Make sure you take the vitamin with iron. You need the rest but you really need iron during pregnancy. Not taking the proper suppliments can lead to birth defects.

My first pregnancy I was prescribed PrimaCare One. This pregnancy they have a new PrimaCare One with DHA & EPA, plus added stool softener. Your OBs office will give you tons of samples if you ask, otherwise your insurance (depending what kind you have) should pick up the bulk of the cost. I know a lot of women buy over the counter brands, but the ones prescribed by your OBs office are much better and contain the maximum nutrients you and your baby need.

Any vitamin listed a prenatal that has iron, calcium and DHA is good. That's what my on told me.

I would take a complete prenatal. In addition to folic acid, they have higher daily values of all the vitamins you need for a healthy pregnancy than regular multivitamins.

re covered. Prescription and OTC prenatal vitamins are very comparable in vitamin/nutrient dosage, just be sure your folic acid is 1mg. I am on a prescription prenatal called PreNexa. It contains DHA and a stool softener. Most OTC prenatals do not contain these additives, you would have to purchase seperately. You can call an OB office to consult a prenatal nurse to see what prenatal vitamins they recommend, or ask your local pharmacist.

And don't worry hun you are not late in taking vitamins. You will be fine.

I take both, a prenatal vitamin and a dha supplement. I have been since I was 4 weeks (when I found out), and now I'm 27 1/2 weeks. I always take them with food though.

Prenatal vits don't have DHA in them. So you do need to take the extra vit. It's very beneficial for you & baby. I've taken the extra DHA vit during all of my pregnancies. I also take a calcium vit before bed, the extra calcium is good for U and baby. I don't think my dr said anything to me either but I told him when at my 1st apt he wanted to know everything I was taking, vits & if any other medications.

And taking two Flintstones to get all the folic acid you need just about doubles the iron you need so say hello to constipation. :-( been there done that last pregnancy.

I think they all contain the same stuff except some have more of something you may need. Such as iron, a still softener, calcium. If you know your body real well you can know what youll need more of. And my morning sickness lasted three weeks and every prenatal vitamin i took made me sick, to this day I still will throw up a little bit sometimes when I take one but it depends.

Ask your OB, if in the US, about schnucks free prenatals program. With a doctors prescription you can get a years worth of free prenatals.

I found that my vitamin makes me sick too.

I do take a separate dha that is vegan friendly

d suggest asking the Pharmacy if they have a generic of that one you can use, or call your dr and tell them you need a different prescription because you insurance isn't covering enough of it.

DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..

U need to chk CUZ u need iron n calcium dha also. I take cvs brand prenatal plus dha it has everything.

Does my doctor have to proscribe them to me ?

Well my prenatal vitamins have the dha in it as well.It is ssuppose to help with the brain development. If u can't call the doc can u call the pharmacy? They know enough about the meds that they should be able 2 answer why it was filled that way & side effects.

Centrium prenatal- has the multi and dha. And nature valley with dha. Definitely get something with dha so important baby's brain development!
