wife all this time. Had I been in your situation, knowing what I know, I would have continued unprotected sex with my wife. At this point you certainly have no worries about it.

After failing to fight off the cough myself I saw my local doctor 6 weeks ago, who prescribed Vibramycin-D (doxycycline) (1 weeks worth) because I’m allergic to penicillin. This has cleared up my infection the last two times I have taken it but this time I was still left with a persistent cough. The cough came on from my feeling that there’s water in my throat so I cough to bring it up (very little if no phlegm).
I've been sick since Novemeber, so it's been about 4 months now, but it didn't get bad until about Jan. My symptoms started out as a simple cold, coughing sneezing mild fever and a sore throat. At first I was given amoxocillin to treat what they assumed was strep (a throat swab was never done), after the meds I felt better but a week later felt worse then ever. I then was given more antibiotics because they then assumed it was a sinus infection and I needed strong antibiotics.
I contacted female A and urged her to get tested as well. She claims to have had no other sexual intercourse, at least in the past several years. Still, she went to be tested. Penicillin helped me with testicle and extreme urethra irritation in the beginning but does not now. My doctor said I have a mushy prostate and probably prostatitis because my flow has slowed down considerably and the prostate aches once and a while before bowel movements.
