A week ago I started getting a sore throat.I went to my doc on Monday and by then my tonsils were pretty swollen and had white lumps on them. I've had a few strep throats during my life so I figured that was it. My glands were fairly swollen too. Anyway she prescribed me Calvepen, which she said is pure penicillin. On Tuesday, I went to my own Doc (a different one) who prescribed me clavamel (apparently it's penicillin based).

prescribed the triple therapy which consists of Lanzoprazole 30 mg, Amoxicillin 500 mg and clarithromycin 500 mg. The problem is that she told me to take only one pill of amoxicillin (500mg) every 12 hours but it was supposed to be two pills (1g) according to FDA and other resources. I am very concerned because I know that this bacteria becomes resistant to antibiotics. What should I do?, How long do I wait before I take another test to see if the bacteria is gone or not?
According to U.S.D.A. apparently yes, there are traces of antibiotics in the flesh and eggs from poultry. Their studies show no observable effect ( no acute effect for allergies and no chronic effects for cancer and other diseases)
I personally do not accept industry or gov't studies at face value.

You probably should be talking to your sons doctor or pharmacist and ask if it is ok that he takes the prevacid when he has an allergy to penicillin. A lot can also depend on the type of reaction he gets from the penicillin as well. So my advice would be just to call up your pharmacist or doctor and ask. It never hurts to be safe rather then sorry. Hope that helps!
However penicillin allergy itself is very dangerous. Even if it causes mild reaction at the first dose, subsequent doses’ cumulative anaphylaxis is itself life threatening. Today there are many alternatives to penicillin.

Clarithromycin is an antibiotic and taken by people who are allergic to penicillin.
You do not say why you were prescribed with this antibiotic and what symptoms you had before you started to take this medication.
If your symptoms that you had before the antibiotic have not changed since you finished the medication, then it is likely that the antibiotic did not work. So you will need to go back to your doctor to find out if you do require another course of antibiotics.
I've just got back from my doctor, I have an infected ingrown hair and need antibiotics. I can't take penicillin as I'm allergic, so he was trying to find an alternative. He has prescribed clarithromycin 500mg twice a day. He told me they are only harmful in the first trimester but NHS says that they should only be used as a last resort if there is no other medicine and the pros outweigh the cons. Anyone had this medicine and gone on to have a healthy baby? Thanks in advance.

I took one dose of clarithromycin in a PrevPac yesterday (first day) and I started having chest pains last evening, anxiety (suicidal thoughts), weakness, couldn't think, etc..I'm stopping immediately. Just continuing with the Amoxicillin.

Actually, I would avoid any product that has mold on it, mold, as you know, it a precursor to penicillin, and to be on the safe side, I would just avoid it. The doctor writes a script for the lab to do some blood draws, and then they test the blood for certain allergens, I believe it is called the RAST test, I had one, I could not believe all I was allergic too. It is quite evident that you are allergic to penicillin mold like penicillin notatum and chrysogenum spp. Such allergy in patients ranges from mild rash to severe reactions and depends on the body's magnitude of sensitization to such molds.

First, I arrived at my appt. for 1:30, I had to wait about 20 mins. then when I get in, I had to wait again and fill out a ton of paperwork on what kind of allergies I had, I was only there to get a stinking allergy test done to see if I was allergic to penicillin, not for all the other bologna that I was questioned about.

I had an acute allergic reaction on Jan. 2, 2008 to Penicillin, my hands swelled and were burning . I was hospitalized and given intervenous steroids. I continued on the sterdoids by mouth along with Zyrtec and Benedril. The test for gonorrhea and chlamydia was meaningless because you had received clarithromycin plus the penicillin or amoxicillin. If you had been infected, the antibiotics would have cured it.

I would venture a guess that it was not the terciseptic that was causing the rash but an allergic reaction to penicillin. How is this possible when he doesn't say he took this drug? It is possible because this drug is in commercial meat and dairy products.
