1013028 tn?1250923267 Aggrenox (aspirin/extended-release dipyridamole) is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients who have had transient ischemia of the brain or completed ischemic stroke due to thrombosis. Though the drugs of choice for a lupus anticoagulant are heparin and warfarin (coumadin), Plavix may be administered additionally to prevent arterial thrombotic episodes. Aggrenox has the same action as Coumadin.

My mother recently had a major stroke and my family has just started the book. We've already come across many passages that describe emotions and reactions our mom is having to a tee. Her doctor says that it is migraines and the two are not related. It seems like too much of a coincidence to me. Can a stroke cause persistent headaches and what is the treatment????
Avatar f tn Strokes can cause many clinical findings including weakness, numbness, changes in cognition, etc, depending on the location of the stroke. An MRI of the brain is a very useful modality to identify strokes. If indeed there was a structural lesion (i.e., stroke), it should be seen on the MRI. However, MRIs are only so specific and sensitive for detecting strokes. I agree your son should continue following up with the neurologist. Neuroimaging would be useful.
Avatar n tn Reason of stroke was blood clotting in brain. He is able to hear and understand everything; he remembers everything but can’t write anything, he is able to read a little as well. I just wanted to know if this pain is normal or is there anything I should be worried about.

Avatar n tn This herb may be contraindicated in individuals with active bleeding (eg, peptic ulcer, intracranial bleeding). Use with caution in individuals with a history of bleeding, hemostatic disorders, or drug-related hemostatic problems. It should not be used if you are taking anticoagulant medications, including warfarin, aspirin, aspirin-containing products, NSAIDs, or antiplatelet agents (eg, ticlopidine, clopidogrel, dipyridamole). I am not sure of what other potential drug interactions.
Avatar m tn I knew the words I wanted to say clearly in my mind but when i spoke they came out all wrong. I tried to calm down, and took a valium, but couldn't recognise item names properly - wife asked if I wanted avocado on my sandwich and I didn't know what it was. She showed me one and I didn't know what it was called. I tried to type a word on the keyboard in reply to the email but couldn't work out what the letters were. Just sat and stared and they meant nothing to me.
Avatar m tn I am a 73-year-old female, generally in very good health with low risk factors for stroke or heart disease. Past hypertension and hyperlipidemia have been well-controlled with medication for more than ten years. In April 2011 my total cholesterol was 147; LDL 84; TG 85; HDL 46. Last week I suffered a cryptogenic stroke of the left temporal cortex that presented with garbled speech and difficulty drinking from a cup. (Both symptoms have since resolved completely.
1346447 tn?1327862572 Wherever your stroke occurred in your brain, that spot is dead and will not come back. However your brain will not give up and it re-wires around the dead spot - it wants to be normal too. Please do not try to get your "old person" back because it is gone. But your new you will be better. I could not read or write after my stroke but I can now. I did not speak well at all after my stroke but I do better now.

Avatar f tn I found her some hours after the stroke--not sure how many, and she was treated in a stroke unit but is now in an ordinary nursing home with rehab services. Bleeding had stopped on its own by the morning after the stroke, so no attempt to drain off excess blook from the brain was made.
Avatar f tn What is the current status of your loved one? Is recovery expected in terms of awareness? Post stroke depression and inability to handle emotions is something that care providers want to know about and look for. I would consult with her provider post stroke. Let us know how she is doing.
