clarithromycin is in a different family of antibiotics than penicillin, so there is a chance that you have a strain of Strep resistant to pen but susceptible to clarithromycin. Since your doctor is the one that examined you and has your full history, I would continue with that until you follow up, if that was the suggestion. Ibuprofen/acetaminophen and lots of fluids will give some symptomatic relief too.
Other options include cephalosporins such as cefpodoxime proxetil (Vantin) and cefuroxime (Ceftin). In patients allergic to beta-lactams, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), clarithromycin (Biaxin), and azithromycin. prescribed the triple therapy which consists of Lanzoprazole 30 mg, Amoxicillin 500 mg and clarithromycin 500 mg. The problem is that she told me to take only one pill of amoxicillin (500mg) every 12 hours but it was supposed to be two pills (1g) according to FDA and other resources. I am very concerned because I know that this bacteria becomes resistant to antibiotics. What should I do?, How long do I wait before I take another test to see if the bacteria is gone or not?
I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems.

I have just competed a course of clarithromycin, and continue to have nausea, salivation, and a gnawing feeling in my stomach. These symptoms are very similar to those I had while pregnant, ie morning sickness, but all day.
I finished the drug 3 days ago.
Will these symptoms ever stop?
I've just got back from my doctor, I have an infected ingrown hair and need antibiotics. I can't take penicillin as I'm allergic, so he was trying to find an alternative. He has prescribed clarithromycin 500mg twice a day. He told me they are only harmful in the first trimester but NHS says that they should only be used as a last resort if there is no other medicine and the pros outweigh the cons. After failing to fight off the cough myself I saw my local doctor 6 weeks ago, who prescribed Vibramycin-D (doxycycline) (1 weeks worth) because I’m allergic to penicillin. Sure, there are lots of antibiotics. If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin. If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain. It's not typical, but it does happen.

Iam having a terrible toothache the dentist said it is my wisdom tooth growing below my other tooth.She prescribed penicillin due to infections and I have a fever. I am scared to take it thinking that it may affect my babies. I read the CDC guideline to treat NS is 4 x daily IV penicillin for 10-14 days OR intramuscular penicillin 2.4 (penicillin shots) AND 4x Probenecid 500mg everyday for 10-14 days. Consistently, I have found a thread of a person here undergoing the above mentioned outpatient treatment for his NS (surprisingly his titer was also 1:64 to begin with!) but that person was the only one I could find online.

I got infected about 3 weeks ago with Gonorrhea of the throat i had a mild sore throat and just thought it was tonsillitis since i suffer from it a lot i just went to a STD clinic and told me i have Gonorrhea in the throat and since i am extremely allergic to penicillin they gave me 2 gm of Azithromycin to take in a single dose which i did today. Now, since yesterday i have been experiencing some joint discomfort and sever non-stop tingling all over my body.
My question is could this be DGI?
As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Niacin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin.
